Cars don't seem to have them now - do they

they used to be all the rage

or am I just out of touch?

I insist on them. Means I generally have to buy new/demonstrator models but I then keep them until they die.

My Mercedes has both a sunroof and air conditioning. It’s a 68 plate. It was part of the vehicle specification I ordered.

Plantstrees · 04/06/2022 17:17

I have a full size one that opens but don't use it very often as I also have air con.

Coastalcreeksider · 04/06/2022 17:18

I had two Renault Clios with sunroofs, the pop up ones. They both leaked once they got to about 10 years old.

Latest car has air con but is not a Renault.

My dad used to get awful sunburn every summer but it didn't put him off them.

IloveJudgeJudy · 04/06/2022 17:25

I had a sunroof years ago on my Fiesta XR2. That car was stolen 😭. I lost loads of money so bought cheap cars from then.

Three years ago DS2 had a new car with a sunroof. I'd forgotten how much fun they are! Two years ago I got a new car and decided I needed a sunroof. I was lucky that there was an automatic with a sunroof waiting for me (DS2 had to order his and it took months).

I use mine as much as I can.

Interestingly I note that on the new Audi Q3 there is only the option of a panoramic sunroof for the very highest spec car. Yet the same Audi in the US has it as standard on even the lowest spec car. As well as other things which are (very expensive) optional extras in the U.K.

KittenKong · 04/06/2022 17:31

Thank goodness - many a year of burned knees on the back of the car as kids! However - the fun of sticking your head out the roof!

Goonerz · 04/06/2022 17:33

I have a panoramic sunroof on my bike

My first car was a Renault Clio with a leaky sunroof! Not ideal in England. Boy, I loved that car and cried like someone had died when I traded him in. RIP Barney.

Zazdar · 04/06/2022 17:41

My previous car had a panoramic roof where the front opened and I used it a lot. My current car has a solid metal roof.

My next car will have an opening roof. I prefer fresh air to air conditioning unless it is very humid.

transformandriseup · 04/06/2022 17:42

Our car is not very old and has one I often forget it's there.

ClinkeyMonkey · 04/06/2022 17:47

I had a Clio with a leaky sunroof too🤣 I used to rush out with a plastic bin bag every time it rained. It was usually the driver's seat that got it. And sometimes it rained and no water got in. Our driveway is a slope, so I think it may have depended whereabouts on the slope I parked!

Alarchbach · 04/06/2022 18:39

I have a 5 week old car and it has a panoramic sunroof that opens.

GoldenEclipse · 04/06/2022 18:45

HighSea · 04/06/2022 14:01

It’s called a panoramic roof these days and usually on the top spec models only. My car has one that opens in two sections front and then section 2 opens for the dc in the back.

Same here. It’s great.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 04/06/2022 18:49

I rarely even open the windows so I can't think why I'd want a sunroof.
So long as I have air con I'm fine.
The only thing I want on my next car that I don't currently have is a heated steering wheel.

Improved light levels in the cabin.

Star gazing.

Because it uses a lot less fuel than using the air-con does.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 04/06/2022 18:56

I also use it to get more height when taking scenic photos.

Nat6999 · 04/06/2022 19:07

I had a sunroof on my Freelander, I loved it in summer.

Billandben444 · 04/06/2022 19:12

My 17-plate Fiesta ecoboost has a panoramic sunroof (I chased it down!). It also has AC. I love having the roof open on sunny winter days with the heater on, I also love having the roof open in the summer and getting a burnt nose.

They are all in hell where they belong!! 🔥

If you’ve ever had a leaky sunroof that fills your car footwells with water you’ll feel the same!!
