Yes or no

That strawberry one is nice

JumpTheGun · 12/07/2022 16:54

I think girls in general are socialised into “decorative” clothing choices at a young age, whereas boys clothing tends to be much more functional.

I think it’s all a bit unnecessary- frilly dresses and fancy shoes and the lot of it. But I don’t really see why a bikini like the one above is any worse

Yodaisawally · 12/07/2022 17:00

Yes, practical for going to the toilet. More sun cream though.

Hard no on triangle trying to be adult ones.

No, not for me but I’m really surprised about all the replies saying rash vests or tankinis.

I live in Spain where it’s just bikini bottoms on little girls - is that not a thing anymore in the uk? im British and until puberty that’s all I wore on holiday.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 12/07/2022 17:12

So common.

bakewellbride · 12/07/2022 17:16

No.

Clymene · 12/07/2022 17:16

Just bottoms. You don't need tops on little children. Sexualising nipples on tiny girls is weird. We had bottoms only until we were about 7 or 8.

In that case are swimming costumes a problem? Should all girls be wearing trunks instead? Do yours?

crosbystillsandmash · 12/07/2022 17:25

Wtf is wrong with a young girl wearing a bikini?
Obviously if it's very sunny, better sun protection maybe required but a decent sunscreen would solve this anyway.

Much more practical for toilet trips and please please let's stop policing what girls/woman can and cannot wear.
She's 5, if she's like a bikini, get her one op!

So common.

That comment alone screams that you are awful (or common as you may like to define it?)
Where on earth are you manners?

Blanketpolicy · 12/07/2022 17:29

No from me for any bikini that young. I would not put a 5 year old in a bra/bralette, a bikini is no different and unnecessary.

JaniceBattersby · 12/07/2022 17:29

I’d empower her to wear what the fuck she likes and not listen to a load of women she doesn’t know telling her what to wear. If anyone thinks you’re sexualising her because she’s wearing a certain item of clothing then I’d suggest it’s their problem.

I sometimes think MN exists in a separate universe.

AverageJoan · 12/07/2022 17:31

I think it depends on the bikini to be honest. I don't like the triangle top ones, but I don't like those on adults either. I think the strawberry one you posted in the comments is nice.

Here here Janice!!

If people really think a young child in a bikini 'sexualises' them, then I seriously wouldn't want them anywhere near children!!!

MajorCarolDanvers · 12/07/2022 17:35

No. Protect her skin from skin cancer and ageing with a nice uv swim outfit.

I mean, i rarely see genuinely inappropriate clothing in real life but I definitely have on Instagram.

I don't think it's sexualising to point out that kids don't need to wear adult clothing (e.g. a short, figure hugging body con dress), worn by adults to look appealing. It's purely for the parents satisfaction to see a mini me.

(Not really talking about tankinis her, again, normal). I guess than can do what they like, but people saying 'that's not a kids outfit' is not sexualising.

liveforsummer · 12/07/2022 17:48

Lots of things aren't kids outfits but I'd say so on the basics of being impractical or uncomfortable- not because they look sexual ffs. I mean obviously there is a line but for every day clothing available in high street stores. None of it is sexualising

cottagegardenflower · 12/07/2022 17:48
Envy
cottagegardenflower · 12/07/2022 17:49

In this weather an all over rash suit would be better

Onesailwait · 12/07/2022 17:54

The strawberry one is very cute. I can't see a problem. I've been to the lake with my kids most days for the last week & pretty much all the girls (including mine) are wearing 2 pieces from littles to teens.

PolkaDotMankini · 12/07/2022 17:56

I go with a tankini or UV top and shorts with my DD. I don't like the bikini look on children but accept that a) other people do like it, and b) they're cheaper and easier to find.

imnotthatkindofmum · 12/07/2022 18:07

Yes. Why not? It's a swim suit.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/07/2022 18:08

Hard no from me.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 12/07/2022 18:08

I would of been the no way person but after taking dd3 to the beach this weekend in ds old swim shorts because of ease of toilet trips I'm going to get her a tankini next year. Or bakini pants and rash vest.

Oh god I hate this sentence 🙄

Yawn.
