Just had very strange call from the midwife

Demanding to know why I'd missed lots of ante natal appointments and my 20 week scan and saying she was coming to see me tomorrow morning. After a slightly stunned silence I said I thought maybe she'd got the wrong person as I wasn't pregnant. According to her records, I'm 21 weeks pregnant. She's really concerned as I'm classed as high risk (true)

She had the right person - right date of birth, address, name and she was the same lovely midwife I had when I was pregnant with DS and DD. I remember her well she's a lovely woman.

She was absolutely mystified by my insistence that I am not so far as I know 25 weeks pregnant... but not quite so mystified as me by the news that I am.

DD is 16 and DS is very nearly 10 - I'm not planning another Grin

not the NHS but years and years ago we had a problem with the TV licencing folk when we bought our first house. Out of the blue a bloke turned up at the door asking to see the TV licence. He had all the proper Id and everything and we'd only just moved in so I went and got the licence and showed it to him. He apologised and agreed it was probably to do with being new to the address and that was that....except that the following year he turned up again. This time he gravely inspected the renewed licence, apologised again and asked if I had received "the letters" I said nope hadn't received a thing. he said he would look into it and that was that until six months later he appeared again...again looked at the licence and apologised and asked whether my husband still worked for the Prisons Service. I said not only did he not, he never ever had. Poor man looked even more puzzled as he said that the TV licensing records said that the house was owned by HM Prisons so he assumed it was housing for employees. We never did get to the bottom of it and, apart from his visits, never had any communication with the licensing folk. He never behaves suspiciously, never asked to enter the house and used to turn up in a TV licensing liveried van....one of life's mysteries.

Before I pop off to bed

  • No GP Appointments
  • No blood tests
  • Now worrying someone is pretending to be me and stealing benefits and registering cars and all sorts of horrific things in my name
  • I'm more likely to give birth to a naughty boy than the Messiah
  • I hope the midwife does not make prophecies or similar
  • I've checked we've still got the Moses basket stashed away in eves so one less thing to worry about.
Anyway off to bed - a pregnant 40 something needs her sleep you know.

Shamelessly marking my place so I find out later if you’re pregnant or not @listsandbudgets 😂
Have you thought of any names yet? 😂

Tiani4 · 26/07/2022 05:01

Oh my Lord! How bizarre

Shamelessly place marking so I can read update after midwife visit tomorrow

WellThisIsShit · 26/07/2022 05:17

Well how bizarre! Hope you get to the bottom of it, so irritating when this kind of thing remains as one of life’s mysteries…

Have you heard of 'watch this thread'
I wonder?

Watch this thread is rubbish and I don't use it
see what I did there 😁

This is all very odd. Desperate to know the outcome.

MissMarpleRocks · 26/07/2022 06:02

One of my dcs has the same name as their cousin. We live on the same road so often have GP & dental mix ups. Dc went to dentist last week for regular check & was told was having root canal. They weren’t.

Could be someone with a similar name.

I no we are all giggling and I don't want to be called a mood Hoover.but if want to no how this occurred.ita healthcare there has got a be a paperchain.or how and who booked this.and why and who wrote the records of your dates.
Because if they can make this much of a fluff what else are they getting wrong.
if a mother was at risk they essentially just possibly let a mother get fucking Ill or die if they've left her missing apts for this long!
And who are they missing?mistaking?

ReformedWaywardTeen · 26/07/2022 06:16

OP, is this in Berkshire?

A few weeks back, I was in my garden and the phone rang. Because of the time of day I thought it might be DCs school but it was the GP

I answered and was asked am I my name and asked for my date of birth. I asked what was wrong as I've not had a GP appointment since before Covid.

I was asked why I had failed to attend clinic for my antenatal care and that they were "very concerned" as I'm now at least 35 weeks.

I nearly dropped the phone. I said I had not a clue what she was talking about.

She then gets even more forceful about how this would be "flagged to the relevant authorities" and they have "serious concerns" as I'm "not engaging" with them.

I said, hold up, are you not listening? I'm not engaging as I'm not bloody up duffed.

She then said she would have to refer me to the MW team to "talk sense into me" and she ended the call

I rang DH and he immediately thought maybe they rang the wrong person but I said they asked for me by name!

I called back later and a different person said she would make a note of it, but couldn't explain what the hell was going on.

I'm now waiting for some official from SS to call or visit about my not engaging with services for my phantom pregnancy

I wonder if it's something to do with more NHS records going online or on the app and stuff has been mixed up.

Absolutely bizarre though, but luckily as our surgery was crap before Covid we are moving soon so will be leaving it.

Ohexcellent · 26/07/2022 06:17

I’m a wee bit sad that I can’t be there to see her face when she visits @listsandbudgets 🤣🤣
Hopefully it’s an admin error and there is nobody just out there pretending to be you 🙈😬 but I’m glad you’ve still got the Moses basket just incase the midwife for some reason is correct and you’ve forgotten about your pregnancy 🤔🤣

Buttons0522 · 26/07/2022 06:38

Crikey; worrying that this can happen! Can’t wait to hear the outcome!

Tangled123 · 26/07/2022 06:51

A couple of years ago, I kept getting texts from a pharmacy in Solihull saying my prescription was ready. I don’t have a prescription, and don’t live anywhere near Solihull, so I rang them and told them they must have the wrong number. Never heard from them again after that.

I very much doubt that there will be any outcome! As @listsandbudgets isn't the person that they're looking to monitor the pregnancy all they'll say to her is along the lines of "whoops, don't know what happened there, we'll recheck the records, very sorry" and she probably won't hear another word about it.

Proudcarerr · 26/07/2022 07:01

Looking forward to update!!!

EastEndQueen · 26/07/2022 07:04

Midwife here - it will 100% be an error with your hospital identifying number (each hospital will issue these in addition to your NHS number.

It used to happen all the time at my old trust, probably one the admin team entering a digit wrong when the notes for an actual pregnant person were being made and thus arriving at your number. Often happened the other way round and someone would end up with two numbers and sets of records for the same pregnancy.

Someone using your details to access NHS care is technically possible but in my view less likely. But either way it needs to be sorted out at the hospital end as stuff will end up on your GP record etc otherwise. I’m sure the midwife will know what to do but if not she need to cross check with your NHS number and Dob and reach out to the Trust’s Digital or Governance lead Midwife for support

We had an ambulance crew turn up in the middle of the night, banging on the door, waking us up. We hadn't called an ambulance. They stayed parked outside for ages so they evidently didn't find out who they should have been helping.

I'm a paramedic, when I started we were still taking details of jobs over the radio and then writing it down. Obviously errors occurred particularly at 4am when everyone was knackered.

All I can say is you'd be amazed how many people leave a door unlocked overnight!!
