Will check that out, thank you!

111 are unable to help unfortunately because there's just no appointments. Well they offered me one at 1pm but it was for 1:30, and the drive takes at least 45mins! Just physically impossible to get there! 😔

Not too painful atm - I've stuck a temp filling on it but I don't think I did the best job 😬

Oh gosh it's so tough - there's a complete lack of dentist availability but I thought that was because they were dealing with emergencies.

Hope you get sorted.

Anyone going to this outdoor Alice in Wonderland escape room type event next week?

I have bought tickets for DD's birthday.

What's this? I am a fan of all things Alice - but I expect whatever it is will be all booked up by now...

xsquared · 21/10/2022 20:14

@TheSilveryPussycat
From what I can gather after reading the instructions, it looks like an Alice based treasure hunt/escape room in Durham.

Alice Durham

AlviarinAesSedai · 21/10/2022 20:31

Terror in the trees is Beamish hall. Someaddedsugar.
Anyone been to Durham recently, couple of new shops on Silver Street. The Grape(not sure name) looks good. And the Japanese/Korean place is really nice.
Prince Bishops has some Paw Patrol on Wednesday/Thursday.

AlviarinAesSedai · 21/10/2022 20:35

Went to Newcastle this week and saw the closure date for Waitrose, felt quite sad.
Winter wonderland at Kiedler looks amazing.
With new update this thread disappeared.

Someaddedsugar · 22/10/2022 06:42

I didn't realise Waitrose was closing! That'll be a miss for treats at Christmas!

Thank you for the Paw Patrol info - will have a look for times now for DS.

It's nice to see Silver Street getting some investment!

Please ignore my post, I misread the news story - have asked MNHQ to delete.

I rarely used the Eldon square Waitrose I'm wasn't surprised it's closing. There is a bigger one in Jesmond and a full sized one in Ponteland and in Hexham. That's my go to one as I work there once a month so I have a treats shop then 😂

AlviarinAesSedai · 22/10/2022 11:52

I will miss popping on my way home when I go to Newcastle. Will have to go to M&S instead.
I also follow some High Street guru on twitter, so there is also Tortilla opening and Vodafone is moving into old post office shop.I still miss Pret!
New book shop and of course ‘Course’.
Feels quite optimistic if they can get rid of the undesirables.
I do like Discovering Durham and first time in Elvet and Bailey.

AlviarinAesSedai · 22/10/2022 11:57

I’m trying to support the high street and buy local. Only using online if I have too!
Have reduced my Amazon shopping.
Can’t wait for the new bus station to open. Also heard that The Water House will be closing/being sold. (North Road).

It is a really good sign that new businesses are moving into Silver Street... hopefully it will spread to North Road Wink

There is something called Ginstitute opening on Silver Street too - gin tasting bar by the looks of it.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 22/10/2022 17:44

Ginstitute has been around for a while on Elvet but they are moving as the footfall is low in their current location. It is a very good place so hope it will be popular in the new shop.

Always good seeing places open, goodness knows we need it.

PickAChew · 22/10/2022 18:13

For those of us in Durham, the Eldon Square Waitrose is our "local" @gingercat02

I was in town for my covid booster on Tuesday and pleased to see how much less abandoned silver Street looks, now. Prince Bishops, OTOH....

IroningThrone · 22/10/2022 19:23

It's my local and I live in Hartlepool!

I've somehow missed Ginstitute all this time in that case Grin I'll have to keep an eye out for the new location in that case.

Yes, it is shame about Prince Bishops. I used to find H&M really helpful for bits for the children.

AlviarinAesSedai · 23/10/2022 23:20

Forgot Ginstitute! I miss H&M my DD’s both liked that shop. Also didn’t realise Jones the shoe shop had closed again!
The bars etc were heaving on Saturday evening. Someone looked like they had threw purple powder over the ‘Journey’!!

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 26/10/2022 15:27

If anybody is at a loose end tomorrow with dc don't forget the science fair. Always one of the best events ever and back for the first time since the pandemic. We've had a great time today and all completely free!

AlviarinAesSedai · 26/10/2022 20:03

Apparently Scarlet Band are closing! Handed back all their route from council!

AlviarinAesSedai · 28/10/2022 14:45

Anyone been to Aldi at Arnison centre yet? Looks massive!

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 28/10/2022 15:51

No, I've not seen the Aldi yet.

Scarlet Band has indeed stopped. Some of their routes have been taken on by others thankfully. Our village service is now being run by someone else thank goodness as several villages would be without a bus at all if we lost it.

Someaddedsugar · 28/10/2022 16:29

I've been to the new Aldi - it's huge! And the aisles are lovely and spacious - I am a big fan 😂.

Such a shame about Scarlett Band. I used to get their bus from Meadowfield into Durham every day when I worked over there.

I've seen a copy of the letter sent to staff. Very bitter.

Gateshead Central taxis are taking over the park and ride and routes in Durham, which doesn't bode well as they don't have a reputation for being reliable, at all. They're also taking over the 61/62 from Arriva. Weardale and Hodgsons have most of their other routes.

If anyone fancies a bus of their own, they're selling a lot of their fleet off cheap, though 😉

AlviarinAesSedai · 28/10/2022 17:10

I saw on Facebook the aisles look nice a wide. (Aldi). I’m looking forward to Home Bargains and Iceland!
I haven’t seen the letter, where is it at?
On Weardale travel Facebook page lots of relieved people. We have a Weardale bus and even though it’s only once an hour, is very reliable.
If the park and ride becomes unreliable I will just stop going. Arnison centre and Chester le Street will get my custom.

AlviarinAesSedai · 28/10/2022 17:12

If I was handy, I would love to buy a bus and make it into a camper bus. 😆
