Am I the only person in country who is happy enough with weather?

Totally understand if you got health conditions or burn or got small kids

However, I'm in North. It's v hot. I'm ok. No moaning. I can sleep. Can't get over all the drama and moaning about the heat!
Feel like im a lone voice!

about how you like a non-catastrophic life is a bit tactless, to put it mildly

But that is true in all areas of life. We can not say we find anything easy/enjoyable/great in that case as there will always be someone that isn't.

I'm not saying to the people that have lost their homes, cheer up this weather is lovely, just giving a different response to all those that are not in a catastrophic situation but that don't like the heat.

Come winter there will be posters saying how much they love the snow, I won't try to make them feel guilty just because my situation is different.

Are you happy the climate is changing in a way that will make everything more expensive, lead to serious problems and make our children have worse lives than us?

It is not specifically about those homes yesterday.

lolaspinola · 20/07/2022 09:31

I’m loving it. You can’t please everyone. Meh!😂

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 20/07/2022 09:33

It is possible to enjoy the sunshine and yet be concerned about others/what the future holds.

KilmordenCastle · 20/07/2022 09:36

I work in a restaurant that is on a leasure park with 3 other restaurants. Last night all 4 restaurants were turning people away because the chefs were simply unable to cope with the heat. The kitchen was unbearable, our chefs looked like they were going to collapse. I was really worried about them. I was nearly in tears running around the poorly air conditioned restaurant because I was so hot and frazzled.

Our homes and businesses in the UK are just not designed to cope with this kind of weather. Big changes are going to have to be made and fast. But these changes are expensive so will probably be put off until it is too late. I find it all a bit scary tbh.

willowstar · 20/07/2022 09:39

Like others I am concerned about climate change and global warming and feel sorry for people who don't like or tolerate the heat, but I personally have enjoyed it and would take it any day over cold wet miserable weather if it was just about weather and not all of the associated problems.

We are all wired differently. I suffer a lot in the autumn and winter months and absolutely crave the warmth and light of summer. I have really enjoyed the bright sunshine and searing heat.

It was 41 were I lived yesterday and I struggled to work in my very poorly insulated and ventilated shed, but if I wasn't working I would have been quite happy.

You're in the north, it's not as hot.

Sheffield was 40 degrees. Wakefield had the hottest night ever recorded at 27.9.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 20/07/2022 09:58

I do agree @KilmordenCastle and we need to start doing things now so that the cost is spread and that plans are made for a hotter future .

Things like great big windows and whole glass walls, we have had a new housing estate near us where they removed lots of trees so the houses could have views but they are south facing and the trees would have provided shade. Planting for the future shade is something we need to think about now. Also houses near me are being painted black and grey, this will not help as the temperature increases .

KilmordenCastle · 20/07/2022 10:10

@MrsRobinsonsHandprints If we had decent air con in both the restaurant and the kitchen then last night would have been fine. Hard work and a bit hot and uncomfortable yes, but that's the nature of the job. But the heat in the kitchen has actually been a danger to health over the last couple of days.

I'm sure there are some restaurants (and other businesses) that are equipped to cope in that kind of weather and have been OK the last couple of days. But there will have been many that weren't OK.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 20/07/2022 10:12

I'm in the SW. on the cusp of the red and amber zones.
I love the hot weather, though obviously not the fires, deaths etc that come with it.

Crocswithsocks · 20/07/2022 10:31

Again-I think it’s entirely possible to be concerned about climate change but still objectively enjoy the sun in the moment.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 20/07/2022 10:41

@KilmordenCastle the problem is if they install air con they will be adding to the problem.

djdkdkddkek · 20/07/2022 10:43

No I’m loving it!!

Not quite the same as the Bush fires that Australia suffers from

You might be surprised. There are idiots in Australia too.

Oh I know... My mate who lives there says most are started by camp fires and a tiny bit of wind taking an ember.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 20/07/2022 09:14

I agree it doesn't.

Finding positives in bad situations isn't child like, it is human, it is what creates resilience, it is what stops us from giving up.

@carefullycourageous you trying to belittle me and police my words, does that do anything for climate change? Does that change our futures? Or does it just make you feel righteous?

We only get one life, we have to find all the positives we can, even in war humans find positives.

Not just that but the reality is that human evolution has been created and progressed out of just such changes. Huge movements across continents, different types of diets, different types of society creations all because of and contributing to climate change.

Same for many species and their evolution.

Yes 😅 I’m by the coast and it’s boiling

Bore off the south coast of England was perfect heayt. In fact you could tell the difference betwee london and the South coast. Nothing like the med at all. Bearable heat

Evolution involve extinction. Many species on earth will be extinct. Some of the places will be unlivable. Movement across continent is likely to happen, but is that sustainable? We are already experiencing severe effect of climate change in certain countries. Just because UK is one of the lucky country that hasn't been affected yet, the future is still unknown.

I'd like to be positive, but being positive is different from not understanding what's happening in other part of the world and making a silly post claiming you are happy with effect of the climate change.

Yes, there have been more species extinct than exist now, including early forms of humans. This may or may not be on the cards now.

Its not necessarily about being positive or negative, it will be as it is, of course there will be areas that are unlivable, just as areas which are currently unlivable will change to be habitats for different species.

Humans like to think that our lives now are immortal, unchangable, all powerful. We're not, we will change, evolve, and that will be the case for other species too. We may not be top dog anymore either.

This period of time in history is such a blip, is a spec of time.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 20/07/2022 20:12

@bellac11

Can you say that to the people who's home is becoming unlivable, or forced out of their home right now, because of harsh environment caused by climate change? I've seen the documentary about the graveyard of the ancestors become underwater, or the wells being contaminated by sea water. That is heartbreaking.

I'm happy up to 30 but not above that. It's too hard with a toddler and a hot flat.

If I dont say it, will it make it less true?

Our home will become unlivable, you realise that dont you?

Noodlicious · 20/07/2022 20:40

Anyone who says they ‘enjoy’ 40 degrees is not fully being honest. I totally get folks who enjoy 30’s as I have myself many times. 40? Nah.

It’s not sensible to sunbathe with the UV that high, unless an elite athlete used to it you can’t exercise between 9-6 really, transport was all over the places etc. so just not buying it sorry.

People discussing it being 40 degrees are not catastrophising, it’s just called a discussion.

We’ll done on coming first in competitive heatwaves.

I enjoyed but yes, because I didn't need to exercise or do manual work.

I sat outside to work on my laptop all day, and spent my lunch hour sunbathing. Was lovely

I'm in the North it was 35+ yesterday's hot enough ,still very hot now .

purdypuma · 20/07/2022 21:28

South Yorks was 40 degrees yesterday & I was on the road working in it whilst constantly keeping a beady eye on my dash for any signs of overheating despite checking my coolant at the weekend...both windows open in the car & nothing but hot air getting blown in. Think Satan's armpit!

Getting to sleep last night was nothing short of a joke despite fan on all night & sweating from places I never knew possible. Felt sick prior to going to bed & the poor cat didn't know what to do with herself.

Local to me we've had fields & houses on fire In several locations.

If this weather is the future then we seriously need to change the infrastructure in the UK as we are not set up for it as things stand eg our roads are tarmac not concrete & our railway lines are only engineered to stand heat of up to 35 degrees!

I don't think people are necessarily moaning, more discussing a topic which is not the norm & that's human nature.
