Now there are 13,000 community members, 60 volunteers, 25 regional groups, three international ones and a mums’ group too. Not bad for something that began as a night out on a hillside for a small group of friends.

They are not the only women’s group to have seen phenomenal growth. “I didn’t come from an outdoorsy background,” says Bex Band, founder of Love Her Wild, another UK-based non-profit adventure community. “But after hiking in Israel I wanted to do more in Britain. I started a Facebook group, hoping to connect and learn skills with other like-minded women, and it just snowballed – growing massively since the pandemic. Now we have more than 50,000 Wilders spread over 40 regional groups in Britain.”

Thanks again Sinnerboy, I'm asking on behalf of my sister who lives in the North East, will forward the link onto her.

SinnerBoy · 08/03/2023 10:24

My pleasure.

Someaddedsugar · 08/03/2023 20:51

We had an icy windscreen again this morning but no snow. Durham looked snowy at the Belmont end when I went to work this morning but didn't see much at Pity Me.

SinnerBoy · 08/03/2023 22:54

Durham's got some great place names, hasn't it? Pity Me, Dipton, No Place, Grand View. Grand View being a terrace of a dozen houses, with a grand view of the Cathedral.

Gilead · 08/03/2023 23:08

Somewhat strangely Steeltown has had no snow yet!

SinnerBoy · 08/03/2023 23:12

Ah, yous are too far South in the Midlands there.

😃

Gilead · 09/03/2023 01:12

We usually get it first!

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/03/2023 06:10

A dusting and that’s it. Extreme weather pft, not sure it’s even Worthy of my big coat

SinnerBoy · 09/03/2023 08:10

Gilead · Today 01:12

We usually get it first!

That's because you're pretty high above sea level. We don't tend to get much on the coast, but go inland a couple of miles and it can be very different. Newcastle has heavy snow forecast today, but the weather map seems to indicate that we'll miss it.

Someaddedsugar · 09/03/2023 08:33

We had nothing too @lifelongfrugaleer but I've driven to Durham and it's snowier here - the roads are all fine but snow on the paths and cars. DP said the A68 was a bit hairy this morning approaching Corbridge.

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/03/2023 06:12

And a good couple of inches this morning

SinnerBoy · 10/03/2023 08:53

We've had rain overnight and it's on and off this morning.

Someaddedsugar · 10/03/2023 22:31

Does anyone know if it's possible to get curtains re-covered? I don't think that's the right name but the seller of our house left a pair of very thick, heavy curtains and rather than buy new I was wondering if these could be reused?

OP posts:
AlviarinAesSedai · 10/03/2023 23:53

Do you mean remade? Curtains, I mean. That can be done but cost will be an issue? Unpicking etc is time consuming.

AlviarinAesSedai · 10/03/2023 23:56

I’m glad the snow is going. It did look beautiful this morning ( in fact my eyes hurt because of the snow brightness)
Just seen on Facebook that Broomhouse farm won two awards. Looks quite fancy.

Someaddedsugar · 11/03/2023 07:29

Yes I think I do mean remade - I'm not very good at describing this. I did a wonder if it would be more costly to unpick them or to buy new. They're just so heavy and thick that it seems such a shame to not be able to reuse the backing.

What did they win the awards for @AlviarinAesSedai? Well done to them regardless! It is a lovely shop and cafe!

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 11/03/2023 07:46

I would imagine they are easy enough to unpick but so you just have fabric.they will need cleaning likely too. Then get them made. If you like them I would do it as decent curtain are expensive to buy

SinnerBoy · 11/03/2023 10:09

Does anyone know if it's possible to get curtains re-covered?

There's a seamstress on Station Road, in Whitley Bay and she did exactly that for us, about 9 years ago. She helped my wife source the new fabric and we unpicked a curtain each, washed them and she attached the bright, new fabric on. They're blackout curtains.

AlviarinAesSedai · 11/03/2023 11:09

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall presented the awards. They won Small farm shop of the year and Farm butchery 2023. They were the Farm retail association.

That's amazing! Very pleased for them!

I hope you can get your curtains!

AlviarinAesSedai · 15/03/2023 21:47

The snow yesterday afternoon! Then it disappeared! What is with the weather.
Hopefully that is the last and spring is sprung!
I see another posh dining experience is going to open in Durham city. In old Mountain warehouse shop. The people opening it use to work at House of Tides.

SinnerBoy · 15/03/2023 21:51

I've just been in Perth overnight, flying to Darwin. It was about 30 Deg when I landed and 35, with horrendous rain in Darwin.

Daughter just texted to say it was -4 Deg overnight. Not sure which I prefer!
