Quick fire question: chocolate

Poppyblush · 06/07/2022 17:38

I need to buy some chocolates as a gift. Would you get:

  1. a variety of nice stuff from supermarket like Lindt, Lily O Briens, Guylian

  2. selection from Hotel Chocolate

  3. selection from Thornton’s

I don’t eat chocolate hence asking. Spending about £25. Needs to be just chocolate.

Thorntons are vile. HC not too bad and I'd be happy to be given some, but a Lindt selection is gorgeous.

KarrotKake · 06/07/2022 18:46

I'd happily take £25 of lindor off your hands. Lindt would also be fine - but ideally not a trayed box.

Thorntons is rank.

I guess the answers just go to show how varied everyone's tastes are!

stuntbubbles · 06/07/2022 18:53

@haggan OMG are you always this literal! “It’s Thornton’s with posh marketing” doesn’t mean it’s literally Thornton’s. It means it’s in the Thornton’s milieu. With posh marketing.

None of the above. If it is a gift then BOOJA is the only way.
It is also fair trade and organic and heavenly. Preferably the champagne truffels etc.

Think I'm the only one who loves Thorntons here and shocked someone compared them to milk tray 😱

Oh, yes I did take it literally.

APurpleSquirrel · 06/07/2022 19:00

Lindt Lindor or Monty Bojangles for me!
HC is ok but definitely not Thornton's.

LadyEloise1 · 06/07/2022 19:01

Leonidas ( my favourite )
Hotel Chocolate
Butlers
Godiva

RJnomore1 · 06/07/2022 19:06

Hotel chocolat if it’s for me please

defo not thorntons, tastes like oily dust these days. Vile.

if it’s for a group of people or prizes etc, a mix from the supermarket to cover more tastes.

RJnomore1 · 06/07/2022 19:07

Actually whoever suggest m n s probsbly has the win

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 06/07/2022 19:09

I like Lindt best personally. Absolutely hate Hotel Chocolat so down to the recipients personal taste.

runningonberocca · 06/07/2022 19:11

Hotel Chocolat - definitely

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 06/07/2022 19:14

Hotel chocolate
hate thorntons, takes like plastic imo

Gingernaut · 06/07/2022 19:15

Moser Roth from Aldi.

No palm oil.

Arenanewbie · 06/07/2022 19:16

I would go for Hotel chocolate from this selection. You will get a nice box with reasonable amount of chocolates.
Thorntons contains palm oil, it’s not good. I do eat them but I’m an addict of high level.
Lindt and Lily O’Briens look less impressive imo.

Svara · 06/07/2022 19:17
  1. Hotel Chocolat
  2. Supermarket (If it's for me then 10 bars of Monzezumas Absolute Black)
  3. Thornton’s
motogirl · 06/07/2022 19:18

Personally I like Aldi's chocolate. For a gift Waitrose usually have decent boxes

Arenanewbie · 06/07/2022 19:18

@Gingernaut you know the stuff!!! There are no boxes atm at least not in our Aldi, just bars.

FoggySpecs · 06/07/2022 19:21

Lindt is best in my opinion, Hotel Chocolat OK, Prestat OK, Thornton's beyond rank. I hate Lindor though.

Erictheavocado · 06/07/2022 19:22

Lindt all the way here. I like HC but have found that some of their flavours contaminate others - a ginger one in a box I was given rendered the entire box inedible for me. If you have a lindt shop anywhere near, they have a wonderful range of flavours, my h bigger than you can get in supermarkets. Otherwise, you can choose a selection online.

Poppyblush · 06/07/2022 19:26

Lindt and hotel chocolate it is!

Thanks!!!

ThePumpkinPatch · 06/07/2022 19:27

Anything but Thorntons as it's tacky, not to mention horrible!

KirstenBlest · 06/07/2022 19:27

I never like the ones listed for a prize. I think that the hype raises my expectations, and I wonder if the judges read the whole book

KirstenBlest · 06/07/2022 19:28

Oops, wrong thread.

Monty Bojangles are nice

pandora206 · 06/07/2022 19:29

If you have time to order, Lindt do a 'pick your own selection' in gift boxes of their chocolates:
