We’ve got a lovely new ye olde record player set up!

Now just trying to replace the CDs for good old vinyl (Lord alone knows where they have all gone).

So - for a birthday present - I wanted to start getting the Dylan collection back (between us we had most). Can’t decide where to start…

The Best of Bon Dylan

OhSister · 04/07/2022 10:54

Blonde on Blonde or Blood on the Tracks would be the more obvious choices.

Or, if you intend to eventually have all/most, maybe start with the latest, excellent Rough and Rowdy Ways, and work your way backward from there.

Or, if you're big enough fans to have had almost the whole collection before, you already know all the original release stuff, so treat yourselves to a Bootleg series box set - Springtime in New York and the Rolling Thunder bootleg are both fantastic.

gawd we had these - the bootleg tapes too and some weird import ones (remember scouring Record shops for obscure imports?). They would have been worth a fortune.

Blood on the tracks or blonde on blonde for me.

murasaki · 04/07/2022 12:11

Oh dear, I am obvious! My dad would disown me!

DPotter · 04/07/2022 12:17

Desire

AnnieRich · 04/07/2022 12:18

Blonde on Blonde or Blood on the Tracks for me, too.

KittenKong · 04/07/2022 12:29

I’m putting it out there … Live at Budokan (yes I know it’s a ‘best of’ live…). I had the Japanese release…

Desire

Lindtnotlint · 04/07/2022 12:43

Blood on the Tracks!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/07/2022 12:48

Yet another vote for Blood on the Tracks!

ClaudiusTheGod · 04/07/2022 12:52

Blood on the Tracks… and then everything else

ReeseWitherfork · 04/07/2022 12:58

Desire.

“Bon Dylan” has tickled me.

hoochyhag · 04/07/2022 13:00

Another vote for Desire.

hoochyhag · 04/07/2022 13:00

And then Blood on the tracks ☺️

FrankReynolds · 04/07/2022 13:03

Highway 61 for me. Start of his "rock" period after having been unplugged before this. Desolation Row is the best 11 minutes you'll ever spend with Bob Dylan.

brokengoalposts · 04/07/2022 13:07

Blood on the Tracks but a shout out to Desire as I love Hurricane.

DiamanteDelia · 04/07/2022 13:09

The Times They are A-changing’ or Bringing It All Back Home for me.

My Chemical Romance does a great cover of Desolation Row.

murasaki · 04/07/2022 13:12

True, I do love Hurricane. Sometimes a best of will do the trick as being obvious it covers most of my favourites Grin

Dad is all obscure vinyl from the sixties that none of his daughters are allowed to touch. As is his aged right. I still remember when I borrowed one of his Joni Mitchell LPs as a teenager and had to have a training session on the record player first in case I scratched it....

murasaki · 04/07/2022 13:14

To be fair, it was about 93, so I was not au fait with needles etc.

murasaki · 04/07/2022 13:15

The lonesome death of Hattie Carrol is another favourite

Riapia · 04/07/2022 13:20

Bob Dylan. Blood on the tracks.
Joni Mitchell. The hissing of summer lawns.

These two albums teach all you need to know about song writing.

WrappedLikeCandyInABlueBlueNeonGlow · 04/07/2022 13:23

Probably Blood On The Tracks, but Desire holds a special place in my affections as it was the first serious album I bought.

notprincehamlet · 04/07/2022 13:24

Blonde on blonde - the ghost of electricity howls in the bones of her face ...
And then Desire
