Royal kids not wearing hats or sunglasses

So on the carriage trip, Katherine and Camilla wearing big hats and the 3 kids squinting uncomfortably in the sun. No sunglasses allowed or hats. Seems cruel to me. Along with the expectation that they have to shake hand with strangers when the rest of the country are teaching their kids they don’t have to hug family goodbye if they don’t want to to teach bodily independence. Used to be pro royalty, definitely not these days.

It really has put all that duke of York business into perspective

I'm in Oz and lately it's been very cold (well cold by Australian standards). Yesterday I saw two parents who were rugged up looking warm but they had dressed their little girl who wouldn't have been much older than 1 in shorts and a t-shirt and no shoes not even socks! That to me is far worse than a few kids not wearing a hat or sunglasses while out in the sun for 10 minutes or so.

What a ridiculous thread. A total non-issue.

They were outside for 10 minutes max and it wasn't exactly hot.

This is the advice from skin cancer website:
Why hats are a must
Basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas account for about 90 percent of all skin cancers, and often appear on the head and neck. Hats help safeguard your face, scalp and neck.

The sun in early June in the UK is not going to cause problems for 3 children - with hair on their heads - sat outside for 10-15 minutes Confused.

If they were bald and / or sat on the beach in Sydney for a few hours, you'd have a point.

my 18 yr old bought herself some sunglasses the other day......think that is probably the first pair she has ever had. Then again my 24 and 22 yr old never had them either. They had hats that hey spent most their time refusing to wear or loosing as I recall. A miracle really that they all seem to have survived and truned into healthy lovely competent adults.....how odd!

@mrsfoof that post is more to do with posters who can’t see the need for hats for children at all. I wouldn’t have worried about hats for that short time outside (as I posted earlier) but if we had been in the crowds and it was sunny then we would all have had hats on.

I saw the damage that skin cancer causes to my DF. He ended up having to wear a hat outside all the time (regardless of how sunny it was)

Those not protecting their children’s skin now (some posters saying they don’t bother with sun cream never mind a hat) maybe storing up trouble for their children’s skin later in life

As another poster said, it's a formal occasion for a short period of time.

Similar to your child being a bridesmaid/pageboy and you insisting they wear sunglasses and hats whilst outside approaching the church or having the photos taken.
