How much would you pay a teenager to feed 2 cats for a week?

He lives in our street, would need to visit twice a day. No litter tray to change. What's the going rate? He's 15 and we're in the Midlands (if that makes a difference!).

I’ve always paid £5 a day but that’s for only visiting once at a non specified time.

VillaMia · 23/07/2022 18:41

I’m paying my cleaner £5 a day. She’s coming in twice daily to feed two cats, check on the house, water plants, etc. seems very fair to me.

KylieCharlene · 23/07/2022 18:48

I'd feel embarrassed to hand over anything under £50 at the end of the week.

Mueslikid · 23/07/2022 18:49

We paid our next door neighbours £20 each (two teenagers) plus a box of sweets each to cover 6 days between them.

I think if there was just one of them doing it we would maybe give them £50.

SenoritaNaturista · 23/07/2022 18:51

£5 per visit - so £10 per day.

TwoMonthsOff · 23/07/2022 18:52

£50 as an absolute minimum and a nice small gift (assuming they are too young for alcohol)

MrsPnut · 23/07/2022 18:54

DD is getting £100 to do 10 days of kitten sitting, she's having to spend much of the day there though but with her laptop.

Mushroo · 23/07/2022 18:58

The going rate for a professional round here is £14 for 2 visits a day.

Id pay at least £50 for a teenager and that’s still a bargain

That is incredibly low for that service! How long does that take her? She must really like you

Onceuponatimethen · 23/07/2022 18:59

We pay £15 a day

TrianglePlayer · 23/07/2022 19:01

Oh my life. My kids all look after cats for various neighbours and I’ve always told the cat owners not to pay them more than a tenner a week as it takes about 5 mins a visit if they only have to feed them and not empty litter tray or keep them company etc. £2 a day at the most. It’s not exactly hard.

Madcats · 23/07/2022 19:03

I used to pay our petsitter £6/visit to feed our two until about 4 years ago until she moved and....lockdown.

We paid £50 for a week for one of DD's friends to pop round twice a day last Summer (parents probably came round too once in a while - we're all friends).

Mellowyellow222 · 23/07/2022 19:04

I paid my nephew who is 15 £10 a day for this a few months ago. He had to walk around to my house, let himself in, check the cat was still alive😂, clean bowls, put down fresh food then walk home (next street over). Twice a day.

local cat sitter is £12 for one visit a day - so he was a bargain!

I don’t think it’s fair to take advantage of young people who are often pressured by their parents to do a favour for adults! The suggestion of £20 for 14 visits was shocking🤣. Bowls would need washed every day.

FitAt50 · 23/07/2022 19:06

We pay a cat company £8 a day. They come in for 30 minutes, feed our 2 cats, change their little, play with them and send us picture and update daily.

These people saying £50 are crazy. The kid lives in your street, they are not changing litter and is not a professional.

Is that £8 per day for two visits?

£50 gives this boy £3.50 per visit to wash bowls, feed the cats, check they are still alive and lock up.

someone suggested £20 which is only £1.40 per visit. If I offered a teenage boy to leave his room, go to a neighbours house, wash manky cat bowl and spoon out more food, wash the fork and dispose of the empty containers I am not sure he would jump at it😂

MyDogsTheBestDog · 23/07/2022 19:19

'I'd snap anyone's hard on for £50'

😂😂😂😂😂

mathanxiety · 23/07/2022 19:23

Forget the flowers. Pay more if you're feeling grateful.

£50 at least fir what you're describing.

BerylBird · 23/07/2022 19:24

It depends how old the teenager is, whether you're expecting them to stay and pet / groom the cat, or do any plant watering etc - or literally just put food and water down.

I think £3 per 15 min visit is fair so that's £6 a day / £42 for the week. If you want them to stay longer and pet or groom the cat, water the plants etc them, then pay a bit more. Round it up to £50 and don't feel guilty asking about that too.

HerRoyalHappiness · 23/07/2022 19:26

£50

Bearsan · 23/07/2022 19:31

I think £50 is the minimum but I'd be happy paying £10 a day. It's their time and they have to be available twice a day. The piece of mind while you are away of someone looking in on the house and the animals is worth it imo.

Snog · 23/07/2022 19:34

£10 per day

bigbluebus · 23/07/2022 19:35

I paid 13 yo ndn £30 to water our pots and baskets daily for a week (only had to do it if it didn't rain). Her mum thought I'd been very generous when she found out what I'd paid.

Rainbowshit · 23/07/2022 19:36

PinkPair · 23/07/2022 19:37
