How many more ways to fuck up the country can this government invent?

I’m 58 and have never ever seen a government so full of lying, corrupt twats who just don’t give a shit.

And as l grew up under Thatchet l think that’s saying something! It’s like a horror show watching them.

I was poor under blair and brown as well so who is any better that is the issue ?

That isn’t the issue at all. Whether or not you feel poor is beside the point, do you want a government led by a serial liar and populated by greedy bastards who’ll do whatever’s expedient to line their pockets? Or do you want a government that’s genuinely working for the good of the country?

Eeksteek · 16/06/2022 15:01

I’m poor under this government. I’m widowed, and they’ve reduced widows pensions to an almost meaningless level. I live on about half minimum wage, and don’t qualify for UC because I live on investments from my late husband. I will have to use them for living on while my child is young and I’m retraining, and will have no savings or investments to replace his income, even though we planned well.

I’ve also worked in the NHS under Blair, Brown and the current lot and it was much more effective when I started out. Now, it’s barely holding on.

Eeksteek · 16/06/2022 15:08

I came to say that Johnson’s ETHICS ADVISOR has reportedly resigned because a proposed deliberate and planned breach of parliamentary code to further political gain has made his position untenable.

  1. He even HAD an ethics advisor? Wow - he must have been either the most impotent or frustrated chap in government.

  2. What the fuck had he been asked to condone that is so much more unethical than the catalogue of crap up to now, that the man resigned? How can it be worse than lying to the queen and illegally poroging parliament to get Brexit through? How? Surely it’s in the public interest to know?

user1497787065 · 16/06/2022 16:04

I've always voted conservative and live in an area where the choice has always been Conservative v Lib Dem. I don't believe that The Lib Dems are electable but would struggle to vote Conservative again under Boris. He has managed to elect a cabinet of complete and utter morons.

I'm not sure Labour under Keir Starmer is appealing but Wes Streeting or Lisa Nandy leading would be an entirely different party.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/06/2022 16:11

I'm loving the chaos.😁

Peregrina · 16/06/2022 16:38

I am enjoying the chaos in the sense that I hope it destroys the Tory party, but I am not enjoying what it's doing to the country. There are so many problems which need to be tackled and aren't being while this rabble fight among themselves.

Haha, yes this is amazing. Whatever next 🤣

That sums up my feelings perfectly. I’ve reached the point of being a bit scared now, though.

LizzieSiddal · 16/06/2022 16:52

The latest news is that Johnson is looking at whether or not he actually needs an ethics advisor. Angry

I feel helpless and scared by this man.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 16/06/2022 16:59

My fucking mother is on that bench. Honestly, words fail me. We silently agreed not to mention it again after I told her that BoZo is a disgrace to the role of PM!

Thatcher may not have been many people's ideal PM, but she would never have lied and would never have tolerated rule-breaking by her staff. The old school Conservatives were a totally different breed to this bunch of reprobates.

Many boomers actually like this government and bojo.
My FIL said so what if he had parties? He works there and everyone was together anyway and just staying on for most of it so what’s the problem. Everyone is making far much fuss about it, he said.
He also thinks it’s jolly good that they are doing something about immigrants. He doesn’t want a single one here. He says thinly veiled racist remarks about how the town looks different these days and what’s it all coming to.
My blood boils sometimes.
But these are the people voting him in!

EvilPea · 16/06/2022 17:21

my logical head can see the sense in that argument, if your mixing anyway. But he didn’t allow that common sense approach for others, that wasn’t the choice he allowed others to make.
that wasn’t the rules he set.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/06/2022 18:07

I’m a Boomer and l started this thread. Stop clumping us all together. I know NO ONE in my age group amongs friends, colleagues and family who voted Conservative.

lm appalled by this government, just appalled and yet I’m a ‘Boomer’[ hmm]. Born in 63 so right at the end. Don’t have anything in common with my elders in my demographic. And this is important. The ‘Boomers’ were a big group. The early ones into peace and love, the younger ones into Punk and Nee Romantics. The two ends are miles apart.

Oh yes totally- if you are setting these kind of rules for people you yourself need to be above reproach.

Both my parents and inlaws seem to weirdly stick up for him and the whole tory party, making excuses for them like they are some sort of obligated family member or one of their rouge children. It’s absolutely bizarre.

Yes that’s why I said many, not all. The statistic facts don’t lie. It was the ‘boomer’ age group who mainly voted this party in and also voted for Brexit.

Blossomtoes · 16/06/2022 18:08

I think he’s lost a lot of the boomer vote @Silverswirl. Particularly those who didn’t see their grandchildren/elderly parents for weeks on end. And those who were bereaved. He’s definitely lost my bloke’s vote and he’s a lifelong Tory. It’s actually quite amusing watching him swither about who he’d vote for in a GE.

Well said. I think I just about count as a Boomer, and my husband certainly does, and neither of us has ever voted Tory, nor are we ever likely to.

We can only hope! Although there needs to be a credible alternative, although judging from this thread anyone else would do!

Blossomtoes · 16/06/2022 18:16

They certainly would for me. I actually wish there was a box marked Anything but Tory!

lazarusb · 16/06/2022 18:30

I've recently inherited quite a few bayonets. Some pre first world war too 😂

the80sweregreat · 16/06/2022 18:42

They have got it right, but it's only on this forum (and sometimes on Twitter) that I see any real criticism of this government. Colleagues, friends , family , my own dh etc all think it's fine.
I know lots of people who are happy with things.
If this were a Labour government, they would want them out because they were failing.

Blossomtoes · 16/06/2022 18:45

Interesting @the80sweregreat. I don’t know anyone personally who’s happy with them or would vote for them.

LizzieSiddal · 16/06/2022 19:01

Unfortunately most of my neighbours support Johnson. I have to keep myself sane by refusing to talk about politics with any of them.

the80sweregreat · 16/06/2022 19:07

I'm surrounded by conservatives ..
I only know a few people who are not keen.
Not necessarily older folk either.
I do live in a tory stronghold though. It was nice to have a chat to an older retired gent on the train last week who agreed that Boris Johnson is a liar.
