How much would you pay a teenager to feed 2 cats for a week?

He lives in our street, would need to visit twice a day. No litter tray to change. What's the going rate? He's 15 and we're in the Midlands (if that makes a difference!).

£50- it’s twice a day and fairly responsible job. Your cats need feeding and teen can check property.

Hairy kitty

then I hope your volunteer yourself and not your teen!

riotlady · 23/07/2022 17:48

£50

It’s up to him if he wants to do it or not, or if he wants me to help out.

InFiveMins · 23/07/2022 17:51

£50 seems reasonable.

fussychica · 23/07/2022 17:52

If you want it done properly and hope the person would do it again, if required, then realistically it's a tenner a day for two daily visits. It's easy work but far cheaper for you than a cattery.

Connie2468 · 23/07/2022 17:55

Probably a £5 a day, but round it up and give a gift.

theremustonlybeone · 23/07/2022 17:56

My friend paid my DD 50 for looking after her cat. Involved scooping out the poop and ensuring they were fed. That was for a week. Seems reasonable

ShrillSiren22 · 23/07/2022 17:57

I pay my neighbour’s teenager £10 a day - that’s for them to come round twice a day and feed the cat, wash the bowls, empty and refill his water fountain, water the plants and have a quick play with the cat which he always sends me WhatsApp photos of (unasked). It probably takes him about an hour a day in total so £10 seems fair to me.

LemonSunchines · 23/07/2022 18:00

I agree with the others, £50 plus a nice bunch of flowers

florianfortescue · 23/07/2022 18:06

We pay £15 for two visits a day. £10 for a single visit, e.g. if we're back mid afternoon.

Runningupthathill01 · 23/07/2022 18:08

£25

mumto2teenagers · 23/07/2022 18:08

I think £50 seems like a reasonable amount.

Cotherstone · 23/07/2022 18:10

Depends on the cat. We’d pay about £30 but it would be to a neighbour next door, and the chances of our cat appearing and asking for attention are slim to none. Plus no litter tray, so it would literally be a 2 minute visit morning and night

£10 per day. It's not a lot of work, so the hourly rate would be quite high, but it would really be interrupting his day. My teenager often gets up late, and is out with friends in the afternoon/evening, so feeding a cat would probably mean changing her day around to suit the times the cat needs feeding. So it's not just about the actual hours worked, but the inconvenience of the hours worked as well.

MarthanotMarfa · 23/07/2022 18:19

I pay 45 Euros for exactly this and putting out/taking in the bins. I used to pay 60 as the other teen had to cycle over twice a day.
I also get cat photos during the week!

Ratched · 23/07/2022 18:24

I'd say £50 sounds right.
I pay my catsitter £14 visit, she only comes once a day. For twice a day, it would be £25. So, £175 for the week.

I'd snap anyone's hard on for £50 😁

Ratched · 23/07/2022 18:25

Oh God! I'd snap anyone's HAND OFF 😳😳😳

TheOGCCL · 23/07/2022 18:28

I'm on Cat in a Flat and charge £18 for two visits a day though they take 20% commission.

If you expect this person to be responsible and able to cope if something happens, and potentially spend some time playing with/cuddling the cat, then I'd say at least £10 a day. It is a responsibility and not always convenient if spontaneous plans are suggested.

Beamur · 23/07/2022 18:28

£50 is fair. £20 is mean.
Catteries charge something like £10-15 per cat per day.

Itsnotwhatitlookslike · 23/07/2022 18:29

Will the teen be washing the bowls too?

Flies are laying eggs really quickly in our cat dishes, even when we can’t see any of them flying about inside!

Some of the prices on here are miserly. I’d rather pay more and have my cat fed properly.

HappyAsASandboy · 23/07/2022 18:33

I pay a teenager £5 per day to visit once, to feed the cat and water the veggies/plants.

Not sure I'd pay double that for two visits, though it would seem harsh not to as two visits is twice the work as one visit, and ties them to a certain time of day (to space the visits). One visit they can fit in whenever suits them

Tinkerbellflowers · 23/07/2022 18:38

It's a very big responsibility, so I would say more than £50. Maybe £70 (so tenner a day for a week). Not only is he looking after your cats, he is checking in on the house too.

Greenstar22 · 23/07/2022 18:38

£50 sounds about right, also if he does a good job and is trustworthy pay him well so that he will want to do it again, trustworthy people are worth paying a little bit extra for.
