Looks poorly decorated tbh £40-£50

Heres a better quality one
I think the cake just looks rushed

Yes looks rushed. Needs a better finish

The cake uses buttercream only so fairly easy to make
Curious as to why people class it as being worth 50/60 if its not up to par?

A basic cake of that time will cost £ at least in basic ingredients. When 250g butter is now £2.50, your probably looking at £7-10 for a large cake and covered in buttercream depending on size. Decent eggs, chocolate , flour, vanilla all need to be added ££. You can’t probably make a decent three layer cake for much change from £20 min

how long would it take you to make a basic yet decorated cake? I have no idea but at a guess 2 hrs min to make/ bake/ cool/ clean up. 2 hour to decorate. Even if a baker charges say £15 per hour for work, that’s £60 just on ‘time’ not actual ingredients.

Fair enough

If the board was decorated and the cake was neater, £60-70

It's not to everyone's style but I imagine it's been made to match whatever the customer asked for so personal taste is irrelevant. The marble effect buttercream is on trend but the top of the cake looks rushed and messy

Thank you!

How about this one?

I wouldn't pay for those cakes at all.
My sister makes cakes and they can be anything from £60+.
Both cakes pictured just don't look very good. Apologies if they're yours.

Appleblum · 12/07/2022 02:45

I'd not pay for either cake but the first one I'd expect it to be around £30. Second one looks like something I attempted myself and that would be priceless 😂

Are you talking pictures in a way that makes them look itty bitty or they are itty bitty?
Bloody heck, why show nice food? Couldn't you show something disgusting? Now I'm to sleep thinking about cake! Hmmmm....
That last one is cheaper than the first one imho.

😂😂

The second one is tiny though, probably around 3 or 4 inches!

Are you also running another thread with a different user name about cakes for lunches

TickledOnion · 12/07/2022 04:40

It’s a very on trend cake so not to everyone’s taste but the board isn’t decorated, the cake isn’t centred, the edge of the buttercream comes up to high and is too thick and the colours aren’t particularly appealing unless that was what you asked for.
All of which makes me think it was made by a fairly amateur baker. However the baker would have had to cover their costs and time and made a profit so would probably charge about £60.

@Hawkmother 🤣🤣 I just came on to post this one!
I think the part that people always forget to factor in is the wage of the baker!

Surely it has a reasonably thick marbled chocolate 'collar', requiring expensive ingredients and a level of skill that I wouldn't be confident of even though I'm a half-decent baker?

I do agree it looks horrible though.😆
