What to do in Nottingham for a few hours?

I've got a few hours to spend in Nottingham next week, up to lunchtime.

I'm interested in history & art. Any suggestions about what I could see/do?

Avoid the castle, it's rubbish! The caves tours are good fun. There is a contemporary art gallery if that's your thing.

Cottagepieandpeas · 04/06/2022 13:50

Thank you! I'll avoid the castle then Grin
May well check out the gallery.

Definately pop to the Contemporary. Nice food too.

Dinnertime22 · 04/06/2022 15:17

Although the Galleries of Justice do a good tour.

Go here for excellent coffee and cake.

i can’t remember the name but we went to a pub where the door to the loos was hidden in a fake bookshelf. I quite liked it in there but don’t go if you are desperate for the loo

Useyourfork · 04/06/2022 15:23

Galleries of justice, followed by something to eat in the lace market area. 😊

It's the Pit and Pendulum, great pub if you like rock music

No I don’t think that was the name, i think it was straight onto the street not down an alley, it was a big pub but lots of nooks and crannies rather than a big area

The arts centre at Nottingham Uni often has good art shows on. We saw a touring Lowry exhibition there a few years ago.

Don't do what we did with some time to kill before our train... It was raining, we saw a tram going to phoenix Park so jumped on thinking a couple of hours in the park would be pleasant. It was a fucking CAR PARK!!!

Another recommendation for Galleries of Justice museum and the pub with the canal boat inside it (can't remember name sorry!)

PuppyMonkey · 04/06/2022 17:36

You can get a joint ticket for Galleries of Justice and the Caves of Nottingham - Industrial Museum is out at Wollaton Park, a ten minute drive away. But Wollaton Hall is worth a look if you have the time and inclination!

Joint ticket

I love the castle - to be fair, it's expensive but I always enjoy visiting. There's another thread from a few weeks ago about what to do in Nottingham. Have a search.

Wor · 04/06/2022 18:35

The cave tour is great, especially if you like history.

The ‘castle’ is rubbish. Is basically a site where a castle used to be, plus a sandwich shop.

Depends what time it is, definitely the caves or the galleries of justice are worth a visit. Trip to Jerusalem is a good pub to visit for the history and go upstairs and see the infamous ship!
Uni campus is good but it's a
Trip on the tram, they have lakeside and djanogoly centres all near the tram stop on university boulevard.
Loads of other things but those are the closest things.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/06/2022 18:54

Deffo avoid the castle. It's expensive and not great. There is a Pugin cathedral if you are into that sort of thing.

GrinGrin I almost did the same thing when I first moved to Nottingham!

CameraCoffeeCrochet · 04/06/2022 18:55

There's a cat cafe if you like that sort of thing
