How much would you pay a teenager to feed 2 cats for a week?

He lives in our street, would need to visit twice a day. No litter tray to change. What's the going rate? He's 15 and we're in the Midlands (if that makes a difference!).

£5 per visit, £10 a day. Anything else is taking the piss. The fact that this is a young person doing it, doesn't make the job less important/cat less hungry....

fruitstick · 23/07/2022 19:46

I paid £20 and a box of chocolates to our friend's daughter.

Now I'm feeling guilty.

She seemed quite happy though.

RichardsGear · 23/07/2022 19:54

What 15 year old boy would want a bunch of flowers? 😆

I think 50 quid is fair enough when it's two visits a day.

Maves · 23/07/2022 19:55

Any less than £50 is a pisstake, chattery woukd he £100's professional the same. £50 and a couple of vapes if you're feeling generous 😂

WudYouSayItInRealLife · 23/07/2022 20:00

£30 if it's cLose to his house.

Threeboysandadog · 23/07/2022 20:09

£50 My just turned 16 year old would happy with that.

Ratched · 23/07/2022 18:24

I'd say £50 sounds right.
I pay my catsitter £14 visit, she only comes once a day. For twice a day, it would be £25. So, £175 for the week.

I'd snap anyone's hard on for £50 😁

😂😂😂😂😂 but how much for the cat sitting?!

Mellowyell292 · 23/07/2022 20:49

Thanks everyone. We're going to offer £30 and we'll get a box of chocs aswell. The teen can always say no.

About £50-70. We paid £70 per week to care for our two guinea-pigs, but they needed cleaning out so more work.

toooldtocarewhoknows · 23/07/2022 20:59

Half the amount the Cattery charges.

Hahahahahaha I nearly spat my drink out!

Hyvsvaar · 23/07/2022 21:05

I’d pay 10£ a day for mine…as I would be asking them to pick up and dispose of any pressies that the cat had brought in..I’d also hope that a cuddle/pat was given so they didn’t feel resentful at a pisstake rate

Hyvsvaar · 23/07/2022 21:08

30£ for 14 visits? So just over 2£ a visit

if he says no what are you going to do?

BungleandGeorge · 23/07/2022 21:09

£30 for 14 visits and taking responsibility for anything that goes wrong is derisory, perhaps you should discuss it with the parents and see if they agree..

daffodilandtulip · 23/07/2022 21:10

I've done this for two holidays this year, for a reptile so a bit more complicated than cats. Paid £10 a day to daughters teen friend in the next street.
Pet sitter wanted £15 a trip, needs two trips a day.

CheshireCats · 23/07/2022 21:10

£30 isn't even £5 a day! For having to be there twice a day, thereby affecting what else they can do that day. To look after your loved pet and secure your house! £50 is much more appropriate.

StarDolphins · 23/07/2022 21:14

I would happily pay at least £50 for my cats to stay at home! Cheapest cattery is £19 per night & they would be so upset there, I would feel like I was getting an absolute bargain for £50!

neerg · 23/07/2022 21:30

I pay the teenager who visits out cat twice a day, £8 per day.

Viviennemary · 23/07/2022 21:31

I think £5 a day sounds about right.

it is entirely up to you - if you feel comfortable with that.

but remember teens often are awkward and might say yes out of embarrassment, or not understanding this is pretty low pay.

then if they start to think they are big taken advantage of you might not get the two visit a day service you are hoping for.

and while teen boys eat a lot of rubbish, I have never purchased a box of chocolates for my teen nephew. It’s not really a teen boy gift.

Trainfromredhill · 23/07/2022 21:39

We pay £10/day.

Trainfromredhill · 23/07/2022 21:40

You need to make it worth his while, and for an easy life, I presume you might want to use him again.

RewildingAmbridge · 23/07/2022 21:43

We also pay £10 a day, don't tend to on the day we leave/get home because he has a biscuit dispenser and we give wet food once a day, usually in the evenings but if we're leaving early he has it in the morning. Just put plenty of ice in the water bowl (ours has a large China soup mug, because cats...)

£30 is really low for seven days, two visits a day

kierenthecommunity · 23/07/2022 21:43

I pay our neighbour zero for feeding our fish 🙈 although admittedly it’s only once every two to three days.

I’d pay for cats though as cat food is grim, as I’d cleaning out the bowls 🤢 and tbf the fish are unlikely to die of starvation if they’re not fed twice daily

Mum2jenny · 23/07/2022 21:48

I think around £10 a day as it’s 2 visits, so around £140 - £150 per week.
