@MibsXX, you'd find a debt advice agency really helpful in your situation. There are all sorts of solutions that could help you.

CAB have debt advisers, and Step Change can help you and do everything over the phone, which is easier for people who work f/t.

MarshaBradyo · 21/07/2022 21:03

So, introduce rationing then, rather than leaving the wealthy to buy up all the nutritious food and leaving the poor to eat crap.

Not sure what you mean here, there’s no shortage of nutritious food, just food choices people make.

Walkaround · 21/07/2022 21:05

@Thewigglyone - I think some form of rationing will be introduced - if not to petrol first of all, certainly to gas and electricity. They are already talking about it in Germany, if Russia turns the gas supply off this winter. As for food - what do people think climate change and the war in Ukraine will do to food supplies? Self-evidently there will either need to be controls or a relaxed attitude to starvation.

Tell that to Africa.

Bunnyfuller · 21/07/2022 21:08

He’s saved us £1000s over the years - mortgages, loans, credit cards, tips and tricks.

ithink he was behind on this because honestly, who in their right mind can believe this is ok or even real? He’s stunned our government is quietly allowing this profiteering when he can see other countries halting it.

ofgem has essentially turned home energy into a kind of monopoly and is not halting the rises. Seriously, you’d rather call him a scaremonger than admit Conservatives are fucking it up big time? The only, G20 country lower than us for growth is Russia and I think their reasons are pretty obvious

What are you suggesting? Can you say what you’re after

Ration U.K. food for all to send more to Africa?

Blossomtoes · 21/07/2022 21:12

there’s no shortage of nutritious food, just that some people have a shortage of the money needed to buy it.

rainingsnoring · 21/07/2022 21:17

Yes, I suspect some form of rationing will have to be introduced at some point.
Not everyone has the money to buy nutritious food. Is it really that difficult to understand?

Agree with someone else's 'Don't Look Up' comment. It's pretty clear where we are heading, I think.

Wetcappuccino · 21/07/2022 21:20

I took Martin Lewis’ advice to fix in May/ June 22 as I found an open market deal for 2 years at 46% of the price cap at the time. I believe his advice at that time was to fix if you had a deal at 45% over price cap and you valued certainty. So my bills have gone up - but not as much as they would otherwise come October. And there are no fixes available at that price now. So his advice has helped me.

I’m suggesting this is a world problem and needs better global co-operation, but we’re all too fucking stupid to do anything other than patronisingly claim that there’s plenty of nutritious food to go around, just lots of plebs too stupid to make the right choices. We are all sleep walking into a colossal mess.

theres a shortage of healthy choices at affordable prices....

Well yes because it’s not logical

rationing implies lack of supply. We have supply but if people need money to pay for it then that’s something else

People just had money deposited in their bank accounts for example, which is more helpful than ensuring wealthy people only prescribed number of healthy things to eat

If people are talking about populations in Africa it’s a bigger issue than U.K. alone

Just say it maybe you have good ideas

How can a debt adviser make prices affordable again?

It's not illogical. Rationing in the sense that everyone can manage to buy basic provisions. This has applied (in theory) to the wealthy in the past. We may well have a lack of supply in the future in any case.

Walkaround · 21/07/2022 21:37

@MarshaBradyo - no good ideas, just a loss of faith that those “leading” us are willing to listen to those who do have good ideas, or to tell the truth. They just say what they think people want to hear - eg promising tax cuts, claiming they’ll sort out health and social care, are aiming for net zero without harming quality of life or the economy, will “level up” etc, etc. It’s all patently a load of absolute bollocks, and no politician has the integrity to admit to it. They just shift blame, enable and encourage profiteering, and pretend we can carry on like this.

Walkaround · 21/07/2022 21:38

Also, @MarshaBradyo , rationing is not remotely illogical - as pointed out, it worked well during WW2 and the population were actually healthier on it.

Ok that’s another angle, which is interesting

So limit it and ensure people eat healthy food as we don’t always make the best choices?

ok will ponder that.. interesting

I actually did what to understand what you meant btw

No, not from a control perspective but to ensure that even the poorest have the basics of a healthy diet, ie access to protein, fruit, veg, eggs, bread, potatoes, milk etc rather than the poor starving or eating, for example, a tea and toast diet and becoming malnourished. When I mentioned that it has applied to the wealthy previously, I was referring to WW2.

TmFid · 21/07/2022 21:48

Exactly this. Well said

Walkaround · 21/07/2022 21:55

@MarshaBradyo - it’s certainly time our leaders had better knowledge of and understanding of the lives of their populace. Eg what food everyone can have made available to them that all are capable of using to the full and how to ensure it is balanced and nutritious for everyone - bearing in mind the prices of gas and electricity affects how and when you can cook; utensils, cooking facilities and space are required to store and prepare food safely, etc, etc. The irony is, food can be bought more cheaply the wealthier you are, because you are more likely to be able to buy in bulk and store your food safely, and not think to take into account the upfront cost of the facilities you use to prepare and store your food, or the cost of getting to and from the location it is purchased from, or the cost of the energy used to store and cook the food.

He's right. Anyone who can't see a financial crisis coming is in cloud cuckoo land.

Agree.
I always find his views are spot on.
