I actually hope Boris refuses to resign. It is going to be hilarious watching the rest of the Tories try to prise him out of No 10 against his will.

Will they need an actual eviction order to remove him and Carrie from the golden flat? Section 21 or Section 8 do we think? Grin

I just saw Clav on "another thread" so she's still raking in the shekels

But the best she could do was quibble about whether Mrs J#1 had actually been diagnosed with cancer at the time when Boris was getting his cock sucked in the Foreign Office. Desperate times for Conservative Central Office, clearly.

That's a particularly interesting one. You would expect lawyers to have a particular regard for justice and the rule of law, but that has been conspicuously lacking in Braverman. When she stays on (as she inevitably will) her lack of basic professional standards will be all the more evident. And I suspect Johnson will struggle to find other lawyers willing to serve under him to take over as Sol Gen.

tobee · 06/07/2022 00:23

Yes I was a bit nonplussed by that @AmaryIlis. Whaddya reckon, batteries need changing?

tobee · 06/07/2022 00:24

(Re Clav)

AmaryIlis · 06/07/2022 00:24

It's really not a great time to have a changeover at the Department of Education. First public exams for three years, Schools Bill going through and being mauled in the process, SEND Green Paper just published, etc etc. But still, who cares about the education of thousands of children and the wellbeing of those with learning disabilities when Boris's career is at stake?

And letting Zahawi bully him into offering him the Chancellorship wasn't a bright move. Zahawi now knows that Johnson is too scared of the prospect of him resigning to stand up to him. But inevitably the next lie or piece of outright corruption and incompetence will come along, and Zahawi will resign anyway. Or maybe he'll just choose to time it very, very carefully for when it will do Boris maximum damage.

AmaryIlis · 06/07/2022 00:26

I think she's more or less given up, @tobee. After all, when you're whole schtick is scouring the internet to try to find examples of Labour doing what Boris is accused of, it must be dispiriting when you can't find any taking blow jobs from their mistresses in the middle of the office day, or condoning a sexual abuser in the Whips' office.

itsgettingweird · 06/07/2022 06:33

Well I've woken up to the headline that another 8 have resigned.

Could today be the day?

ClaudineClare · 06/07/2022 06:39

I think he is going to cling on for a while longer. Why hasn't Pincher stood down as MP yet? PMQs should be interesting.

It will really hurt Johnson's ego to step down and let someone else take over, and we all know that ego is the size of the universe. So, I'm not ruling out Johnson calling a snap election. That way he has a chance of either being given another mandate from the public or taking the whole Tory government down with him.

Oh jgw you naughty naughty thing causing carnage on another thread...

newnamethanks · 06/07/2022 06:52

Has Carrie put in a resignation letter yet? I've got a hospital appointment at 11.30 and will miss PMQs. Feel irrationally disappointed but glad to fit it in while there is an NHS. I expect to arrive back to news of a general election.

Sorry, but it is truly ridiculous to support Boris because he knows what a woman is.

I can only assume that in most cases those who say that, support Boris (because he is a racist misogynist) and think they have found a reason to justify it.

Saucery · 06/07/2022 07:19

The intent by Labour, Greens etc to erode the meaning of the word Women troubles me deeply. But not as much as being lied to repeatedly by Johnson and his cronies. After all, most of them only located their backbone when men were allegedly sexually assaulted by Pincher. Still totally unacceptable but I doubt they would be standing on the moral high ground if it was yet another woman who had been sexually assaulted. Tells me all I need to know about how highly regarded the word ‘women’ really is in the Conservative Party.

cakeorwine · 06/07/2022 07:20

If Tory MPs are not happy with him, maybe they need a 'symbolic' strike - so not voting on a particular matter. Just enough to worry the Government

balalake · 06/07/2022 07:20

The Chancellor, who fleed persecution. Who would probably not be here if the immigration rules Priti Patel has introduced were in place then.

Agree.

And the thing about what a woman is can be fought against whoever is in charge and will be.

Right now we have no hood if fighting against what Johnson dies because he has no morals or understanding of the truth.

itsgettingweird · 06/07/2022 07:27

As an aside. How come Neil Parish suddenly seems to be a voice of reason on all sorts of media outlets after what he did?

And as much as I hate to say it he really comes across well

Just watched Rees-Mogg on Channel 4

Talking about Lord Salisbury who was PM in the 19th Century

Good to see he's as relevant as ever.

Roussette · 06/07/2022 07:30

PMQs should be interesting.

The similarity with Trump is startling. I followed what happened with him since he was nominated and then became POTUS. He also clung on by his fingertips and look what happened there when he was actually voted out. 6th Jan Insurrection.
What on earth is going to happen with us. BJ won't go. He's hanging on in there whatever people think of him and however many resign.

I am sick to death of hearing tory MPs say 'he was elected by the british people and I stand by him'
No, he fucking wasn't.
He was elected by 23,351 of the british population. That's 0.03% and I doubt all of those stand by him now.

Rachel Reeves Shadow Chancellor was good on BBC this morning.

cakeorwine · 06/07/2022 07:32

I noticed Zahawi used the word hindsight again a lot this morning.

YogaLite · 06/07/2022 07:34

I wish someone unravels the full story behind Lebedev's honour....

Certainly. And since he is a member of the government he must support rules that would not allow him into the country anymore, but instead would mean he would put himself at risk in a small boat in the Channel in order to be flown to Rwanda.

Notonthestairs · 06/07/2022 07:39

I'm amused by the Government's messaging this morning - it's basically "we didn't like Sunak anyway, so ner."

itsgettingweird · 06/07/2022 08:08

Oh my.

Watching GMB.

Suddenly music starts blaring out as they are broadcasting outside Westminster

"Bye bye Boris, Boris goodbye" 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Roussette · 06/07/2022 08:15

I have found it funny. We need people like Steve Bray! I'm sure he's a huge annoyance at times but free speech should be valued. On BBC and when Rachel Reeves was being interviewed he held a placard saying...

"Get your Johnson out of our democracy" 😂

Laura Trott PPS just resigned as PPS to Transport

"Trust in politics is - and must always be - of the upmost importance, but sadly in recent months this has been lost. "
