Woman wearing t-shirt with slogan 'I AM ENOUGH' written on it

I couldn't believe that a) anyone would buy such a thing and b) that they would then wear it.

She might as well have had emblazoned across her chest 'I have low self-esteem', not exactly something that I would want to advertise.

I've also seen this as a tattoo - on a woman of course.

Just why????

If someone wearing that shirt has gotten to you enough that you needed to post to rant about it, then perhaps you need to work on your own insecurities OP. 😁

riotlady · 04/07/2022 11:08

I think it’s a nice sentiment, even if its
not to your taste it’s a bit of a weird leap to say she’s advertising her low self esteem.

I actually had a really nice maternity sweatshirt that said “baby on board”- I wonder how many mumsnetters saw it and were absolutely seething xD

SingingInParadise · 04/07/2022 11:11

I like it.

If I was seeing someone with one like this, I assume that they were giving a big middle finger to the whole system constantly telling women they are never enough.
i would assume they are very secure in themselves.

So it’s interesting to see your assumption is exactly the opposite!!

im more surprised by how upset you are about it tbh.

Thehawki · 04/07/2022 11:13

This feels like a really mean spirited post. Who cares if she’s insecure and a T-shirt makes her feel better or reminds her she’s enough? There’s no good reason to write a post about how insecure you think a random lady on the street is for wearing a T-shirt. What if she’s not even insecure she just likes reading the sentence 🤷‍♀️

Yorkshirebred · 04/07/2022 11:16

Christ I wouldn't have even noticed her T shirt never mind find it worthy of starting a MN thread about it. I can safely assume this one won't make it the The Daily Fail.

Yorkshirebred · 04/07/2022 11:16

^in to

WildOnce · 04/07/2022 11:17

Good for her. Presumably you’re the kind of person she is in defiance of.

JenniferBarkley · 04/07/2022 11:17

I don't think it advertises insecurity at all, and I think it's a good sentiment that counters so much of the messaging to women that we have to be perfect mothers, employees, housekeepers, athletes, models etc all at once.

Apt that a woman would be judged for stating that principle though Grin

SpidersAreShitheads · 04/07/2022 11:23

I love the sentiment and I strongly disagree that it means she is insecure. If anything she would have to be confident to go out wearing it.

I don’t really like slogan T-shirts myself but as they go, this one is pretty cool.

JaneJeffer · 04/07/2022 11:29

Sounds good to me.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 04/07/2022 11:30

I’d like one that says ‘ I’ve had enough’.

KittenKong · 04/07/2022 11:33

I’m wanting one that says ‘I’ve had enough’. Or maybe ‘I’m As Mad As Hell and I’m Not Gonna Take This Anymore’.

KittenKong · 04/07/2022 11:33

haha snap!

AnybodyAnywhere · 04/07/2022 11:33

I like it and I’d wear it. I am enough for me and if anyone wants more than what I am then it’s up to them 😊

I like it a lot better than a tattoo I saw a couple of weeks back on a woman’s shoulder saying ‘Property of John Smith’ (name changed obviously)

HarryPopper · 04/07/2022 11:35

I like that message and I don't normally like slogan tees.
I think 'Smile' or 'Be Kind' are terrible. Her 'I am enough' slogan is a reminder to the reader that pass her by and a good message to spread in the times of more is more, never good/thin/pretty/rich enough. I don't think it's advertising insecurity at all, it's spreading a good message. It takes confidence to wear stuff like that because some idiot (probably male) will make a comment and try to start a conversation about it.

Christinatherabbit · 04/07/2022 11:40

What a odd thing to even give a second thought about. I wouldn't assume anything (or care) perhaps it's just a comfy t shirt that she thinks fits well and happens to have the words on? I have a couple like that for lounging round the house in that I didn't really care much about what other people might think if I wore when I bought them. Just they were longer sleeved than some other t shirts and were cool and comfortable. Totally bizarre thing to be offended or bothered by to start a debate over with strangers on the Internet.

MattoMatto · 04/07/2022 11:40

I like the sentiment, but I wouldn’t interpret wearing it as a T-shirt signalling low self esteem at all. If anything, the opposite - I find the kind of people who aren’t backwards in coming forwards about their boundaries and emotions aren’t lacking in confidence.

littlegreenheart · 04/07/2022 11:42

I read that as a sort of "back off" message to people automatically assuming that people want certain things that they don't. I have a very happily single, childfree, minimalist, kind of loner friend (she's not antisocial, but is a fairly successful artist and does probably 90% of her work alone in her studio) who I could completely see wearing this, especially if she could find it in a retro Katherine Hamnett FRANKIE SAY RELAX style. She's just turned 30 so she gets an awful lot of "But you musssssst have a boyfriend? Girlfriend? Oh, why noooooooot? Awwwwww. Don't worry, you're great, you'll find someone!" and so on. She says she's bored of all her snappy comebacks and now she just smiles.

(It also crossed my mind that the wearer might have a twin with a shirt that says "I'm too much!")

AngeloMysterioso · 04/07/2022 11:44

What the fuck has it got to do with you?

Drevere · 04/07/2022 11:45

As someone who has not been enough, for anyone, I don't see a problem. I wouldn't wear it as I already know my place. But good on those who don't accept that and wear something to say so.

Aria20 · 04/07/2022 11:46

Better than the t shirt slogan I saw a woman wearing on the school run "MOIST" in bold capitals Confused

P205 · 04/07/2022 11:46

She may not know what it means. I saw a woman on the Tokyo subway wearing a t-shirt which said “I married a nun. I get none in the morning and none at night.” I really don’t think she had a clue what it meant.

I really don’t understand why you’re so upset about this though.

Lindy2 · 04/07/2022 11:48

I think it actually shows confidence rather than low self esteem.

It's a push back against people constantly feeling inferior or needing to be something they're not.

I rather like it.

Cathpot · 04/07/2022 11:50

I say ‘I am enough’ to the kids meaning ‘I’ve had enough (of whatever nonsense) pack it in ‘ , so I would have read that completely differently! And also now realise that what I say when I’m cross possibly only makes sense in my own head.

incornerreading · 04/07/2022 11:50

I feel like there is enough judgment in the world without women judging what other women are wearing.
I also wouldn’t infer someone wearing that is insecure. Even if they were, so what? It isn’t shameful to be insecure.
