What’s the tiniest thing about your home that you love?

And I do mean tiniest- location, size etc don’t matter. Just the one little thing that makes you smile.

For me, it’s my kitchen window. No matter what the weather is outside, opening that window always seems to just let in the gentlest of breezes.

The tick of our 1940's mantle clock.

gingersplodgecat · 02/07/2022 15:34

The view from my bedroom window of countryside, and horses in a field.

StuckCompletely · 02/07/2022 15:35

It needs a lot of work and updating but I smile everyday that it's ours (mortgaged!). We lived for so many years in insecure rentals with landlords who popped round unannounced (and once that we know of let themselves in while we were out!). It gave me so much anxiety, especially around possibly having to move SEN DC school if we moved. Nothing can beat that feeling for me.

Covered 'verandah' area outside the back door so I can walk to all the bins and the garage without getting wet.

thereisonlyoneofme · 02/07/2022 15:41

Going to lower the tone here, but my downstairs loo!

countvoncount · 02/07/2022 15:43

My library
It's not really a library, it's a spare room with a sofa and a couple of bookcases in
Screens and noise are banned, it's the sweetest spot in the house

MeanderingGently · 02/07/2022 15:52

Coving....real, ornate, moulded plaster coving. It's in every room, including the utility room and the hallway.
I know it's old fashioned to have coving these days but I like it. I've put it up in previous places I've lived in but it's an awkward job and very costly to put up the real thing (as opposed to modern plastic stuff). My place is only a flat but to find it full of gorgeous coving everywhere is just something I delight in!

I love my bed ! Getting into the cold sheets and reading is my heaven.

Orpheline · 02/07/2022 15:55

Coming home, or going out, beautiful stained glass in the front door.

DramaAlpaca · 02/07/2022 15:56

The decking area, with its raised pond, mature trees and ferns surrounding it and lots of lush plants in pots. It's my favourite corner of our garden and is so peaceful, calming and private.

WafflyVersatileOohOoh · 02/07/2022 15:56

I love all of these responses.

@lurkingfromhome, your house sounds like my parents’. I’m constantly seeing rainbows when I visit. I love it.

@Babdoc, your home sounds lovely. I very sorry that you and your husband didn’t get decades more to spend together and enjoy it 💐

The washbasin in the spare room en-suite loo. It always pleases me.

ProseccoStorm · 02/07/2022 15:58

The light in the dining room in the late afternoon.
Beautifully rich and it comes in through big old windows, and the way the room looks and feels is very special. I'm sure I'm the only one to notice it Grin

Mememene · 02/07/2022 15:58

That it is mine and only people who are positive in my life are welcome here. I've just left a relationship my home gives me the freedom to walk away and take no rubbish from any partner in my life. It's a safe zone.

marcopront · 02/07/2022 16:01

The sound the monkeys make when they run over the roof to get to the fruit and watching them jump off the trees.

DarkDarkNight · 02/07/2022 16:02

The storage. I had no storage in my last house and having some decent storage makes me really happy.

There is a good size cloakroom next to the downstairs toilet, then a cupboard on the landing over the stairs that is a full height really good space with the bulkhead bit to the side as well. The under stairs cupboard is full length and the boiler cupboard has plenty of space.

CuriousMariette · 02/07/2022 16:02

Lovely thread OP. Mine’s the little patio DH laid just outside our French doors. It’s just big enough for 2 chairs and a table and next to my favourite flowerbed. I sit there in all weathers, tucked away from the world, and now surrounded by so many pots and plants I can hardly get to the seat. Definitely my happy place.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 02/07/2022 16:04

My bookshelves make me happy but to go even smaller, I have a spoon rest for wooden spoons etc while cooking. A gift and I love it. It came from Spain so looks beautiful.

AliMonkey · 02/07/2022 16:05

In the summer, the flowerbed in front of the kitchen window. In winter, can't decide whether it's the airing cupboard or the utility room (basically the ability to get washing dry without it being flung around the radiators or having to buy a tumble drier).

Parsleys · 02/07/2022 16:06

@WhereTheLightMeetsTheSea thats such a cute image! Smile

WhatInFreshHell · 02/07/2022 16:07

That it's mine, and I feel safe and at peace when I walk through the door. I didn't have that in the last house I lived in. It's small, but perfect for me and DS7 😊

Embarrassed22 · 02/07/2022 16:13

The cockerel on the allotments at the top of the street. He isn't mine but i grew up in farming, and whilst his morning calls piss off the rest of the neighborhood, to me it makes me feel like I'm home at last (after many destabilised years of renting and homelessness).

GarethKeenan · 02/07/2022 16:13

Larder cupboards. I made them myself from two old wardrobes.

Favouritefruits · 02/07/2022 16:13

The dining room ceiling, it’s the original my husband wants to plaster over it but I’ve come to love it! Sorry for the crappy photo it’s the best I could manage with my iPad.

The unicorn themed mural I painted myself in my daughter's bedroom.
