Are you concerned about the heat

Won't lie i think too much news and media coverage of it has got to me im actually quite concerned now about the heat , we're in a red zone with it likely to be 39.c mon+tues , I only have the school runs to do but im not even looking forward to that.

I'm a bit worried. I burn easily and really don't like the heat (I wouldn't ever go to a hot holiday destination!) and I have to make a long train journey tomorrow - concerned about connecting trains being cancelled, speed limits and potential track problems making the journey significantly longer, how I'll cope if the train isn't air conditioned. I also have quite a long walk at the other end with a heavy backpack.

I'll get on with it, but I'm expecting an unpleasant and possibly stressful day.

Kez200 · 17/07/2022 11:16

@shinynewapple22 I could but he will probably not want to because "it's a nice day". He has neighbours one of which was a really good friend of Mums, and whose late husband was a mate of Dads. If she is free I know she would help because she's offered and knows we won't take the mick. I'll speak to him later about it as I'm not sure if our temps are dropping now. We are in the westcountry. Today is lovely and breezy...so much so we went to the beach this morning and didn't swim as it was so lumpy.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 17/07/2022 11:17

Not worried particularly just not looking forward to being on placement on a ward that’s hotter than satan’s armpit

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 17/07/2022 11:22

No

ihavenocats · 17/07/2022 11:22

I'm not worried but do want to be prepared. I remember getting to work in London during this type of heat on the tube, which was literally like being in the depths of hell.

Also running around other countries as a tourist being unable to breathe the air.

But at home with nothing to do? I've decided to wait before I take on any work, we've tidied the garden and plan on having all the windows open and doing nothing all day if necessary.

BigWoollyJumpers · 17/07/2022 11:25

No. Media and Government inspired frenzy.

"First Ever Red Heat Warning" - for example. Yes, of course it is. You only introduced it last year your knobs.......

It's only two days ffs. Then back to a normal summer.

Anothernamechangeplease · 17/07/2022 11:25

No, I'm not concerned as I lived in hot countries for years and know how to get myself through it. I won't enjoy the high temperatures but I'm not worried about it.

I am concerned that many people in this country don't know how to manage in got weather, and I think there will be a lot of people doing stupid things.

Blackdiame · 17/07/2022 11:28

Not really. The forcast is high temperature but also lower than normal humidity with relatively high winds. I dont expect it to be terrible. People just need to be sensible but hysteria takes over.

FourChimneys · 17/07/2022 11:32

Not worried for me and DH. We will stay indoors with the curtains closed, drink lots of water and ride it out.

I'm concerned for the vulnerable people I know and for wildlife. We have done what we can to prepare for that.

thereisonlyoneofme · 17/07/2022 11:34

Just looking forward to the massive thunderstorms that will follow !

LuckySantangelo35 · 17/07/2022 11:34

I really don’t get why anyone would be worrying about it

I am deeply concerned because of my autoimmune diseases. My whole body gets stiff, tired muscles, swollen hands, I feel out of it - all sorts when it's low 20s so I am really worried.

CactusFlowers · 17/07/2022 11:38

Not personally, although I was thinking I should finally get round to putting on the summer duvet.

Obviously, on a wider scale it’s worrying for climate change and the vulnerable.

I'm dreading them. 😱

SisterGabriel · 17/07/2022 11:43

But these countries’ routines and infrastructure are set up for the heat. E.g. covered car parks in Spain so your car is protected from the heat, and business hours that take account of the hottest part of the day. We don’t have this, so carrying on as normal is not so sensible here.

Kezzie200 · 17/07/2022 03:26

I'm worried about my elderly Dad. We lost Mum in May and he's trying to give up driving. He's got a blood test on Tuesday and intends to walk to it. Probably 2 miles each way and hes 81. In normal circumstances it would be a good thing, to keep him occupied and moving, but I think I should suggest an alternative to him for Tuesday.

I expect he will resist my advice though because he's been trying so hard t9 do these things

@Kezzie200

Blimey - I'm not at all worried about the heat, but your Dad should absolutely not to do this. If he's very stubborn can you ring the surgery and ask them to cancel it with an excuse?

Gilead · 17/07/2022 11:48

I’m Spanish. I am concerned. The buildings here are not designed yet to cope with extreme heat. Elderly people don’t know how best to deal with it here. And on top of that, I’m in a wheelchair. It gets sticky and uncomfortable.

Kez200 · 17/07/2022 12:04

@Luredbyapomegranate

Looking now he has mid 20s and rain so saved by the bell. I'll talk to home about seeing if his neighbour friend is free to take him because its going to rain! Or a taxi...

AuntieMarys · 17/07/2022 12:14

Personally no. I'm still going to PT tomorrow morning before 10, my fridge is full and I don't work. I will be in the house or in the shade.
I appreciate it will be crap for others.

MintJulia · 17/07/2022 12:26

Not so far.

I've just closed the curtains on the front and opened them at the back. Keeping the sun out is pretty effective as is slowing down any activities. I do a bit of house work and then stop for an hour before doing a bit more.

We have through draught, plenty of water, fruit, salad. We'll be fine.

Long term though, we have a serious challenge. 😓

SirenSays · 17/07/2022 13:00

@takeitandleaveit Have you heard of Jelly Drops, they might help.

MrsDThomas · 17/07/2022 13:14

Im bored, sick and tired of the scaremongering and listening to excuses why this shitshow of a country won’t carry on.

Gilead · 17/07/2022 13:23

@MrsDThomas are you aware of what extreme heat does to the body?

100problems · 17/07/2022 13:29

Not particularly in the immediate term, but certainly in the longer for the impact to climate change.

My elderly DM has sorted herself out and intends to do not much but drink water in the shade. I have to work but will be thinking and moving like a European. DS will go to school as usual.

Business as usual but slower.

meow1989 · 17/07/2022 13:34

I hate the heat, anything over 21c and I'm miserable, so I've been dreading the weather on a "I'm going to be sticky and gross" basis.

However, ds(4) has been spiking temperatures up to 39.2 over the past few days and so I'm more concerned about that - keeping him cool whilst also not overcooling quickly ie in swimming pool. I'm hoping by the time the hottest weather comes he may have evened out a bit.
