And how old are you? I do, and have loads of CDs, many from my youth, that icant bring myself to part with. I know i could listen to the same music online, but I feel like I'd forget if didn't see the actual CD, abd that they're a big part of my history/life.

Yes…and a VCR! I’m early 50s

Daftasabroom · 04/06/2022 14:52

Musical Fidelity x-ray

VoleClock · 04/06/2022 15:09

Yes, mid 60s, play music most days and still buying CDs. I like listening to whole albums, even if I don't like every track. I don't listen to much from my youth - I don't want any of that poseur existential angst stuff any more!

Lonelycrab · 04/06/2022 15:11

No but I do have a lovely set of floor standing Tannoys and a Nad amp, hooked up to my Mac for streaming. Mostly YouTube these days.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 04/06/2022 15:12

Yes. And a turntable, large vinyl collection, expensive speakers etc.

I like music and I like listening to it in hi fidelity. I too love whole albums, made back when tracklisting mattered.

Mid 50s.

MolliciousIntent · 04/06/2022 15:12

Yes, and a record player. I'm 29. We still buy vinyl and CDs.

DramaAlpaca · 04/06/2022 15:25

Yes. A stereo and a CD player with a tape deck (!). I'm late 50s. I still have all my music cassettes in the attic. I've a VCR somewhere too.

ParadiseLaundry · 04/06/2022 15:45

We've just purchased an early 90s stacking system with CD player along with a few cds (mostly 90s/00s ones from charity shops) as we missed the experience of putting cds after being reliant on Alexa/Spotify for a few years.

I'm 39.

Cherrysoup · 04/06/2022 15:49

It’s on the kitchen table. My Dh is selling all of his old cassettes, it’s crazy how much they’re going for!

purplecorkheart · 04/06/2022 15:50

I am 38. I have two cd players. One I bought with my first babysitting money (admitedly I was looking after someone firstborn and they gave me crazy money). The other one is a really fancy at the time one that my Dad bought at a charity auction and gave to me. Both having been sitting in the attic for 15 years plus.

DahliaMacNamara · 04/06/2022 15:53

Yup - amplifier, turntable and CD player. Nice speakers on proper stands. We got rid of the cassette player some years ago, which I'm slightly regretting now.
Mid 50s.

LunaLoveFood · 04/06/2022 15:55

Nope. We do have an amplifier connected to an Alexa and wireless speakers, but with amazon music there's no need for cds.

user375242 · 04/06/2022 15:57

My 50 year old partner wants to keep our record player and replace our cd/tape/hi fi system for a new one.... I want to replace the record player to one that is Bluetooth compatible, get new Bluetooth speakers in every room of the house, instead of replace the hi-fi system. It is an ongoing contentious issue. He hasn't used the hifi in years, but he says this is because I won't let him keep his entire CD collection in the living room. Truth is he does have many CD's in the living room which he never touches, but it would be impossible to store his hundreds and hundreds of CD's. They are all in stacks of boxes in the basement wasting space. Also we don't even listen to music in the living room very often, more in the bedroom and kitchen, hence me wanting better speakers in each room and outside instead of one place.

We do have a huge record collection and I don't mind that as we have good storage for them, and I keep some on display that I change regularly. CD's take up too much room and need to die a death like DVD's. I'm mid 30's.

magicstar1 · 04/06/2022 15:59

Yes, a 5 disc CD changer with tape decks. Also a separate record player. I have a tape deck in one car so use tapes a lot. I still love the crackles and pops on old vinyl

GoodVibesHere · 04/06/2022 17:46

No I am mid 40's and have slowly got rid of all our CDs. Just don't need them with spotify etc.

motogirl · 04/06/2022 17:51

Yes listening to it currently, late 40's. Not everything I have on cd is available on Spotify. I even have tapes

SpikeGilesSandwich · 04/06/2022 17:58

Yes, we do. Love my cds. I have bitten the bullet recently and got rid of my tapes though. I'm almost 40. I know a lot of people who have regretted getting rid of their cds.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 04/06/2022 21:08

Nope. Still got a proper old boom box though. Car has a 6 CD changer and it's relatively new! I never had the money to buy CDs as a youngster and by the time I did earn enough, they were on the way out. Spotify and Alexa now, for me. I'm almost 40.

MiaGain · 04/06/2022 21:18

Yes. It has pride of place in our living room instead of a TV. It's DH's pride and joy and he will not be parted from it. (I hate it and have vowed to take it straight to the tip if he suddenly disappears mysteriously ....... 😱).

I wouldn't mind so much, but he rarely listens to it ....... so just why?

KangarooKenny · 04/06/2022 21:20

I have a turntable and collect vinyl.
Id love to have a CD player in my car, I miss one.

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 04/06/2022 21:21

We have a CD player....but we also have a tape player! Use it to play story tapes for my DD (retro ones from my childhood I bought on eBay). I'm 37 BTW.

Throwawaytoday · 04/06/2022 21:23

We have an early 1980's Technics turn table with cassette player that DH saved when his parents were throwing it out - we don't use the cassette bit, but we do listen to records.

And DD(5) has a CD player in her bedroom, that I sometimes steal to listen to 1990's indie CDs.

We're early 40's.

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 04/06/2022 21:28

Yes, it doesn't switch on any more. But I have many cds and I cannot admit defeat so I will very occasionally try it again...in desperation I will sometimes play cds on my pc
I do not have a dvd player but DO have one wall of dvds.

I'm not brave enough to go one way or the other and books are the same, I read them on tablet now but cannot get rid of my bookshelf as it goes all the way up my stairs and has been part of my home since I first got my own home

It is more than just moving with the times it's a whole host of changes I'm not ready for

Margo1983 · 04/06/2022 21:42

I do still own a cd player, though dont use it much now because of youtube, used to love buying CD's back in the 90s

CC1991 · 04/06/2022 21:44

I have a stereo bought in 2014 which includes CD, USB, AUX and radio. The function I use the most is the radio, and even then I normally only switch it on at weekends.

My parents still have their stereo from 2003 which, unsurprisingly, has a tape deck instead of a USB slot.
