Also, Aldi halloumi nuggets are lovely, DC love them for dinner with wraps and salad or with chips / peas etc

MercurialMonday · 23/07/2022 12:34

Bargain! I think I might swap to Aldi!

It's noticeably cheaper if you are swapping from a more expensive supermarket - though fruit doesn't keep as well as from other supermarkets though IME that can be store dependent - but if you already regularly shopping there are noticeable price increases.

takeitandleaveit · 23/07/2022 12:35

I defy anyone to make their own angel cake slices for 95p.

what's the point of these threads @takeitandleaveit ?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/07/2022 12:35

I'm guessing nothing - you sneaked out of the supermarket without paying.
Again.
😱

goingtotown · 23/07/2022 12:35

The prices individually are.....

OooErr · 23/07/2022 12:36

takeitandleaveit · 23/07/2022 12:30

Where? Because I've counted up several times and can't get it past 15, even with counting the 4 pies individually.

Don't know, but here's my take:
Processed Foods
4 premium pies
halloumi fries
2 goat's cheese tarts
fries
hash browns
3 rice pouches
angel cake
crackers
biscuits
Baked beans
Mushy peas

Also processed meat (assuming these are ready to eat)
slices ham
sliced chicken
sliced pork loin

???
Tinned toms
Kidney beans
*don't know if rhese are the precooked sort or not

Motnight · 23/07/2022 12:36

Last time I read a thread like this Op had left out half of her shopping 😁

godmum56 · 23/07/2022 12:38

takeitandleaveit · 23/07/2022 12:06

19? What are they then, because you've lost me.

4x premium individual steak & ale pies
Halloumi fries
2x Goats cheese lattice tarts
Frozen skin-on fries
Mini hash browns
3x microwaveable rice pouches
pack sliced ham
pack sliced chicken
pack sliced pork loin
stuffing mix
angel cake slices
cereal bars
8x croissants
cream crackers
Viennese biscuits

I get 15 if you include the biscuits

Herejustforthisone · 23/07/2022 12:39

Why have I just read this thread?

JinglingHellsBells · 23/07/2022 12:39

I don't know if you are trying to save money @takeitandleaveit but there are a lot of things you could do to reduce costs. IF that is what you want!

Packets of microwave rice - it's a huge cost! Buy a bag of rice and cook it yourself.

Make your own skin-on fries- dead easy and just bake in the oven with the spuds you have bought!

Buy frozen green beans- much cheaper than fresh.

Make your own pies and tarts, cakes and biscuits. Far healthier too as they won't have half the additives of factory made ready meals/ cakes.

NewCatName · 23/07/2022 12:42

Grackl8 · 23/07/2022 12:27

Crikey OP, is that how you get your kicks😀 You need to get out a bit more!

And yet you're here reading it, which you could argue is worse 😆

That's a good price OP. How much were you expecting it to be out of interest?

Appleblum · 23/07/2022 12:43

You got a good deal. I was expecting it to be closer to £150.

Chewbecca · 23/07/2022 12:45

The cake you make yourself would be made of much better quality ingredients so not really comparable from a cost perspective but I’d rather eat butter, eggs, sugar & flour than the stuff in processed cakes.

bellac11 · 23/07/2022 12:45

Whats the issues with tissues?

Well done OP nice trolley and a good price.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 23/07/2022 12:45

Off topic but ive recently discovered farmfoods. 5 nectarines or peaches are 39p. Big trays of apricots are 50p, tubs of strawberries for £1, four pink lady apples for £1. The bags of dried fruit and nuts are very cheap too. Im usually an aldi shopper and hadnt really been in before but ive been pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth a visit for anyone who lives with a pack of locusts like I do.

JinglingHellsBells · 23/07/2022 12:45

Is it not better value to buy a pie that serves 4 people rather than 4 individual pies?

Why are you eating so much processed food (and meats that are full of nitrates?)

I know you didn't ask for a debate on the healthiness of your food shop, but the amount of white carbs and processed meats is quite unhealthy.

Lysianthus · 23/07/2022 12:46

@takeitandleaveit You forgot the wine.

JinglingHellsBells · 23/07/2022 12:48

@OooErr You missed the stuffing mix!

Honestly, OP, bought stuffing mix is horrible stuff.

You need breadcrumbs, an onion and some sage (and S&P) and you can make delicious stuffing in no time at all for next to nothing.

takeitandleaveit · 23/07/2022 12:49

Decafflatteplease · 23/07/2022 12:33

Just seen your update that's a really good price @takeitandleaveit

Can I ask what sort of meals you are making. It seems similar to an Aldi shop when I go minus the cat stuff but I come home and realise I haven't got any actual meals it's all bits and bobs admittedly stuff we will use of course. Maybe I'm just bad at meal planning!

Well this shop was not entirely representative when it comes to meals, because I didn't go with that in mind. The next few days are already catered for. A fair bit of this shop was stocking up depleted cupboards and freezer. Things like the microwaveable rice are not something we use all that often.

And for the pearl-clutchers: We buy local free-range eggs & honey, bread from a local bakers, and most veg from the farm shop. A proper farm shop with produce from local farms in it, not a poncy one.

OP. How much did you pay for 200g Nescafé, it’s £5/£5.50 when it’s on offer in other supermarkets. Did you pick up the Aldi dupe?
