Need a tux for DS - pronto!

After much nagging and cajoling he (17) tried on his suit and it doesn’t fit…

So I need to help him find an evening suit for Monday…

I had a look online last night and hire places seem to need much longer to organise this (what a shocker!). Even M&S don’t have any in his size in stock (he’s on the small side).

he’d rock up in surfer shorts and a T-shirt of left up to him…

anyone got any bright ideas? I’m sure there are high st shops that sell them but I have no idea what the quality is like (but any port in a storm I suspect at this stage). I have seen some online rental places but it’s all done online so no wiggle room if they’re don’t fit.

Primark or Asda?

SoupDragon · 29/06/2022 08:13

I'm sure both DSs got theirs from Moss Bros.

KittenKong · 29/06/2022 08:15

I tried there but they were saying mid next week is soonest. Unless there is a huuuuge one with lots of suits in stocks and ready to go? Covent Garden one?

DS2 had an ordinary suit from River Island that lasted 6th form so must have been reasonable quality.

Amazon

NerrSnerr · 29/06/2022 08:16

Can you ask on a local FB group if anyone has one you can buy/ borrow? If it's anything like my area people will be offering their son's old, grown out of suits for free.

Vinted and pay extra for faster delivery?

Primark or Asda?

We don’t have an Asda near and - well, to be honest there are quite a lot going who are a bit… snobby. They’d faint if they saw a Primark label. I’m kidding (not really). There’s only one kid in the year not going.

bugger.

Does the website have click and collect or a "check stock" option?

Any Slaters stores nearby or within travelling distance? They are usually fab for walking in, saying “I need xyz type of suit/shirt/tie/whole outfit” and coming out same day with everything you need as they measure everything, match everything up and can do minor alterations quickly. They also have a good set of videos and guides for self measuring and buying online.

Failing that, self measure and buy from Next online with next day delivery? We’ve done that in a pinch and got everything matching in the right sizes (using a mix of Next size guides and the Slaters videos mentioned above to help)

KittenKong · 29/06/2022 08:26

Slaters! My dad used to get his ‘slacks and jackets’ from a branch in Glasgow!

Local charity shops.

Does it have to be a tux?

If school prom, anything goes. Mine had Next suits and wore them in 6th form.

Inlovewitharagorn · 29/06/2022 08:32

Where do you live?
If there is an outlet mall near you then that could be a good idea.
We bought one recently for about 1/4 normal cost from our nearest outlet centre.
eBay often has loads as well and might be prepared to do a buy it now if you ask. I have bought a couple of "worn once" suits for less than £20 from there...

carrotsnotsticks · 29/06/2022 08:33

m and s click and collect .
or John Lewis Kin

ASOS have lots of suits. If his size isn't in stock, put an email notification on and usually the item in back in stock quite quick

motogirl · 29/06/2022 08:36

Mataram sometimes have them. Dp's is M&S though

User79865765 · 29/06/2022 08:46

Asos generally have loads, particularly in smaller sizes

nowtygaffer · 29/06/2022 09:15

I got my DS's from Matalan, cost about £80 in total and is lovely quality.

angieloumc · 29/06/2022 09:19

As pp suggested River Island. My DD works weekends there and she said the Leeds one has lots of suits so if you're in London (with you mentioning Covent Garden) a store there should have plenty.

CMOTDibbler · 29/06/2022 09:27

ASOS do next day delivery, and my ds got a beautiful French Connection tux from there, very reasonably. I wouldn't normally advise doing Klarna, but you could order jacket and trousers in a couple of sizes and then send back what doesn't fit immediatly without a lot spent out.

GoAndAskDaddy · 29/06/2022 09:29

I was in the same position as last week… Next do next day delivery.

A few of the smaller sizes are in stock or within 3 days delivery.
