Never heard this conspiracy theory

Had a woman in a coffee shop tell me that we all have a pot of gold that the government keep from us and it is worth our birth weight. Never heard this one before? Glad I was a nine pounder baby though!
Wish it was true but she also told me the real Putin is dead and the one we see now is an avatar! Conspiracy theories are bonkers!

How would that work? So for every baby born someone arranged for the gold to be potted at exactly that baby's birth weight? What for and why? Do they ever spend it or is it just sat there with our names on it?

KnitOnePearlOneDropOne · 18/06/2022 23:22

Well that's me done for then. I was 5 wweks prem.

maturestudent74 · 18/06/2022 23:23

She said it was something to do with how cold was distributed and everyone in the world has a pot. Something to do with common law equity and that we should not be paying council tax or income tax. I did not quite understand it and she told me to good CDQ! However it's in French! It alarmed me as there is a big group of people in my area who believe this and they have all stopped paying government bills.

Sorry - predictive text. Google it!

Well that’s a new one! Totally bizarre.

I did a google to see if there’s a similar conspiracy theory she’s misunderstood, and all I found was something about leprechauns each having their own pot of gold.

Did she look like a leprechaun by any chance?

HotHeatDays · 18/06/2022 23:28

New one on me.

What did you google to find it in French? I might be able to understand it.

How would anyone on PAYE stop paying tax?

Why would you even listen to that woman? She sounds completely bonkers.

hoohaaar · 18/06/2022 23:35

I don't know anything about this either, but...

My Dad came over the other day (massively in to his conspiracy theories). Told me something similar to what you've heard. He mentioned Common law & claiming back his Birth Certificate which now means he no longer needs to pay certain bills.

He tells me that if I claim my BC back that I can stop paying my electricity bill and that they can't cut off my electric unless I answer the door and admit to who I am.

I asked if he had done it and he said he was "just checking a few final things" before doing it. Erm, so encouraging me to try that out but hasn't done it himself? 😂

I'm assuming he's just been on more conspiracy theory websites and likes the sound of that one! I'd be beyond chuffed if it turns out to be true though 😂.

Georgeskitchen · 18/06/2022 23:36

Methinks she is talking out of her arse!!

maturestudent74 · 18/06/2022 23:38

I can't find it! She said people born after 1933 when the system changed are entitled to it. She gave me a note with details on andwill dig it out of my handbag! I did not know what to say so just took it!

Well if all those people in your area believe it and have stopped paying any tax then you must live in a weird place. They will get chased for not paying council tax and income tax, their possessions can be seized and salary docked. Not paying utilities will result in debt collection or being cut off.
And anyway it's not logical in the slightest.

I just wondered if anyone had heard! Yes it's bonkers but not one I have heard before.

This is it! She said you don't have to pay government bills. Just utility bills. Sounds like a similar thing! She reckoned the government nicked all the gold in 1933. She was an elderly lady and it is scary how she has been taken in!

Sounds like ‘freeman of the land’ type bollocks.
it’s a complete non-starter, and people who believe come to a sticky end in court.

SwedishEdith · 18/06/2022 23:47

Whenever anyone posts about Freeman of the Land, Common Law and Magna Carta crap, it's usually a klaxon for FOTL cranks to turn up.

Cog1972 · 18/06/2022 23:48

I once got talking to a man in a bar who was convinced that the government has your actual birth certificate and they are traded on the stock exchange. That’s why your birth certificate says ‘registered copy’. I said I’d look on my Bloomberg terminal when I was next in work to find this market for birth certificates 😂

dropthevipers · 18/06/2022 23:52

proper tin foil hat one that.

Sliceofpi · 18/06/2022 23:52

I mean the flaw in that, is that who would be interested in buying some randoms birth certificate,

WinnieTheWinsomeWitch · 18/06/2022 23:55

It’s part of the Freeman on the Land bollocks. Complex, bizarre and roundly debunked in any courts they are brought to. Ignore, and don’t try to engage because they are utterly convinced they’re right and will drive you mad trying to argue with them, especially if you try to use facts.

CushtyCushty · 18/06/2022 23:59

It sounds like an old wives tale to explain the saying "worth their weight in gold" maybe?

LetHimHaveIt · 19/06/2022 00:14

Jesus Christ. Heavily reminiscent of the loopy hairdresser insisting Magna Carta meant she didn't have to close her salon. Bag-of-frogs-level loopy.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 19/06/2022 00:37

Totally FOTL bollocks. It's very entertaining. It veers off into nonsense with Magna Carta and common law and then gets dafter with each layer

It is quite scary that these people walk amongst us.

Their lives must be exausting.
