I’m going out for a curry and always order the same dish, chicken korma. I fancy trying something else, any suggestions, I tried Byrani twice but didn’t think it tasted of much.

Cocopogo · 14/07/2022 16:41

Passanda, tikka, tandoori chicken,

BoJoGoGo · 14/07/2022 16:41

Passanda or makhani
Are they hot?

Butter chicken.
Chicken makhani.
Both similar to a korma.

Bhuna is tomato gravy based rather than cream/nut but usually pretty mild .

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 14/07/2022 16:42

If you don’t mind some heat, a dhansak. Or butter chicken.

Ilikewinter · 14/07/2022 16:42

Is it the spice you dont like - I like chicken tikka because its not spicy .... also love a korma!

PurpleFadesToGreen · 14/07/2022 16:42

Oh, a chicken tikka masala.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 14/07/2022 16:42

Butter chicken or chicken chasni

BoJoGoGo · 14/07/2022 16:43

I’ve Googled all the suggestions and I think I’d like all of them.

Passanda is almond based rather than coconut, I've been converted to it from a Korma :)

BoJoGoGo · 14/07/2022 16:51

I know I definitely don’t like very spicy and I never steer away from the korma because I don’t want to mess up. The last time I went out and a korma I didn’t actually enjoy it as I think I’ve reached my saturation point.
Do any of these suggestions work well with prawns or vegetables, I fancy really mixing things up?
I have had a Marsala before and I did enjoy that.

BoJoGoGo · 14/07/2022 16:52

Bhuna could be good as I like tomatoes and tomato based sauces.

Lamb Passanda is amazing

RedCarsGoFaster · 14/07/2022 16:54

Add tarka daal as a side dish. Food of the gods.

Tikka masala
Bhuna

I like veggie curries over chicken - much more flavour I find.

BoJoGoGo · 14/07/2022 16:55

Thanks this is very helpful. I do like trying the different naans and rices and I absolutely love mango chutney.

Makhani is butter sauce. Murgh makhani is the Punjabi name for butter chicken. Just in case OP gets confused as to which one would suit more!

BoJoGoGo · 14/07/2022 16:56

I’ll report back tomorrow with what I went for and I’m going to ask my friend to NOT let me order a korma.

I have tikka korma, gives it more flavour 😋

Flamingle18 · 14/07/2022 17:07

Also for starter garlic mushroom puri is delicious

limitededitionbarbie · 14/07/2022 17:08

With chicken tikka masala I've had two types from the Indian takeaways/restaurants by mine.

One is orange and a little bit spicy, the other is red and mild and I am sure there is some coconut in it. It might be worth asking what theirs is like if you are trying it.
