Definitely U2 - lucky enough to see them twice & it was epic!

Bastille - without a date, seen them live six times!

Energy, crowd engagement and musical replication - second to none!

Just mind blowingly AWESOME 😎

RevoltingHumanHead · 22/06/2022 14:30

Afghan Whigs.

GriseldaClement · 22/06/2022 14:32

Depeche Mode, my brother takes me as he’s a big fan but they are mesmerising live.

The first date I had with my now husband was seeing The Rolling Stones at Madison Square Garden in New York, with Alannis Morissette supporting.

It was absolutely amazing, something that I don’t think I’ll ever top.

CherryRipe1 · 22/06/2022 14:35

The Smiths, Clash,. The Cure, Pulp, Pogue Mahone. Too many but can't choose!

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 22/06/2022 14:36

There's a few that stuck in my mind

Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) in one of the smaller tents at T in the Park. He was amazing although I'm not sure he knew where he was, looked like he was on automatic pilot

Cindi Lauper - I wasn't a huge fan but she was great

Pink - have seen her numerous times and she always puts in a great show. Still don't know how she manages to sing so well whilst hanging upside down!

Billy Joel - I've been to a lot of gigs but was just absolutely starstruck when we saw him. Just kept saying "that's actual Billy Joel"!

Defender90 · 22/06/2022 14:48

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.

Foo Fighters, Nathaniel Rateliffe & The Night Sweats and Stereophonics would have to fight it out for a close second!!

Ilovedthe70s · 22/06/2022 14:55

Queen
Roy Orbison
Bruce Springsteen
Meatloaf
Bay City Rollers, purely sentimental, my first ever concert when I was 12/13

So many others but these were stand out

stayathomer · 22/06/2022 14:56

Muse and Coldplay and REM (I can’t pick one!!)

RaininginDarling · 22/06/2022 14:56

Great question but tough! There are so many crackers but a few stick in my mind for various reasons:
Journey at Hammersmith Odeon. Pre-Glee shudders at Glee Saw them a few times sadly not with Steve Perry, the original (and irreplaceable) singer.

Bon Jovi in '86 - first gig.

Soundgarden pre-first album at, I think, the Marquee (late 80s)

Art Garfunkel - Glastonbury 2016. He started with Bright Eyes and everybody had a tear in their eye. It was hit after hit from then on in. (Best stage is the Acoustic stage)

David Lee Roth - I saw him three times during the Skyscraper tour and he was amazing. Sexist, a bit of a wrong un, but he really knew how to put on a show.

Prodigy at Brixton - not my cup of tea normally but I was dragged along. It was fantastic

Motley Crue at Wembley - how are they still alive? How can they still sound so good?

Finally, Coldplay Sunday headliner at Glastonbury 2016. I rolled my eyes when I saw them on the bill AGAIN, not really a band I get excited about but the party atmosphere that Sunday night (after a tough, muddy, brexit-filled weekend), left us on a total feel-good, light-filled high. Still think they're the audio equivalent of magnolia paint but I can at least appreciate why they are festival favourites now

Isseywith3witchycats · 22/06/2022 14:57

iron maiden, lynard skynard, Alice Cooper, selecta and the specials have been ones thaat stand out at a bike rally the dead daisies and massive wagons were both awesome

NightmareSlashDelightful · 22/06/2022 15:01

Bands -- Metallica, Rammstein, Goldfrapp, Blondie, Depeche Mode. And, perhaps surprisingly, Girls Aloud.

Solo -- Beverley Knight, Tori Amos, Grace Jones, Kylie, Prince, Cher, Peter Gabriel.

The Darkness

I second this!

Worldgonecrazy · 22/06/2022 15:10

So many great live bands - all the usual suspects such as Prince, Whitney, George Michael, David Bowie,. I got to see hundreds of gigs in my misspent youth!

There are still some great live acts such as Midge Ure and OMD. Blancmange are pretty good live too, and The Beat with Rankin Junior are great fun.

My best gig ever was earlier this year, Simple Minds at Bournemouth. I got to ask a question during sound check, and we danced like we were 18 again all through the soundcheck and the show, and had great interaction with the band, so it felt like they were playing just for us . Took us a week to come down from that high!

So there are great live bands, and then there are truly special gigs, and those don’t always coincide.

SisterRuth · 22/06/2022 15:10

The Saw Doctors - every one of the hundred or so times I've seen them. At one Irish festival in Cardiff years ago, Van Morrison was the headline act but he knew he couldn't top the Saw Doctors and went on before them so they could close the show. Magical band.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 22/06/2022 16:25

Forgotten I’d seen Van Morrison - brilliant musically but barely interacted with the crowd sadly.
Also loved The Dubliners at The Mean Fiddler in Harlesden. The Irish sure know how to party! DH & I went to Kerry for our honeymoon & loved all the live music in the pubs every night.

Rammstein - always excellent
Alice Cooper - what a show!
Def Leppard - impeccable rock cheese
Rage Against the Machine - never to be repeated, unfortunately

Omg you saw the Bay City Rollers. 12 year old me is so envious!

absolutelynotfabulous · 22/06/2022 16:39

Another Saw Doctors fan here! Ive lost count of how many times I've seen them. Bloody brilliant.

CatrinVennastin · 22/06/2022 16:40

Dolly Parton! At Wembley arena about 13 years ago.

my mum is a huge fan so we got tickets for her plus me and my sister and sis in law.

Dolly was on for 2 1/2 hours, no support band.

she talked about her life and the inspiration for her songs and played about 5 different instruments,

we were blown away and my mum was basically “told you so”!

ArcheryAnnie · 22/06/2022 16:45

Bloody loved The Specials.

Used to also love The Police in my extreme youth. They did a fantastic live show, even in their early proto-punk days.

Saw Hugh Masakela just in the run-up to the first SA democratic elections, which was v special.

Accidentally saw U2 - they were the support band at a Police gig. I had no idea who they were, but thought Bono was very bombastic for a support act, although I enjoyed it. We were in the front row (at a stand-up stadium gig with about 25 thousand people behind us) and one of our fellow front-row fans actually left at that point as U2 were the band she'd come to see.

The Rolling Stones (rough guess 1980? I was still at school) were at the top of their game.

IanOsenfrote · 22/06/2022 17:14

I have only ever been to one live concert and that was to see Tina Turner at the Don Valley Stadium in 1996. I'm not one for concerts as I don't really do crowds but my girlfriend at the time wanted to go and, as she paid, I went along with it.

I can tolerate Ms Turner but I wouldn't say I was a fan. I have to admit that I was very impressed. She sang all the ones I liked and she sounded just like she does on the records. Her support act was Toto and they too were very good, singing the three songs of theirs that I know, Africa, Hold the line and Rosanna.

All in all, a good night and the after-concert entertainment when we got home was also very good.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 22/06/2022 10:14

Anyone out there??

This should be, 'Is there anybody out there?' cos it's Pink Floyd. Wall. Berlin.

piperatthegates · 22/06/2022 17:22

Queen both with Freddie and Adam Lambert. Saw them again yesterday at the 02 and they were amazing as always. Also David Essex and Genesis (showing my age )😂

Usou · 22/06/2022 17:24

David Bowie 1973
Deep Purple around same time.
Queen - Night at the Opera tour (75?)
Stranglers also good 1977.

Saw Bay City Rollers but was unmoved.
