Woman wearing t-shirt with slogan 'I AM ENOUGH' written on it

I couldn't believe that a) anyone would buy such a thing and b) that they would then wear it.

She might as well have had emblazoned across her chest 'I have low self-esteem', not exactly something that I would want to advertise.

I've also seen this as a tattoo - on a woman of course.

Just why????

Why not?

ofwarren · 04/07/2022 10:41

Because she wants to?

SaltySalad · 04/07/2022 10:43

I like it

Spohn · 04/07/2022 10:44

Aww, are you fuming? 😄

RampantIvy · 04/07/2022 10:44

I must be missing something here. What is wrong with the slogan?

I guess its a push back against constant messages that you have to aspire to be more, have more, be flawless, faultless. I can understand the meaning even if I'm not one for slogan tshirts.

jamaisjedors · 04/07/2022 10:45

I like that phrase and used it as a mantra in yoga for a couple of years after leaving an abusive relationship... I needed to remind myself off the fact constantly.

Why not wear it as a t-shirt if you want to?

WhatsInAMolatovMocktail · 04/07/2022 10:47

I think I get it. It's more a statement, "take me as I am, I can't give/do/be more than I'm capable of giving/doing/being".

Instead of expecting yourself to be superwoman and beating yourself up when you don't meet those impossible expectations.

I can think of a few times in my life when that was relevant - eg when I was fragile after a bereavement and in poor health, trying to look after young child and visit an elderly relative in hospital whilst holding down a stressful full-time job. Sometimes I felt "I am not enough for all of this." But then I'd remind myself to that I could only find the strength for whatever I could find the strength for and breaking myself when the next thing came piling on top was in no one's interest, least of all mine.

So for me it's about accepting you have finite capabilities. And being satisfied with what you CAN do, not worrying or feeling guilt about what you can't.

WhatsInAMolatovMocktail · 04/07/2022 10:49

Oh and to add - it's also an anti-competitive statement: I'm not comparing myself to anyone else, and if you want to judge me that's your problem not mine. Happy in my skin.

Hugasauras · 04/07/2022 10:49

I don't see the issue? It's quite a nice sentiment really, and no worse than a lot of slogan t-shirts out there.

No, just baffled. Why would anyone want to advertise their insecurity?

Saying it as a mantra is one thing, emblazoning it across your boobs and walking around London is another.

I don’t think it necessarily means she has low self-esteem - I think that’s an odd judgement.

In fact, I think it’s odd you noticed at all in order to judge!

ClaudiusTheGod · 04/07/2022 10:51

It’s a damn sight better than M&S’s current offering of t-shirts emblazoned with ‘KINDNESS’ across your tits. What the hell is that all about?

Hugasauras · 04/07/2022 10:51

Why is it advertising insecurity? Confused Surely it's the opposite!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 04/07/2022 10:55

Oh god this reminds me of a school run mum I was briefly friends with who would post weekly FB quotes like this.

Certainly in her case you get to the point where empathy and compassion start to thin. Instead of having a constant FB pity party channel that energy into making some tangible changes in your life and get off social media.

Because someone who is secure in the knowledge that they're enough wouldn't feel the need to wear a t-shirt spelling it out.

I also hate t-shirts with 'Be Kind' or similar on them. Again, you NEVER see a slogan like that on boys/men's clothing, only ever on things for girls/women.

.... which, 9 times out of 10 are on the ladies tops not mens Confused

savehannah · 04/07/2022 10:58

I think it's a very valuable slogan and I was pleased when my daughter designed a mirror for herself and put this along the bottom. Knowing that you don't need to change to try to match up to expectations of others is something a lot of people fail to do. I don't think it shows insecurity, I think it shows high-self esteem, basically saying "I don't care what you think about me, I am happy with myself." So ironically she probably doesn't care what you think about her shirt lol.

DucklingDaisy · 04/07/2022 10:58

I agree that a self-help mantra is a strange thing to turn into a t-shirt slogan. Surprised so many people disagree

I do wonder in some cases it is indeed very competitive, I.e whatever's going on in your life I'll trump you.

CalistoNoSolo · 04/07/2022 10:59

I think if anyone has a problem here it's you OP. I can't imagine judging another woman for wearing a t-shirt saying 'I Am Enough'. Utterly bizarre.

DurhamDurham · 04/07/2022 11:02

Women bashing women again.

Nothing wrong with the tshirt if she likes it. Maybe she is battling low self esteem and this is one way to remind herself of her worth. Maybe she has bags of confidence and self worth. Who knows.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 04/07/2022 11:03

Perhaps it had on the back, something like...

'for four adults when served with vegetables and rice'

UsernameIsCopied · 04/07/2022 11:05

I don't see a problem. A lot of people could do with feeling they're "enough" instead of constantly beating themselves up that they need to improve themselves. And how do you know she's insecure? Perhaps she's actually very happy to feel the way she does and wants to tell everyone.
