I was being curious today so looked up my GP record as I'm on antibiotics yet again
Since 2006 I've had 39 courses Blush

Seriously????

I had sepsis in 2007 and had some heavy duty ones by drip then. Not sure what, was a bit out of it.

I had a 3 day course in Xmas 2018 for a UTI, that’s it.

im allergic to penicillin though and very aware of only taking them in emergency though. My friend honestly has at least a batch a month I think.

RJnomore1 · 22/06/2022 23:41

Sorry - I don’t really remember prior to 2007 but I’ve never had them often.

Redglitter · 22/06/2022 23:44

I took them daily for 3 years so quite a lot

I have several courses a year and have had them iv in hospital

Kidney problems just keep giving 🙄

Hardly any because I'm allergic to most of them. I think one lot intravenously last year and one course by tablet in 2005.

Otherwise, none since I've been an adult.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 22/06/2022 23:46

I don't know what I had as a child, but as an adult I've had one course, for sinusitis sometime in the early 1990s.

I used to work with a few people who seemed to regularly be on antibiotics, often for chest infections when they had a cold, so I used to think I was odd for never being on them.

RJnomore1 · 22/06/2022 23:47

Oh I lie. I had some last year for covid. Not covid itself but the secondary infection it caused. Again, bit out of it at the time. They made me so ill too in different ways, ended up with thrush to top it off. My commiserations to the poor daily for 3 yearcposters.

DockOTheBay · 22/06/2022 23:47

Once in my life

IsDaveThere · 22/06/2022 23:47

A 3 day course a couple of years ago for a UTI, other than that I can't remember having any for donkey's years.

Driftingonawave · 22/06/2022 23:50

some for a mouse bite and some for a (god awful) ear infection In the last 20 years as an adult. I feel like they were handed out like candy as a small child. Always seemed to leave with some from the doctors.

NannyWeatherWitch · 22/06/2022 23:51

Other than a few doses as a child for ear infections. I had an unknown infection a few years ago, hospitalised me for a few days and I had several lots of antibiotics (3 I think)
id say maybe 8 lots in my adult life. Definitely not into double digits as an adult.

Carrotzen · 22/06/2022 23:52

I think 5, but 3 were for the same bastard UTI. Then one chest infection and an infected ear piercing when I was a teenager

But it's kind of irrelevant because there are many people who will need antibiotics frequently because of their medical history, so I'm not sure what there is to gain from this thread

WeAllHaveWings · 22/06/2022 23:59

Obviously dont know how much as a child, but late teens had some for a bad throat infection which is when I found out I was allergic to pencillian. Then had 2-3 courses trying different types for a bad ear infection in my early 40s. Mid 50s now and havent had any for years.

Ds(18) has had them 3 times (one uti, one ear infection, badly infected insect bite). DH, I don't remember him ever having any.

The dog has had more in the last 10 years than the rest of us put together!

Babdoc · 23/06/2022 00:02

Two courses in 66 years. Once for severe sinusitis, in 1983, once for a strep throat in 1990.
When I was a child, back in the 1950s/60s, I only ever saw a doctor for measles, chicken pox and a broken arm - my parents would never have consulted for a child’s mere cough or earache. We were just told to stop coughing as the noise annoyed them.

purplepaintedpineapple · 23/06/2022 00:02

Probably once or twice in 50 years...

MolliciousIntent · 23/06/2022 00:05

I don't know if I had them as a child (but I think not because I was never I'll) but I've had 3 courses of antibiotics in the past 20 years, all for UTIs.

XenoBitch · 23/06/2022 00:05

One for an STD, two for dental infections, multiple for ones related to self harm.

AffIt · 23/06/2022 00:05

I think about four times? Most recently in December for a dental abscess, but that, I think, was the first time in about 15 years (I'm 43).

DramaAlpaca · 23/06/2022 00:08

As a child in the 60s/70s, loads I'm sure. As an adult, a handful of times only.

My eldest DC had them a few times in childhood for nasty ear infections, plus a couple of times for tonsillitis as an adult.

DC2 and DC3, once each for ear infections as children.

waterlego · 23/06/2022 00:08

I can’t remember the last time I had to take any. Have probably had them a handful of times as an adult. Maybe 5 or so times though struggle to remember what for. Definitely had them twice for a pilonidal sinus for which I’d had a minor procedure, and once for an abscess, so skin problems in both cases.

CarburyChocolateRules · 23/06/2022 00:09

So you need them every 4 to 5 months? Thats alot

shreddednips · 23/06/2022 00:14

So many times 😖 I keep coming down with tonsillitis and chest infections, I think I've had at least five courses so far this year. Ive ended up in hospital a couple of times over the years with these infections and it's a nightmare.

I'm having some investigations as I also have terrible fatigue and joint pain- I was investigated a while ago because it was thought I had an autoimmune disorder but all the tests came back clear apart from slightly raised inflammatory markers. Goodness knows what's wrong with me!

Yeah I have a condition which causes abscesses so I'm on a course for that at the minute
Had tonsillitis a few weeks ago which needed two courses
Immunocompromised

MonChienEstUneLégende · 23/06/2022 00:19

I remember having them when I was a child, but I’ve definitely not needed any since I was 16, probably years before that.

That seems a lot OP, but depends on your health and any conditions you have.

Floralnomad · 23/06/2022 00:19

I get recurrent UTIs so I regularly take a 3 /5 day course probably at least every 6-8 weeks .

Nosy, can't sleep and hadn't seen it as a question asked before Grin
