Definitely U2 - lucky enough to see them twice & it was epic!

Anyone out there??

Weirdly enough, The Monkees (second time around, I'm not that old!) at Hammersmith Palais. Brilliant night! I saw U2 at Croke Park and they were amazing but it was the night after Diana died so it was a muted audience. Also Genesis, Oasis, Michael Jackson, the Stones, Paul McCartney, and too many more to mention.

Muse! I think I’ve seen them about 20 times now. Best gig was 2008 at Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust where I knew the words to every single song and obviously it’s a superb venue.
As the years have rolled past, I know less of the newer stuff but they played Hammersmith Apollo a couple of months ago and it was packed full of the old hits.
Brilliant!

Agree @Clickncollect! Muse aren’t necessarily my favourite band (that’s Pulp), but they are definitely the best band I’ve seen live. They are such excellent, polished musicians, and they really do put on a show what with all the special effects, lasers etc. Wr were lucky enough to see them in Lisbon in the summer, at an open air venue right next to the water. Very memorable indeed.

ShandaLear · 22/06/2022 10:29

The Killers, but I knew they were going to be brilliant. The one that surprised me was Two Door Cinema Club at the O2. I knew who they were but really went because my DP wanted to go. I didn’t realise they were huge. They blew the roof off - absolutely brilliant. The graphics weren’t some sort of afterthought; they were an integral part of the show and really pulled the whole thing up to a new level. They were just really tight and ‘on it’. The crowd were ready to hit the floor and the atmosphere was electric. Would definitely go back.

Minisarerustbuckets · 22/06/2022 10:30

Wham at the Glasgow Apollo 1985(my first gig - that lad could sure sing ) . The Pogues at The Barrowlands ,Glasgow 1987(Kirsty McColl came on near the end and it was amazing🥰!), My Bloody Valentine at the Barras Revue 1988, Pulp sometime in the 90s and can't think of anyone else . Too many to remember as I loved /love gigs. Not been to one since before the pandemic.

Hyperion100 · 22/06/2022 10:34

Another vote for Muse - absolutely incredible showmen, epic tunes and such a mixed crowd.

StuckCompletely · 22/06/2022 10:35

I'm not a fan of Muse, went with a friend who had a spare ticket , but they were absolutely amazing live. I was blown away! I've not really listened to them since, but that gig has stuck in my mind from the countless ones I've been too!

Clickncollect · 22/06/2022 10:37

@waterlego Wow, the Lisbon venue sounds amazing. And yes, I agree, they are very polished and put on a great show.
I just remembered another gig of theirs which really stood out. They played their hometown of Teignmouth back in 2009 and I was there. It was basically their local park on the seaside so it felt extra special.

MintyGreenDreams · 22/06/2022 10:41

Pink

Nevernottrying · 22/06/2022 10:56

Imagine Dragons. Incredible energy and crowd interaction.

That sounds brilliant. A band playing in their hometown is always going to be a special gig.

I know I’ve already picked Muse as my favourite, but I also want to mention Turin Brakes who I went to see just before the pandemic. I’m not really a ‘fan’ as such, as in, I wouldn’t really just listen to their music at home but my DH really likes them. The gig was at a small venue in my town, with a small audience so plenty of space. The band were right in front of us; it was like having a band perform in your own lounge. They too are excellent musicians with not a note out of place throughout. They also seemed to genuinely enjoy performing these songs that they released 20 odd years ago, rather than doing that ‘going through the motions’ thing that some bands do when they play old hits.

SmokingTeaPot · 22/06/2022 11:06

Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls are my ultimate favourite (I've seen them upwards of 25 times!) but a close second is Green Day who are currently touring and I cannot WAIT to see them again in a few days. They always put on an absolutely incredible show!

Cdl84 · 22/06/2022 11:09

The Darkness

Oldandcobwebby · 22/06/2022 11:14

The Smiths - Salford Uni 1986. The band was on their home turf in a small venue, and the crowd were really up for it. Totally unforgettable.

Crankley · 22/06/2022 12:38

Queen.

RollOnWinter · 22/06/2022 12:39

The Rolling Stones, 1990 I think it was, at Wembley stadium. Magnificent.

FooFighter99 · 22/06/2022 12:44

Foo Fighters (obviously) in 2007 and 2008, both times in Manchester, and they were awesome 🤘

That's when and where I saw them. 32 years ago. 😱

takemetomars · 22/06/2022 13:35

Queen with Adam Lambert Lat weekend. Bloody brilliant
Foo fighters, Genesis, Biffy Clyro, the Boss are all great on stage.
I am a Pearl Jam fan but their gigs are always disappointing Confused

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 22/06/2022 13:51

So wish I’d seen Queen live!

David Bowie Milton Keynes 1990

Opening night of Rolling Stones world tour 2003, Munich

Tony Bennett Royal Albert Hall 2003

Pink Martini Royal Albert Hall 2016

Lakeyloo · 22/06/2022 14:24

Another vote for Muse here. Never been particularly into them but saw them at the IOW Festival on Sunday and they smashed it ! Linkin Park were pretty amazing. The Killers, Queen & Adam Lambert. Stereophonics are excellent live.

theDudesmummy · 22/06/2022 14:26

Stereophonic opened for the Stones in the 2003 Munich show I mentioned above. Definitely part of why it was such a memorable show, they were fantastic.
