It’s so hot upstairs tonight (south) I’ve got my cool pillow gel pad thing in freezer and I’ve dusted off my fan and all windows open, doesn’t help I got a bit of sunburn on the beach yesterday stupidly

By being in Scotland. 😉

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 09/07/2022 21:49

Its not particularly hot here in Somerset, in fact I'm quite chilly.

Tallulasdancingshoes · 09/07/2022 21:49

I’m in the NW and sat under a blanket. Can’t remember the last time I was actually hot.

SuperlativeOxymoron · 09/07/2022 21:51

Currently sat in the livingroom, even ds is down with us when he should be in bed (its 26⁰ in the coolest part of the house, so upstairs is going to be a killer) we've got the patio doors wide open and a fan in front of them in a desperate attempt to blow cooler air into the room. Dh also has a desk fan on the floor blowing at our feet.

Swedesareneeps · 09/07/2022 21:51

In Scotland. It's low cloud, drizzling and maxed out at 16 today.

However, best advice I ever got for sunburn is get some clean towels, wet them then wring them out so they're damp, put them on the burnt bits and they'll take the heat out. Once the towels are dry, repeat. It's like magic (and is really quite pleasant if you're very hot)

@Shehasadiamondinthesky

MiniMoosey · 09/07/2022 21:53

We’ve got a fan mounted on the wall above the tv and it’s lovely. Apart from it blows all the farts back at us.

TwoMonthsOff · 09/07/2022 21:54

@Swedesareneeps
its not a rookie mistake I usually make I just didn’t think it was as strong as it was. It’s my shins so I’m going to use my gel pad on them later

Yeah, living in Lancashire solves most heat problems.

TwoMonthsOff · 09/07/2022 21:55

I’m in a hotel alone with aircon!

My husband is at home with a baby and a seven year old in bed, he’ll probably have a cat laid on him at some point. I feel incredibly guilty…

Joyfultoes · 09/07/2022 21:56

Not that hot in London. It was but not now

LondonLovie · 09/07/2022 21:58

I bought a portable air con unit a few years ago and it the best thing since sliced bread. Pop it in each bedroom before go to sleep, for about 20 mins, and cools the room down. Then keep the doors/ windows shut and put a fan in to circulate the cool air.

Namechangedforspooky · 09/07/2022 22:00

It doesn’t feel as bad tonight as last night. We cooled down with a glass of wine in the garden! (Also in Dorset)

RedCardigan · 09/07/2022 22:00

Like @LondonLovie bought Aircon for the house a few years ago. Game. Changer. Keeps the rooms we use during the day cool, then we let the heat out the other rooms once the temp outside drops below 22 in the evening. Sleep with windows open upstairs all night and then close them once it gets above 24 outside. Works out cheaper than all the people posting about booking into a hotel for aircon or lots of coffees in shops.

TwoMonthsOff · 09/07/2022 22:03

Do the portable air cons cost a lot to run ?

stargirl1701 · 09/07/2022 22:03

Camping.

RaininSummer · 09/07/2022 22:04

Doesn't seem that hot here now but was a toasty day. Have put my cardigan and socks on!

007DoubleOSeven · 09/07/2022 22:05

I'm in Berkshire and sitting in the conservatory atm with the window open, its blissfully cool. If it's too warm in my room to sleep ill be bringing a pillow, sheet and eyemask down here later.

EssexSerpent · 09/07/2022 22:06

South East here, usually one of the hottest places. It was apparently only 26 out today but felt much hotter, the sun was brutal with zero cloud or breeze. 2 lashings of factors 30 and I still have slight pink bits. I like the sun but am more a 25 degrees kinda gal.

It’s going to be very hot here Sun/Mon/Tues (31+) and again the following week. Not forecast below 27 for another 10 days. We’ve had multiple weeks like this already this year and it’s now the case most years.

We invested in decent fans but mainly I sit downstairs with all the doors and windows open this time in the evening to get a through breeze as it is cooler outside. When we go to bed we
leave all doors and windows open upstairs again for air circulation. Beyond that, shower and wet hair for bed and sleep in separate rooms!

RoundaboutRacer · 09/07/2022 22:08

Blinds/curtains shut in all rooms in the weather once the sun gets near to coming in the windows.

And we only open the windows for a breeze if it's cooler outside than in.

So won't be bad in our bedrooms tonight.

Bahhumbugtoyoutoo · 09/07/2022 22:09

I am in Scotland too and it has been lovely and hot here, made sure the windows were open and curtains closed to keep heat out but being an old house luckily heat doesn't accumulate the same upstairs as with some houses

MumOfNowGrownupKids · 09/07/2022 22:19

Solar powered air conditioning unit. Powered from battery which was charged up from solar panels during the day. Guilt free!

Even better!

I don't think they are expensive, it's for perhaps 4-5 nights a year. We have an electric car & I haven't noticed the air con sending the metre j to a spin! But it's literally 20 mins per room (we do the kids rooms mostly, as our bedroom is north facing and not so bad) I wouldn't be without my air con unit with 30 degree days now.

I researched them a lot: you need a small, powerful but not bulky to store and not very heavy.

Wbeezer · 09/07/2022 22:29

I'm in Scotland so it was about 22 max here today, very pleasant. Our old house that's too cold in the winter comes into its own in the summer, sash windows open at top and bottom and the hot air gets pushed out and cooler a suit comes in.
