Would no bath tub (just a shower) put you off buying a house?

Looking at redoing our bathroom and have just been to a show room where the sales person seemed insistent baths are a thing of the past. He said 95% of people now only want a shower. DH thinks it might be a good idea to save space/money. But I'm not sure if when we come to hopefully move it would put people off. The sales person almost suggested the other way that a bath would put people off the house.

Just wanted to know if it would put you off?

Yes it would. It doesn't get used all the time but I love a hot bath in the winter after a wintery walk. Having sold houses for a living I find most families with young children like to have a bath in a house too.

Shedcity · 29/06/2022 17:18

Sales person is selling.
I’d take anything they say with a pinch of salt.

i would view a house without a bath if it had room for a bath and it was priced with the understanding that I’d likely have to change the bathroom.

dh and I only shower but a family home needs a bath for DC - I suppose it depends on your family set up and who you’ll sell to

SilverGlassHare · 29/06/2022 17:20

I’m not bothered about baths myself but my DC still has one at bedtime and DH likes one occasionally. So it would put us off.

Yes. It would put me off.

hiredandsqueak · 29/06/2022 17:26

It would put me off because I love a bath and have one most days only choosing to shower when I'm in a rush or if it's in addition to a bath later in the day.

ResentfulLemon · 29/06/2022 17:31

No bath is a faff but not a deal breaker as long as you have the space to add one back in. If you're thinking of selling in the future you could take really good photos now of how the bathroom looks with a bath in place so prospective buyers can be confident that they can have one plumbed in and how it could look/work.

I agree with others that you should have your house set up in a way that works for you, not for imaginary families in the future.

CallOnMe · 29/06/2022 17:36

No home I have ever lived in (rented) have had baths but lots of family and friends don’t have showers.

I prefer showers and would choose them over a bath most of the time but I would like the option to have a bath if I want one.

Id buy a house if there was room to put a bath in somewhere but don’t think I would if there wasn’t.

Ohtoberoavingagain · 29/06/2022 17:37

I’d much rather have a big shower space than a bath. I think I’ve used the bath in my house twice in 3 years.

Dozycuntlaters · 29/06/2022 17:38

Yes big time. I love a bath so no I wouldn't but a house without a bath unless it was my dream house and I felt it was worth paying to get into fitted.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/06/2022 17:39

Def puts me off even when renting!

LaWench · 29/06/2022 17:43

We're taking the bath out in favour of a large shower. There could be room to squeeze a bath in too but I don't think it would be worth it for us, the bath was used once a month maximum.

Hardtobelieve123 · 29/06/2022 17:44

I love a bath. My kids do too.

if the house has space to put one in then it wouldn’t put me off looking at it or even buying it for the right price

imsureineverdo · 29/06/2022 17:49

It would (and has) totally put me off.

fhe274 · 29/06/2022 17:51

2 showers and no bath here. Not a problem at all, and if we do decide at some point that we want a bath, we'll just put one in (previous owners changed the bath for a large shower cubicle, so there's definitely a suitable space).

Roselilly36 · 29/06/2022 17:52

My advice would be to put in what suits you most, when you come to sell, most buyers would be able to put in a bath if that is what they wanted.

Kitten2 · 29/06/2022 17:53

Yeah I looked at houses but knew we needed a bath with the kids and that it would be extra hassle to install one so it was something on my 'must have' list.

Upstairs bathroom was a must too.

Redglitter · 29/06/2022 17:54

I'd love a bathroom with no shower. I'd choose that every time

I think though as pp said it really depends on how long you plan on living there. If you plan on staying for a while then do the house to suit you, not some imaginary future buyer

If I could afford to I'd have my bath removed

Dic · 29/06/2022 17:54

You need a new salesperson. He's lying to you.

I have ruled out properties with no baths before. I wouldn't buy one.

Yodaisawally · 29/06/2022 17:55

If I still had small kids it would but personally I hate baths, haven't had one for about 20 years. No one else uses it either in our house.

Cornishclio · 29/06/2022 17:57

We replaced our Bath with walk in shower as we never used the bath. We don't intend to sell soon though.

warofthemonstertrucks · 29/06/2022 17:57

We just sold out house with no bath with no issue at all

Pleaseletmeconfirm · 29/06/2022 17:57

It wouldn't me off but how about you put in the plumbing for a bath but not install it so that you could tell potential buyers that it would be easy to fit a bath.

Cornishclio · 29/06/2022 17:58

It wouldn't put me off if no bath.

C152 · 29/06/2022 17:58

Yes, no bath would put me off a property.

girlmom21 · 29/06/2022 17:59

It wouldn't put me off if there were showers but a bath with no shower would put me off.

I have a toddler and a baby and we'd cope without a bath if we loved the house.
