Totally understand if you got health conditions or burn or got small kids

However, I'm in North. It's v hot. I'm ok. No moaning. I can sleep. Can't get over all the drama and moaning about the heat!
Feel like im a lone voice!

I'm in the southwest and I've had a lovely day. If it wasn't for the news and threads telling me I should be terrified it would have been like a normal hot day in summer.
My thermostat in the hottest room downstairs has hit a maximum 29°c over the last 2 days and my coolest has been a few degrees cooler, our garden was too warm to sit out in though this afternoon so we stayed inside.
I've had hotter days in previous years when we've felt desperate for a thunderstorm to clear the air.

Whilst I accept that others in different areas aren't in the same situation, this is one of those times I'm going to use my own experience of how I have been affected rather than how others are telling me I should have been.

A fine example of someone getting irrationally annoyed.
If I stop enjoying the heat will all those bad things stop?

It is ok to find positives in a dire situation.

Yes, homes being destroyed and children drowning are no big deal, so it’s irrational to be annoyed about them. Hmm

But my post (if it was, indeed, my post that prompted yours) was my irkedness at the selfishness, and ignorance of people who think that this heatwave is no big deal, just because it wasn’t for them.

millerpie · 20/07/2022 00:47

Oh yeah it’s been absolutely lovely in Lincolnshire at 40 degrees. Not.
The hot breeze was like being in a fan oven for two days, it’s nearly 1am and it’s no better.

ZenNudist · 20/07/2022 00:49

Unpopular opinion alert.

You'll get shot here.

It's muggy in Manchester but the reason I'm not sleeping is due to accidentally ordering caffeinated ice coffee when I don't usually make that mistake with hot coffee..

MaryJoLisa · 20/07/2022 00:49

I love hot, I could lie in it all day. However my bedroom temperature is 31.7 and sweat is dripping in my eyes. I do not want to lie in this all night.

Fizbosshoes · 20/07/2022 00:53

I like hot weather. By that I mean 25-30°c . This is not normal hot and brings all sorts of problems fir people, animals , the planet, infrastructure and daily life.

LovinglifeAF · 20/07/2022 01:03

I’m in the north too it’s at least in the realms of normal hot that you might get further south or abroad

not 40 degree hot

Vecna · 20/07/2022 01:27

I'm in Lincolnshire with a newborn. Maybe the people complaining have different circumstances to you.

Drevere · 20/07/2022 02:39

Those temps are normal in summer where I am. Love it. The last two years have been unusually cooler though and last summer it rained majority of it so it was just humid and not that dry hot summer we know and love here... Hope we get a decent one this year to make use of the pool we thought was a good idea but hardly got used last summer.... We have family holidaying in the UK right now and they're getting the opposite of the weather we have right now which is cold and rainy but never snows here. Currently 19 degrees and freezing...

I don't know about that, really. I think 'findong positives' in climate change makes you sound self-obsessed, like a child. A bit like the people who thought lockdown was great because they don't want to go to weddings. Don't say it out loud, you sound weirdly detached from reality.

AbsoluteShambles · 20/07/2022 07:35

It was as hot in Newcastle as it was in my part of SE London when I called my mother yesterday. (37 at the time.)

But back to your question, OP. My mother loves the heat and was sitting in the garden with her book! 😂

FromEden · 20/07/2022 07:37

If it was a freak heat wave and no more, I’d be enjoying it, but it obviously is not.

Wait, is it not? I thought it was just a few days of extreme heat forecasted and then back to normal?

But what's the alternative, to sit in a darkened room and lament.
What does it achieve for anyone's wellbeing to only see the negatives, feeling bad about climate change will not bring back those poor peoples houses.

We appear to be in this odd reality where people think that feelings can change things not actions. So people go on about how awful climate change is whilst simultaneously buying aircon machines, driving short distances, buying one use plastics etc whilst trying to guilt and admonish those that dare to say they like the weather.

I love the weather, I don't wish for it as I know the affect it has on our lives but when it is here I will continue to enjoy it.

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/07/2022 08:49

Where I am in Scotland the weather is glorious and beautiful.

I feel sorry for those down south though. I'd hate the heat they are having.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 20/07/2022 08:50

It's not just about the fact some can be fine with heat waves and others are not, is it? But if you can ignore the effect of climate change and be happy that colder places gets warmer, good for you.

There's no need to sit in a darkened room if you don't want to, no. You sound very childlike though by trying to look on the bright side of what is clearly seriously concerning. Finding positives in climate change just suggests you're a bit simple. Like finding positives in war.

It isn't about bringing back those burnt houses. It's about the future.

If you can enjoy the sun without thought, that's fine - I'm just suggesting you don't say it out loud cos you sound weirdly out of touch with reality.

I tend to agree.
Personally I don’t mind the weather. I obviously feel very sorry for those who have suffered from it but people suffer everyday from many different things. Should I not enjoy a glass of wine because some people are alcoholics?
I do my bit for my carbon footprint, I have signed petitions etc. but ultimately individuals have an tiny impact.

I'm in Cornwall, I've been loving the heat. Totally get why others don't, but personally I do.

This makes no sense.

Louise0701 · 20/07/2022 09:03

It’s not just you @giddygallopgirl We have loved the weather! We’ve been in the pool and the garden all day for the last few days and all got lovely tans ready for our holiday. I wish we had summer like this every year!

mdh2020 · 20/07/2022 09:14

DD and I love this weather and have been sitting in the shade on the patio, dining al fresco and drinking cocktails outside till it’s dark. Just wish I had a swimming pool. Life would be complete. Tired of hearing people moan and wishing it would rain.

I agree it doesn't.

Finding positives in bad situations isn't child like, it is human, it is what creates resilience, it is what stops us from giving up.

@carefullycourageous you trying to belittle me and police my words, does that do anything for climate change? Does that change our futures? Or does it just make you feel righteous?

We only get one life, we have to find all the positives we can, even in war humans find positives.

RoseAndRose · 20/07/2022 09:17

Finding positives even during catastrophes is one thing.

Recognising that a catastrophe is inbound and deciding to mitigate is more useful.

Being in an area that is essentially unaffected by the catastrophe, and squawking on about how you like a non-catastrophic life is a bit tactless, to put it mildly

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 20/07/2022 09:22

But that is true in all areas of life. We can not say we find anything easy/enjoyable/great in that case as there will always be someone that isn't.

I'm not saying to the people that have lost their homes, cheer up this weather is lovely, just giving a different response to all those that are not in a catastrophic situation but that don't like the heat.

Come winter there will be posters saying how much they love the snow, I won't try to make them feel guilty just because my situation is different.

Yes this is what I am getting at.

There is a wilful idiocy in ignoring the seriousness of yesterday.
