Redactle - THE HINTS THREAD

BIWI · 29/06/2022 09:32

Given how difficult it is to offer hints for redactle, without giving it away/being too obvious, this is a specific thread for hints.

Doesn't mean that they should give the game away, but it just stops other players seeing the hint every time they access the main thread.

So from now on, just keep your stats and general comments on the main thread and come here for any hints!

@ErrolTheDragon Road Rage was a hit by the band "Catatonia"

cumbriaumbria · 01/11/2022 21:36

Anyone got a hint for today, I'm getting nowhere

AuntieStella · 01/11/2022 21:45

I found this one difficult because I would have put a hyphen after the first four letters of the target word. Which is probably just me getting it wrong for years! But I mention it because it gives you a bit of an idea of how the target word is constructed

The general area is a suppose a type of world-picture (I'm trying not to use words that feature much in the text). Does that help at all?

BIWI · 01/11/2022 21:47

@cumbriaumbria do you have an idea as to what it's about though?

A clue I can give you is that the title is a word I expected would normally be hyphenated. However, in the third section down, the same word (a noun) is hyphenated.

A quick Google shows that it can be either.

@cumbriaumbria Some mail that's really up to date, as a subject.

cumbriaumbria · 01/11/2022 21:49

Ah got it, thank you all! I went off on the wrong track completely at first.

BIWI · 01/11/2022 21:50

It has to be said, the whole piece reads like it should be in Private Eye's Pseud's Corner!

Frustratingly I had the word hyphenated quite early on, then went off on a tangent

I'm struggling to get to grips with the topic today. Please may I have a hint?

Boopear · 02/11/2022 21:28

You find it in a yard. Or a sea.

@InMySpareTime thank you, that really helped 🤗

dapsnotplimsolls · 03/11/2022 18:57

If anyone needs a hint - Desmond and Penny.

InMySpareTime · 03/11/2022 19:45

@dapsnotplimsolls I have solved both Redactle and Pedantle (although I know nothing about the Pedantle subject) and can't see how that clue works.

InMySpareTime · 03/11/2022 19:47

Ah. Just Googled those names, it's not something I've ever seen so it went over my head.

dapsnotplimsolls · 03/11/2022 19:48

Yes, sorry, it's a bit niche :)

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/11/2022 20:00

also googled the names, now i know the answer! lost

I can't yet see the connection to today's Redactle!

InMySpareTime · 03/11/2022 21:23

@MrsElm I think it's through the name of an episode

Ah, I see. I never watched it.

But got the redactle the usual way, getting enough words to Google a phrase.

Having never heard of Desmond and Penny either, but read this - oddly enough could apply to todays pedantle too.

(Though that one, combined with another of the same ilk, reminds me more of somewhere I might get lost. Which may well be an even more unhelpful clue.Grin)

GoldenCupidon · 04/11/2022 12:16

I ended up doing what I often do when desperate and trying to fill in the individual letters until something occurs to me.

dapsnotplimsolls · 04/11/2022 19:00

Anyone got a hint for today's please? I've got the second word but I'm stuck on the first word.

InMySpareTime · 04/11/2022 19:11

@dapsnotplimsolls some things never change...
