My nose pweicing has developed a lump! Help!

Anyone have any experience on how to get rid?
It was peirced 4 weeks ago. Initially I thought it was infected so I went to the pericing shop and they told me to use surgical spirt which I've been using for a week and the redness has gone and def no infection but there is a lump. It looks like a bloody/tissue lump. Not sure why to do about it as it's not improving!
I've heard to use hemeroid cream on it 🤷🏼‍♀️
Anyone have any advise or experience?

Sea salt soak 2-3 times a day worked for me. Took a couple of weeks.

Realitea · 03/06/2022 20:21

What did they pierce with? Hopefully surgical steel and a hoop to allow for swelling?
Could be a granuloma - you might need to take the piercing out of it doesn’t go after a week.
Is the skin warm and red around it?

ThreeRingCircus · 03/06/2022 20:23

Agree with sea salt soak and other than that, leaving it the hell alone. Warm salt water on a piece of clean gauze or muslin held over the area for a few minutes. Do that twice a day and try to not touch it or get it caught on any clothing other than that. When it's come down a bit you can just put salt water in a spray bottle and spritz that on once a day.

Noooo I really don't want to take it out 🙈
It's not red at all... it was last week but it's totally settled down now just this lump around it!

What's happening is that the lump bug keeps getting a scab which is forming on the piercing which is then becoming dislodged when I'm cleaning it and most likely causing it more distress!

Could it be a keloid?

ALT1975 · 03/06/2022 20:30

I had the exact same thing and after trying salted water and tea tree oil (separately!) I saw these disks online. They sorted my bump right out!

I couldn't undo my piercing so I had to snip one side of the disk to be able to slip it onto the bump to surround the jewellery post (so it sat between the bump and the piercing jewellery 'top')

I used to wear them overnight and change them every night

SausagePourHomme · 03/06/2022 20:31

it sounds like a keloid scar - you need to go to the dr and maybe be referred to a dermatologist.

Bloomingdelightful · 03/06/2022 20:34

Make a paste of salt and water and cover the piercing in it as often as you can. DDs disappeared in about a week

TeaStory · 03/06/2022 20:34

It’s called an irritation bump and they are very common on cartilage piercings. Leave it alone, you might be over cleaning. Ask your piercer to check the fit of the jewellery.

I bet half my house it’s not a keloid - if you were prone to those you’d know by now.

Well when I got it checked by the peircing person she wasn't concerned about it at all and said it will eventually go so I'm not at the point where I feel I need to go to a GP about it I don't think.
I did accidentally knock the stud out twice and that's when it became an issue.
I'm deeply hoping it's not a keloid scar. I did get a bump behind my ear when I had that peirced when i was 16 but I definitely didn't follow aftercare with that so in hindsight I'm not suprised!

Nearly every one of my friends who had a nose piercing had the bump, they all settled in time. It’s one of things putting me off getting mine!

FloweryCurtainTwitcher · 03/06/2022 20:46

are you black? keloids are more common if of black heritage?

No I'm not!
I don't even really know what a keloid is to know whether it is one or not 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ahh yes I thought they were really common too. Tbh it's not even that noticeable but obvious I know it's there so it might aswell be the size of my nose 🙈

Second the silicon discs- brilliant things! If you have a labret in it you can just unscrew the ball (with sanitised hands) pop one on and refit the ball, they work on pressure, I had external and internal bumps on my nose and ended up with one each end of the labret for 6 weeks but it’s now prefect 🙂

Yes, it was a while ago so i cant remember the ratio of salt to water but if you Google "sea salt soak piercing" instructions come up.

Basically make up a solution of salt and water then soak the piercing in that for 5-10 min (either directly or using a clean piece of kitchen towel to soak up the solution then put that on the piercing).

Try not to touch it apart from cleaning a couple of times a day, you'll likely irritate it further if you fiddle with it.

I got a lump/growth on my tragus piercing and was advised to make a paste with aspirin and water. It cleared fairly quickly.

blueirises · 03/06/2022 22:33

You need chamomile teabags! Put bag in cup, fill with boiling water, leave to steep for 5 mins. Apply bag to lump and hold it there for as long as you can stand. Keep putting it back till it cools down. Do this twice a day and the lump (far more likely a granuloma than a keloid) should go in a week. Get Twinings or something good - I tried Asda cheapies and they didn't work.

It might come back - mine did a few times till it had healed - so just repeat the chamomile thing again.

ImAvingOops · 03/06/2022 22:33

When I had my tragus done, the piercer said not to clean with salt water because you can get salt crystals stuck in the piercing as the water dries, which is an irritant. She said to just use cooled boiled water.

CornishTiger · 03/06/2022 22:38

Do you have yellow discharge. It’s lymph drainage. You need to trick the skin into healing.

Aspirin - make a paste by crushing tablet and adding cooled boiled water. 4 days on -apply at night. Then 4 days off. Repeat as necessary.

Prontonlind cleaning spray twice a week.

nothing else!

mine was looking awful. The aspirin worked quickly.

CornishTiger · 03/06/2022 22:39

Not impressed with the surgical spirit advice from piercer!

NotSoFlatStanley · 03/06/2022 22:40

Agree with @blueirises - camomile teabag compresses we’re advised by the piercing studio we use when my DD’s piercing developed a bump - and no messing or touching!
