Just had very strange call from the midwife

Demanding to know why I'd missed lots of ante natal appointments and my 20 week scan and saying she was coming to see me tomorrow morning. After a slightly stunned silence I said I thought maybe she'd got the wrong person as I wasn't pregnant. According to her records, I'm 21 weeks pregnant. She's really concerned as I'm classed as high risk (true)

She had the right person - right date of birth, address, name and she was the same lovely midwife I had when I was pregnant with DS and DD. I remember her well she's a lovely woman.

She was absolutely mystified by my insistence that I am not so far as I know 25 weeks pregnant... but not quite so mystified as me by the news that I am.

DD is 16 and DS is very nearly 10 - I'm not planning another Grin

Sorry- just re-read that you are.

Sapphirejane · 25/07/2022 21:57

@hashbrownsandwich were they related?!

Nope!

Ooo that is weird!

areallthenameused · 25/07/2022 22:08

If you'd missed a scan then she must have seen "you" to book that scan in. She's going to realise it's not the same person the second she gets to your door surely?

AllyCatTown · 25/07/2022 22:09

Here for update. It is really bizarre.

Penguintears · 25/07/2022 22:10

Clearly some kind of admin error but would still freak me out!

Decidualcast · 25/07/2022 22:12

Cannot wait for the update!

Ontomatopea · 25/07/2022 22:12

Weird

Which makes it all the stranger, since she's seen me through 2 pregnancies before and we got to know each other quite well as I'm an "interesting case". I suppose it's possible that someone else did the booking in. She'd have known immediately I wasn't me IYSWIM. We have occasionally bumped into each other in the street over time and stopped for a quick chat.

So "you" must have been to the booking appointment and 12 week scan but have just missed the 20 week scan

How very odd! Interesting to see what the midwife says tomorrow.

If you've put on weight like you say, wear a crop top and shorts to show that it's not a bump 😁

ChickenBurgers · 25/07/2022 22:14

Have you been for a blood test in the last few months? If so any chance that’s come back as pregnant and the GP’s referred on but not forgotten to contact you…? It’d be pretty weird but not out of the realm of possibilities….

Sapphirejane · 25/07/2022 22:17

@areallthenameused - I didn’t see the same midwife twice my whole pregnancy sadly.

QuestionableMouse · 25/07/2022 22:17

I'd pee on a stick, just in case 🤣

Hope you get the to the bottom of this!

Doormatnomore · 25/07/2022 22:17

My dad once had the gp turn up at the door absolutely frantic because they had found a heart to transplant and hadn’t been able to get him on the phone because he was at work at it was pre mobiles. Took longer than it should to convince him that he didn’t need a heart transplant. He has the most common name in the country so it wasn’t impossible to believe. Poor chap who needed a heart had moved temporarily to the city to be closer to the hospital.

JennyForeigner · 25/07/2022 22:21

Something similar to this happened to me - turns out there is someone nearby with exactly the same name. The midwife had remembered me as having a difficult first pregnancy and jumped straight in to my records.

In my case I was still making my family and went on to have twins a year or so later under her care but I think that bit was optional 😄

WeeHaggisFace · 25/07/2022 22:22

How strange, I want to know what she says tomorrow 😁

CiderWithLizzie · 25/07/2022 22:22

Weird!

listsandbudgets · 25/07/2022 22:23

It's just occurred to me that I had to have twice weekly blood tests and scans from 30 weeks onwards until I was induced at 38 weeks. If someone has actually pretended to me they've really landed themselves in it for a lot of time sitting about the hospital and having needles stuck in them...

Wonder if I'll be able to apply for the maternity leave and child benefit... thinking ahead here

Someone taken your identity to get treatment maybe? She might not have tied the name to you?

I don’t know how hard it is to mess up records these days? Anyone know?

I would have thought pretty hard as it’s all digital now. I once had someone else’s smear test records filed in my paper folder. I had a very bemused conversation at a smear test about a cervical cancer I’d never had. I hope to god that woman got her treatment, I dread to think how long her record had been sitting in my folder.

Oinkypig · 25/07/2022 22:24

It will be a totally random admin error, one recently in my work, we were imagining secret twins, kidnapped children, hidden birth…… it was literally slightly different details. Did give me some ammunition to reiterate that all the policies and checks are there for a reason and skipping them has consequences …..

ThreeRingCircus · 25/07/2022 22:24

I think it's a massive coincidence that you were pregnant 10 years ago (was it high risk?) and can certainly imagine it's an error with 2022 and 2012 being mixed up.

That said I'd be concerned in case someone was using my identity to obtain NHS treatment (although sounds unlikely if they're AWOL!)

MummyofTw0 · 25/07/2022 22:25

Lol can't wait till she turns up on your doorstep lol

mrsfoof · 25/07/2022 22:28

I once had a phone call from 'the unit' to say they had a place for me and patient transport would be coming to collect me that afternoon. Although they didn't elaborate, I think 'the unit' was a mental health facility. They confirmed my name and DOB on the phone and obviously had the correct phone number (landline, it was a bit before people used mobiles as routine but I was ex-directory). I had no idea why they were calling me as I'd never had a mental health issue and certainly wasn't expecting to be scooped up and made an inpatient somewhere. I tried to convince them on the phone that they'd made a mistake but given the nature of the reason for admission, I felt it unlikely they would believe me so I hurriedly decamped to my parents for the weekend before they came to take me away. I never heard from the service again. It was very strange.

BlewsClews · 25/07/2022 22:33

Ooooh can I tag along for the update Grin
