It’s so hot upstairs tonight (south) I’ve got my cool pillow gel pad thing in freezer and I’ve dusted off my fan and all windows open, doesn’t help I got a bit of sunburn on the beach yesterday stupidly

When it’s hot we open the loft hatch, it really does cool the house down as the heat rises and it’s not so unbearably hot in the bedrooms at night. We’re also in the South East.

I live in an old cottage that is freezing in winter. It's lovely just now. Pleasantly cool. I haven't even got my summer duvet out yet.

Spaghetti0 · 09/07/2022 22:59

@LondonLovie would you mind sharing the brand/model you bought?
we have one. We fill it with freezing water but find the diffference to the room to be very marginal..

TokyoTen · 09/07/2022 23:07

I'm in the SE too. Had a cooling shower, laying on bed with windows open and a fan blowing. Feels lovely tbh!

FruitToast · 09/07/2022 23:11

By living in the NW. I've got my fluffy dressing gown on and I'm under a blanket.

Intothewoodland · 09/07/2022 23:15

Still in the garden. Two of the children are on the sofa still as they fell asleep and we haven't moved them. The toddler is very unsettled from the heat and keeps crying out.

In NW too. Contemplating putting the electric blanket on.

Of course. We got this one. I can see the
650v is on sale on way fair too. Shop a round but this looks like a good deal!

It's pretty light, it's not silent but by no means noisy and defo does the job. We had a water one too but this is next level!

@Shehasadiamondinthesky
what was your day Temp today ? I’m in Dorset it was 27 today slight breeze inland

It was 27 and didn't feel hot really, nice breeze. I'm about 10 miles from the coast.

justasking111 · 09/07/2022 23:34

I discovered years ago while staying in a villa abroad if I took a late evening swim in pool then wrapped up in a sheet while wet the evaporation cooled me right down.

Now at home I take a quick cool shower and use the sheet trick.

LondonLovie · 09/07/2022 23:35

Ps i did a lot of research and this is defo the best for lightest v cost v power IMO.

MsOllie · 09/07/2022 23:43

M&S comfortably cool bedding
Gel ice pack wrapped in a light tea towel (the cat has currently stolen this and is snoozing away making happy sounds, I think he's broken)

missdemeanors · 10/07/2022 00:02

Kicked dh out of the bed

We bought a new bed with such a firm mattress we never roll towards each other these days. Silver linings 😂😂

SummerSazz · 10/07/2022 07:54

I live in a barn conversion with a downstairs bedroom which is partially underground (into the hillside). Always temperate/cool!

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 10/07/2022 07:58

In the NW in a house that holds heat like anything. Got two fans in each bedroom and hubby is in the spare room as he is a constant 50 degrees. No kids to keep cool, just a couple of cats who thankfully don't sleep on beds with people in them!

crossstitchingnana · 10/07/2022 08:03

I'm in a tent, currently dying of heat but cba to get up.

Like @LondonLovie bought Aircon for the house a few years ago. Game. Changer. Keeps the rooms we use during the day cool, then we let the heat out the other rooms once the temp outside drops below 22 in the evening. Sleep with windows open upstairs all night and then close them once it gets above 24 outside. Works out cheaper than all the people posting about booking into a hotel for aircon or lots of coffees in shops.

I agree, absolute game changer, bought one for our bedroom last year, just purchased one for daughters room, we really wouldn't get any sleep without it. Both me and my daughter are really uncomfortable in the heat, makes us both sick! My other half just has to freeze😁

justasking111 · 10/07/2022 11:15

Remember a couple of summers ago people were sleeping on the garden trampoline

AlwaysLatte · 10/07/2022 11:23

Tonight's meant to be hotter. Our house is very old so has quite thick walls but the children are at the top, so I think they'll be better off in an air conditioned downstairs room tonight.

AlwaysLatte · 10/07/2022 11:25

I'm seeing quite a few people mention portable air conditioning units. I thought I might get a couple for my DC's rooms. Any recommendations please?

EssexSerpent · 11/07/2022 21:23
