We are completely gridlocked in four / five hour delays due to border control issues. Kids are climbing the walls already Confused

"Post-Brexit travel rules mean British nationals may stay in the Schengen zone for no more than 90 out of any 180-day period. Until a fully automated border system is operational, passport stamps are now required at most entry and exit points, significantly increasing processing times."

Glad you made it OP!

How long was the crossing at Poole/Cherbourg @DoraSpenlow ? Maybe that’s the way forward, stop passenger traffic at Dover, leave that as a trade port and redistribute passenger tread fix along the south coast for France and from Harwich to Belgium/Holland etc?

Sorry for the delay in replying, been away for a few days. Crossing is about four and a quarter/half hours.

Well if getting here was a bit of a faff, getting home has turned in to a complete and utter nightmare. Car broke down on French motorway on way back to Calais. It is beyond repair so will need to be repatriated at a later date. The recovery person dropped us off in the literal middle of rural France with our essential belongings, 100km to Calais. LV assistance are booking us a hotel somewhere and a taxi to it, but there don't appear to be any ferry crossings with foot passenger availability. 2 kids absolutely climbing the walls. I could cry 😭

what a nightmare
can you get to Paris & get the Eurostar back ?

TheBikiniExpert · 31/07/2022 17:10

Oh no. What a nightmare. Do you have travel insurance- maybe they could sort something out for you? Could someone meet you in Dover?

TheBikiniExpert · 31/07/2022 17:11

Sorry - just realised LV assistance must be the insurance.

TheBikiniExpert · 31/07/2022 17:12

Do you have any relatives or good friends who could pick you up?

Arsewangry · 31/07/2022 18:42

We have managed to book a foot passenger ferry tonight from dieppe to new haven. Arriving at 4am. Our family are based in West Midlands and won't be able to collect us so we are looking at a train journey back from there. Nightmare- none of us have eaten since breakfast. Hope for something on the ferry!

Good luck! I hope the rest of the journey goes relatively smoothly.

We just went through passport control. The staff are all looking very relaxed about everything - no sense of urgency, no marshalling inside the port. It's all very business as normal but taking bloody ages.

On the most recent thread the common perspectives is similar, lack of staff
