Quick fire question: chocolate

I need to buy some chocolates as a gift. Would you get:

  1. a variety of nice stuff from supermarket like Lindt, Lily O Briens, Guylian

  2. selection from Hotel Chocolate

  3. selection from Thornton’s

I don’t eat chocolate hence asking. Spending about £25. Needs to be just chocolate.

Hotel chocolat

Whitney168 · 06/07/2022 17:57

Waitrose sometimes have boxes of Butlers chocolates, which are much better than those options.

haggan · 06/07/2022 18:02

Hotel Chocolat is just Thornton’s with middle class marketing anyway.

It's not.

Hotel chocolat, 100%

HC is always a bit disappointing, but it’s not THAT bad!

ImperfectAlf · 06/07/2022 18:08

Out of those 3 I'd go for hotel Chocolat, but maybe try Chocococo if you fancy something really good.

www.chococo.co.uk/

Depends on your budget and the occasion, really 🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course it is! Cheap, horrible chocolate in well-designed packaging so they can jack the price up.

BreatheAndFocus · 06/07/2022 18:08

Hotel Chocolat. Some really lovely chocolates there. My mouth is watering as I type this 😂 They’ve got good selection boxes too - Summer desserts, alcoholic, pralines, dark.

AmbushedByCake1 · 06/07/2022 18:09

Hotel chocolate is ok, Thorntons tastes of arse. I would choose Charbonnel et Walker. Mmmmmmm.

Theblacksheepandme · 06/07/2022 18:12

Butler's Chocolates are the best in my opinion.

MarianosOnHisWay · 06/07/2022 18:14

Monty Bojangles from supermarkets

Butler's Chocolates are the best in my opinion.

They are fabulous, by far the best option if you need to pick up a box at short notice from a supermarket - even better ordering directly with more choice, until bloody Brexit made the delivery charge ridiculous. 🤬

goldfinchonthelawn · 06/07/2022 18:17

Weird that no one yet has gone for Lindt. That would definitely be my choice. A big box of their mixed truffle flavours. I am always massively unwhelmed by Hotel Chocolat and Thornton's aren't great either. Lindt chocolate tastes so good and the truffles melt in your mouth.

nocoolnamesleft · 06/07/2022 18:17

HC please.

Thestoppedfan · 06/07/2022 18:19

As a gift I would buy hotel chocolate. If it was for myself I would choose the sea shells or loads of Lindt.

CuriousCatfish · 06/07/2022 18:19

Thorntons. HC is over hyped and has done a good marketing job on people who think it's posh.

TBH I'd rather have a box of Milk Tray.

Ratched · 06/07/2022 18:20

DS sent me a supply of Montezumas for Mothers Day - highly recommended.

To be fair, I would eat cardboard if it was coated in chocolate.......

BuanoKubiamVej · 06/07/2022 18:20

I would probably choose BoojaBooja too unless I knew the recipient well enough to know there are no dietary restrictions. If possible I would get Charbonel&Walker champagne truffles which are totally lush but some people wouldn't be able to eat them so boojabooja safer.

Clevs · 06/07/2022 18:22

Hotel Chocolat

haggan · 06/07/2022 18:22

It's not Thorntons though, like you said!

fortifiedwithtea · 06/07/2022 18:23

Thorntons is now dreadful. I’d buy Lindt

KirstenBlest · 06/07/2022 18:26

Green & Black selection box

MinglingFlamingo · 06/07/2022 18:26

Hotel Chocolate if I was organised. Nearest shop is 45 mins away or online

Other wise supermarket selection. Or nice chocolates from an independent place near by again

Anything but thorntons

TitInATrance · 06/07/2022 18:29

I’d buy Hotel Chocolat as a gift, and appreciate receiving it, but secretly prefer Thorntons. Can’t stand Lindt or Ferrero Rocher.

Spanglybangles · 06/07/2022 18:34

I don’t like Hotel Chocolat, Thornton classic selection is ok as I like the classics like fudge, strawberry cream, caramel etc and know what I’m getting. Lindt truffles also good and clearly popular. How about M&S, they have a bit of a selection of chocs.
