what happened to sunroofs?

Cars don't seem to have them now - do they

they used to be all the rage

or am I just out of touch?

Air conditioning made them redundant.

Mine has one.

My 3 year old car has both AC and sunroof

The older ones used to leak and were easy to break into. Not sure why the newer cars don't have them.

my old astra from 2004ish had a sun roof - it never leaked

I had a sunroof years ago. It got a leak and was a massive pain in the arse. I don't care to ever have another one.

It’s called a panoramic roof these days and usually on the top spec models only. My car has one that opens in two sections front and then section 2 opens for the dc in the back.

Car also has A/C front and rear so it’s not one or the other.

I had a ‘pan’ roof in my last car, but I find them a pain. Ok if you are trundling along at low speed , but on the open road, where I do most of my driving, the wind noise outweighs any fresh air benefit. I did like the light it let in though.
Better with a convertible.
Plus they are bad for your mpg.

My new car when it eventually arrives (currently month 6) has a sunroof - I'm hoping it arrives this side of summer

I bought a new car last year and really wanted a sunroof. I ended up adding one to the spec and it cost an extra £1000 (wahhh) but I love it and I'm so glad I got it. Makes the interior look light and airy

Our current car has a 'panoramic sunroof' so a glass roof basically, it doesn't open.

Our new car will have a panoramic sunroof, and the front part opens.

I'd happily not have one, but we wanted the other features that come with the higher spec version of the car we have ordered.

Iv just bought a car (waiting for it to arrive) and it has a sunroof! It was a big selling point for me actually

It was the top spec model to be fair, but it made such a difference to the car. I love it

My last cat was a 67 plate and had both air con and an electric sunroof.

DH’s new car has a panoramic sunroof, he seems to forget that I have an eye condition that makes me very sensitive to light so it’s never open

I used to have a car with a sun roof. For the approximately two days a year it was used, it really wasn't much of a feature!

Loved the sunroof on my jazz. Dont have one now and really miss it. I never use air conditioning as I prefer fresh air.

My car is a year old and has a sunroof or panoramic roof. I never open the actual glass bit, however it’s nice to open the cover so the sun shines through. But not on a boiling hot day.

They don’t come included as standard anymore because of air conditioning. However, lots of manufacturers can still put them into a new car as a special order- my exH gets a new company car every 2- 3 years and always pays extra and waits longer to get a sunroof.

I was out with my friend in her very cute fiat 500.
Very sunny. I flipped the sun visor down but I was still too covered in sunshine.
Anyway she pulled the screen over the sunroof and I felt much better.

We bought a top of the line car and it came with dual sun roofs/moon roof things. Couldn’t get it without. I don’t really use them, but they are there. I just wanted all the tech safety features that came in the model

Mine has a panoramic sunroof but it doesn't open - combined with leather interior on a hot day & it's about as much use as a chocolate teapot! I use it more in winter to let more light into the car.

I'm so old I remember my Peugeot 309 with the winding sunroof! Sunny days with it & the windows open blasting Gina G, Whigfield & Steps with my friends packed in on day trips to the beach
