Has Nadine been dumped? We now have a Minister of State for Digital, Culture etc. and it ain't her.

Oh God, has she been promoted?? Who has got Gove's job??

MNettersForNoahAndFiona · 07/07/2022 19:56

Thank you @Roussette

tobee · 07/07/2022 19:57

Erm well Theresa May stuck around I believe? I think what makes it more head scratchy at the moment is because there were so many resignations before Johnson made his speech today. That's not normal and so lots of posts needed to be filled; you could argue. And, imo, the reasons for the situation (changing stories, lying, sticking up for yet another MPs disgraceful behaviour, the terrible mess the party is left in, plus Johnson's not bothering to address the real reasons why the parliamentary party turned on him at the lectern today has really put a lot of peoples' danders up!!!

Cameron chose to go asap, Gordon Brown lost a general election so new government coming in, etc etc

Summerwhereareyou · 07/07/2022 20:01

Red ,

I thought Boris was against lock downs? He didn't want to lock down or tell people what to do in such an authoratian way?

He had to be forced by the scientists etc.

After he had it and nearly died, I assume he took it more seriously.

jgw1 · 07/07/2022 20:12

I must say I am appalled by the title of this thread. It is childish to call Boris Big Dog.

I think the title would be much better if it read

The one where BloJob leaves a big stain in Downing Street.

WaitroseWoman · 07/07/2022 20:18

...and in Chequers, @jgw1

InMySpareTime · 07/07/2022 20:22

@jgw1 good title for the next one (in a day or two the rate these threads move lately!)

Just giving this nickname a celebratory last outing.

Personally I prefer big knob!

have we seen or heard from our friendly tory bots today? Do we need to send thoughts & prayers?

Did he actually have it though?

That he “nearly died” is disputed by some.

BlackTourmaline · 07/07/2022 20:48

Thanks for the threads…just catching up

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/07/2022 20:48

Indeed.

Runnerbeansflower · 07/07/2022 20:51

Lots of speculation on-line that his reluctance to leave is because he and Carrie are having a big party at Chequers in the summer as a belated wedding celebration.

An interviewee on BBC mentioned it, and the interviewer moved on hastily... which suggests that it's true!

cakeorwine · 07/07/2022 21:37

Just checking in.

I do wonder what's going to happen in the next few days.

ancientgran · 07/07/2022 21:37

BreadInCaptivity · 07/07/2022 18:35

If it means he goes now I think it's worth a party. Let's just get rid of him.

I'm inclined to agree, even though he doesn't deserve it.

No he doesn't deserve it but we deserve to see the back of him. So being totally selfish let's get rid.

DuncinToffee · 07/07/2022 21:42

Tom Tugendhat confirms that he is running for leadership

Roussette · 07/07/2022 21:43

I've been reading here, there and everywhere and I'm guessing that he's been told he can stay till the Autumn if he pledges to resign now. Not sure on this but that's what it seems like.
I am wondering if they've agreed to Chequers party too... if he stays till Autumn, I suppose that's a given.

Trouble is, he's untrustworthy

DuncinToffee · 07/07/2022 21:44

And there are talks that Rishi Sunak has set up a temporary leadership campaign office in a Westminster hotel.

cakeorwine · 07/07/2022 21:53

Trouble is, he's untrustworthy

I wonder if there will be more lies and scandals in the next few weeks?

Highly unlikely I would have thought.
That box of Cummings is pretty much worthless now, poor guy.

tobee · 07/07/2022 22:05

Apparently when asked about the chequers wedding do no 10 spokesperson did not deny it.

tobee · 07/07/2022 22:11

I would like him to go asap. I don't want him to have the party. If he's not going to include any kind of mea culpa and blaming the herd etc he should be shown no mercy by the parliamentary party. Assuming he does leave in October he'll make it look like some kind of chosen retirement. There is no sense of shame. If I was a Tory I would be incredibly frustrated that he's ruined the party. As a non Tory, I think he's done many terrible things but most of all he's abused the office of PM and lowered our reputation in the world.

As in when Trump left office, I don't think it should be normalised that this abusive, I do what I like attitude with little regards to norms should be allowed to occur again.

itsgettingweird · 07/07/2022 22:16

I've come to the conclusion that all those who believe in Johnson and him wanting to deliver for the country aren't wrong.

He does want to. He wants his name in the history books as a great PM.

I also do think he is good at making big decisions - although I'm also aware he could be reckless which is why he does.

The WHOLE issue is that he doesn't have a grasp of social norms. He doesn't understand he has to also hold him self accountable to the same standards if the electorate. He doesn't understand that you can't just tell people what they want to hear all the time and ignore the consequences if that.

He's unfit because of his personality rather than his actual inate ability.

tobee · 07/07/2022 22:24

The fact that he didn't include Jeremy Hunt in his cabinet after the leadership election, the fact that he went hard brexit, the fact that he withdrew the whip from anyone who didn't support him clearly indicates he was not interested in healing the party after (and country) after such a divisive vote. And I believe he did that to benefit him.
