I don't think the party will allow him to remain in situ until the Autumn.
They know he's an utter liability and if they are going to turn public perception round they need to move quickly.
There will be a hell of a lot of horse trading going on behind the scenes right now with the key players working out what support they may have in a leadership contest.
I'm guessing there will also be pressure being put on some people not to run to reduce the field and thus the number of voting rounds.
We will see in due course, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are less candidate putting their hats in the ring than we might expect and essentially seeing only 3/4 emerging from different wings of the party.
Personally my money is on Wallace, followed by Tugendhat and Javid.
For all Mordant being popular with the grass roots, I'm not sure she's got the pull with the MP's and her stance on self id is something I think will be a liability for her (and something I think Javid in particular would use against her).
Sunak's sunk I think with it being easy to blame the cost of living crisis happening on his watch and the revelations about his wife's tax affairs.
But who knows? A party that thought Boris would be a good leader has proven it doesn't always make rationale choices....
