Quick fire question: chocolate

Poppyblush · 06/07/2022 17:38

I need to buy some chocolates as a gift. Would you get:

  1. a variety of nice stuff from supermarket like Lindt, Lily O Briens, Guylian

  2. selection from Hotel Chocolate

  3. selection from Thornton’s

I don’t eat chocolate hence asking. Spending about £25. Needs to be just chocolate.

I was recently gifted an 'everything' box from Hotel Chocolat and it was delish.

scrivette · 06/07/2022 19:30

I buy myself Lindt but rarely HC so would like to receive HC (or Fortnum and Masons champagne truffles).

All the buttons and dairy milk!

I’d go to Waitrose and get Montezumas Extraordinary chocolate, it’s lovely.

maddiemookins16mum · 06/07/2022 19:54

They also do it on Amazon, I love the set of bars that looks like a set of books.

whataloadabullocks · 06/07/2022 19:56

Bendicts bittermints or Bendicts mint collection. Very good quality chocolate and verrrr posh!

LadyHooHa · 06/07/2022 19:57

I know you've decided, OP, but for future reference,Tony's Chocolonely is v good.

Thornton's is horrendous.

I do like cheap chocolate, though.

TheRamblingHeartSongPlays · 06/07/2022 20:01

If I was receiving chocolate as a gift, the one that would make me the happiest is Guylian. It's my most favourite, and it's too expensive to justify buying it on a regular basis.

Egghead68 · 06/07/2022 20:05

Hotel chocolat.

Thorntons is awful

DianaBarry5 · 06/07/2022 20:09

Tonys is awful

😂 I want a Fry’s peppermint cream and a slab of chocolate-covered Kendal mint cake now.

AdoraBell · 06/07/2022 20:25

My choice would be either Hotel Chocolat or Guylian.

Spanglybangles · 06/07/2022 20:37

@RJnomore1 that would be me who suggested M&S 😇

Think I'm the only one who loves Thorntons here and shocked someone compared them to milk tray 😱

You're not alone. I love Thorntons. Especially the continental selection. I don't think the chocolates are as good as they used to be, but I'd still scoff a whole box given half a chance!

sallydoodlecat · 06/07/2022 20:42

A truffle jar from Montezumas. My favourites are the American idol. Or the milk maid. Divine.

norwichmummy123 · 06/07/2022 20:49

Hotel chocolate 🍫

MattoMatto · 06/07/2022 21:23

Supermarket for me - Waitrose own-brand boxes of chocolates are really nice and taste more expensive than they are. Very good value. M&S also good. For brands I’d choose Lindt or Lily O’Brien. Used to love Guylian, but they’ve changed and I wouldn’t bother now.

HC next. Nice enough, but I find them oddly lacking in flavour.

Thorntons just aren’t very pleasant as others have said. Too sweet and oily. Pretty much the worst of what you can get at the supermarket these days. I’d rather have a box of maltesers.

mamaduckbone · 06/07/2022 21:44

Thorntons are grim.
I'd go for really nice supermarket chocolate - Green and Blacks, Tony Chocoloney, Monty Bojangles...or even better for a £25 budget go to a farm shop and get some lovely locally made bars.

A milk tray would do me lovely

I love Lily O'Briens. Especially those dessert chocolates.

I was just coming on to say this . They are about £6 from tesco

hairymuffet · 06/07/2022 23:05

Godiva or charbonnel
Personally, I just love cadburys 😬
