What’s the tiniest thing about your home that you love?

And I do mean tiniest- location, size etc don’t matter. Just the one little thing that makes you smile.

For me, it’s my kitchen window. No matter what the weather is outside, opening that window always seems to just let in the gentlest of breezes.

My porthole window in the area between the kitchen and lounge. It over looks the river and the cat loves to curl up there. Makes me smile evertime I look out it, especially if the swans are out with their babies.

My back door - I am 4 floors up (it’s leads onto an old fashioned fire escape)

It’s glass so I get a great view of tree tops

BertieBotts · 02/07/2022 16:20

Pictures I've taken (mostly of family, some scenery) framed and on the walls. Feels good to have my own creations there.

The unicorn themed mural I painted myself in my daughter's bedroom.

That sounds amazing! Do you have a picture you can share?

Staggersaurus · 02/07/2022 16:23

I love that I can lie in my bed and see the sea. And if I sleep with the window open I can hear it too. All I used to hear in my previous house was the roar of a motorway.

goldfinchonthelawn · 02/07/2022 16:24

Looking out of the kitchen window over the garden where chaffinches, goldfinches, woodeckers, nuthatches, parakeets, squirrels and foxes feed. I love watching the animals and birds come for breakfast early in the morning while I have coffee.

Catlitterqueen · 02/07/2022 16:25

The view out of the lounge window, gorgeous old tree which looks beautiful as it changes with the seasons.

Shoopshoopshoopshoopshoop · 02/07/2022 16:25

The front of my house. I actually dislike most of my house for practical reasons but my DH refuses to move 😞 The front brings me joy though, it’s Georgian and has lovely looking windows, my front door is a nice colours and has a nice heavy brass knocker in the shape of a bee that gets lots of compliments, a nice tiled path, wisteria and a flower bed/pots that I’ve spent a lot of times on.

AltonHampshire · 02/07/2022 16:28

Sense of calm.

rifling · 02/07/2022 16:32

In winter, the afternoon light in my bedroom is perfect. In summer, it is too hot! Also I live in a city, just off a busy road but due to some weird acoustics, it is really quiet at night.

Giggorata · 02/07/2022 16:36

The slate and tiled fireplace.
In another room, my fake fireplace that is really a door.
Being right on a corner, sometimes I can see the whole semi circle of a rainbow from the windows on either side.

Izzabellasasperella · 02/07/2022 16:36

The view from my bedroom window. Every time I see it it's different and amazing.

PumpkinSpicedLatte22 · 02/07/2022 17:09

The huge yellow radiation warning signs, freaks out visitors.

My bedroom window opens outwards like a door which in summer is wonderful

WingingItSince1973 · 02/07/2022 17:22

My fire surround and hearth. Was a bargain from ebay 12 years ago. The surround is painted a muted pink and the fire pit area is full of pine cones and fairy lights. It's part of a false chimney breast my husband built to give the lounge a bit more character x

Devotedcatslave · 02/07/2022 17:28

Having moved from a house where all I could see out of the window was other houses I love seeing sky and trees when I look out the window now.

catwithflowers · 02/07/2022 17:28

So many to choose from as we have just moved and I love this house so much. Inside it would have to be my laundry room! My husband has a lovely big study but I think my little laundry room beats it hands down. I love to iron in there with the puppy watching me from the doorway and while watching reruns of Agatha Christie episodes or Inspector Morse 😂. Very relaxing

Outside it would be the amazing garden 😍

Couldn’t pick just one thing. It’s all of it. The view of the Sidlaw hills from the windows, the smell of roses, honeysuckle and lavender from the garden, the open log fire in winter, my cat curled up on my
late PIL’s antique Persian rug, my new upstairs bathroom (after 40 years of the old one!), the Victorian dressing table bought for a fiver for our old slum tenement flat when DH and I were students… but mainly the lovely memories of living here with DH who died 30 years ago.

Gosh that sounds lovely - you must have many happy memories to look back on with your husband

FayKnights · 02/07/2022 17:31

I have my nan’s 60s dressing table, I use it everyday and love it. It even has a little makeshift shelf my Grandad added, and it makes my heart glad everyday.
What a lovely thread @WafflyVersatileOohOoh

DaphneeBridgerton · 02/07/2022 17:32

Mine is the spot on my living room floor where I gave birth to my daughter - we are currently selling this property and I can’t bear the thought of leaving! Wondering if I can bring some of the floor with me

bare · 02/07/2022 17:34

My pewter door handle on the back door. It wasn't overly expensive but it feels and looks lovely Smile

saveforthat · 02/07/2022 17:36

@lurkingfromhome Same. Sunsets, rainbows and sea view.

Justcashnosweets · 02/07/2022 17:38

My stove and oak mantle.

makingmyway10 · 02/07/2022 17:38

The stone steps leading from the terrace down to the gardens. The smell of the lavender border and the roses from those steps. The view of the gardens, the birdsong , the evenings with drinks on the terrace and the Summer mornings of breakfast on the terrace. It had so much history and I imagine how many other feet have stepped down them and how we are part of the house’s history.

Zoeslatesttrope · 02/07/2022 17:41

These are so evocative, @Babdoc I found yours particularly beautiful to read.

lissie123 · 02/07/2022 17:43

My glass pocket door into my kitchen
