£20 before the 6th line. But you could shop smarter. E.g.: one big pie is cheaper than 4 small ones, halloumi is £1.80 in lidl and pennies in cornflour, seasonings and oil to make your own...the rest of your list looks very "convenience food"
Don't you do a tally in your head as you go round? My surprises are never more than £2 over or under.

MenaiMna · 23/07/2022 17:03

And sorry on the app I didn't catch every update. I understand if convenience foods are necessary for someone who can't cook anymore. I have to buy pre cut frozen veg these days myself.

@JinglingHellsBells

All cancer is thought to be only 5% due to genes, except some types.

Calling bollocks on this statement. Source? Think you’re confusing the fact there are +20k genes in the body and we don’t yet know which mutations (or types of mutation) and combination of, causes all cancers. Just because there is no family history doesn’t mean anything, except it was or wasn’t inheritable.

JinglingHellsBells · 23/07/2022 17:09

@takeitandleaveit Not sure how it's patronising to make a statement of fact about what your food consists of.

How is saying there are refined carbs in croissants patronising?

Was anything Reduced Op? Not A promotion but reduced due to close to sale by date or damaged packaging for example

Nothing reduced no, I sometimes go to Morrisons at about 6pm for that. Got a huge bunch of rhubarb for about 10p recently.

I'd say you got quite a lot for your money there, under £90 isn't bad at all.

"In fact many of the things you listed are not 'foods' but condiments, and non-essentials"

No... really?? You must have missed the bit where I said I was stocking up on storecupboard bits then, and not doing an acrual full weekly shop. I know they're not essential. Why should I just buy essentials anyway?

"I'm sure that on balance you have a reasonably healthy diet but your list does include a lot of white, refined carbs, hidden sugars, preservatives, and possibly unhealthy fats"

Gosh. However did I survive to the age I am today without having you around to patronise me?

Please please ignore any comments to do with food on this bloody forum op.you’ll go away with a fucking eating disorder.
your choices are fine.you don’t need to read every daily mail article and believe that a bacon Earnie will rot out anus out or clobber our colon.
you don’t need judgment on your food.if this was your Riley without the other stuff at home that would be fine too.you can have white carbs! And still be balanced and healthy. Or if you aren’t healthy that’s still no one else business. Please don’t change your food choices based on money. It’s known for its competitive starve yourself on a plate of chicken for a year mantras.this is healthy for your family. Good on you.
also people no what processed means right.that every food you have is processed. Even carrots go through a process to get it to your plate!😮
op you don’t need to give reason for your choices. You came in to comment on good cost.your choices are fine.

It is patronising to assume that I needed to be educated on the matter, yes.

£80 if it was Aldi
or Lidl
150 in the rest of them

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 23/07/2022 17:38

Sorry OP didn't realize you have said how much it was but l am really chuffed l wasn't far out 😂

justasking111 · 23/07/2022 17:43

You don't grow your own rice??

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you. 🤣🤣🤣

Isthislove4ever · 23/07/2022 17:49

Just because I'm really bored I price checked with Tesco too.
It came to £99.83.

.......so quite a bit dearer and some items were smaller packs: eg, foil only 10m (without buying brand) but cost £1.80 (I added 2 x 10m as closest fit for £3.60) as opposed to Aldi's 30m for £2.69

Dread to think what Ocado or Sainsburys would cost.

takeitandleaveit · 23/07/2022 17:50

@TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans Good call.

@justasking111 Don't think it hasn't been considered. 😄

Thank you !
Tbh l am surprised Tesco was only 18 quid dearer, their prices are terrible.

darisdet · 23/07/2022 18:13

Has anyone checked Sainsbury's? I'm not volunteering (lazy) just wondered if it had already been done.

SpindleInTheWind · 23/07/2022 18:18

I’ve had to start using microwave rice. I’d be dangerous with a pot of boiling water.

Im not so safe with knives, either.

WimbyAce · 23/07/2022 18:26

I was gonna say £150 so £80ish is good I think 👍🏻

MotherOfPuffling · 23/07/2022 18:27

Quite a few PPs have mentioned putting the shopping list into supermarket apps to see where it is cheaper. Stupid Q, but how does that work? Does one have to input each item individually on a load of apps? That sounds v time consuming. Or can one somehow transfer the whole basket contents in one go? Or is there a comparison app that looks at all the different supermarkets for one? I have already reduced to amount of food I am buying, dropped the brands and the treats, but still need to save some more.

Mythreefavouritethings · 23/07/2022 18:27

How a simple and perfectly innocent thread about the cost of shopping became such a pile on, I don’t know, but my God people can be snipey. Sneering comments about ‘I wouldn’t know, I don’t buy this sort of thing’, groaning that it’s obviously an ad, or lecturing about diet, it’s just so rude and obnoxious. Is it being online, some kind of personality complex or just people? Awful. OP, looks like a great deal, I hope whoever ate the food enjoyed it. I’m having pizza tonight, bite me.

@AppleBottomRats it is but on risk assessment I'm more like to get dementia
Every one has to work out their own risks. I have no family history of any cancer, but dementia is everywhere. And at this point I would rather have bowel cancer and die early than with dementia

What an insulting and ignorant comment. You really don't want bowel cancer. It's not the easy option.

The only thing being eaten so far will be some of the new potatoes with this evening's dinner - cajun chicken drumsticks and the proverbial massive salad. Possibly followed by melon. Or gin. 🙂

Scotch pie, chips and vegetables.

I'm a lazy mare this evening 😂😂

Tabbouleh · 23/07/2022 18:36

What a bonkers thread. I didn't realise Aldi was so cheap. Which is the point of the thread, not the refined carbs the OP is eating.

BritWifeInUSA · 23/07/2022 18:37

takeitandleaveit · 23/07/2022 14:10

That's because there aren't many main meals on there. We have 4 adults in the house, one of whom has hollow legs when it comes to carbs.

On one day, there will be chilli for instance, but we already had all the ingredients for it except the kidney beans.

So it was just a top-up shop?
