Royal kids not wearing hats or sunglasses

So on the carriage trip, Katherine and Camilla wearing big hats and the 3 kids squinting uncomfortably in the sun. No sunglasses allowed or hats. Seems cruel to me. Along with the expectation that they have to shake hand with strangers when the rest of the country are teaching their kids they don’t have to hug family goodbye if they don’t want to to teach bodily independence. Used to be pro royalty, definitely not these days.

Give over. I took my niece to a country park today. No hat and no sun glasses. The same as 99% of the other children there. Find something more worth6 of your time and energy to get offended about….

"Cruel" - seriously ?

If you want to help kids where they are the victims of cruelty, or even neglect, how about setting up a standing order to the NSPCC, or volunteering to support children in hostels where they have so little, or refugee children, or so many other charities.

Get some perspective please.

Exactly this tbh.

Shake hands- it’s a normal thing to do. You do know the Royals probably shake thousands of people hands every year?

Bodily independence- never heard of such woke codswallap in my life.
Bog off you bore, let others celebrate.

toomuchlaundry · 02/06/2022 20:05

Didn’t Australia have the campaign slip slop slap to reduce skin cancer, where the slap relates to putting on a hat

JanePanface · 02/06/2022 20:07

OP you do realise that not that long ago, an obsession with hats and suncream and sunglasses for children wasn't a thing, don't you? Unless you live in Australia, in which case they're probably sensible.

SparkyBlue · 02/06/2022 20:10

My children never wear sun hats or sunglasses. I bought fancy baby banz (I think they are called) and they were never worn. Actually even in the depth of winter mine won't wear hats .

fyn · 02/06/2022 20:11

@ChimChimeny all sunglasses sold in the UK must block between 99-100% or UV so whether you bought them from primark or a fancy shop they’ll be providing protection.

bluesky45 · 02/06/2022 20:11

My kids wear sunglasses at the slightest hint of heat or sun, they think they look so cool (4 and 3 years old). So they wore sunglasses all day today and I left mine at home and regretted it!
They rarely wear hats unless it's sweltering, they don't like them much. Bit of suncream (if I remember, had to ask a lovely family at the fair we were at today if they had any spare as we forgot!) And they are fine.
I'm sure the Cambridge kids are the same. Covered in suncream and not out all day and they're fine.

bettbburg · 02/06/2022 20:12

How do you know they weren't allowed to wear them ? Maybe they didn't want to.

Triffid1 · 02/06/2022 20:12

My main takeaway from this is that you think hand shaking is the same as hugging and that people shouldn't have to shake hands because of bodily autonomy?

Frankly, we should be teaching our children much better manners. It's one thing to say you don't want to be hugged. But basic social skills like shaking hands seems pretty important to me. It annoys me endlessly that we seem to think children should just be encouraged to be children with little to no responsibilities and then you get the posters who are surprised when their 18 year olds can't do basic things.

HipposHaveNipples · 02/06/2022 20:14

There's children in this country living in poverty, suffering from abuse and/or neglect, living with alcoholic/drug addict parents, living in care, suffering with disabilities/mental health issues and acting as young carers. Despite all this, you've chosen to direct your concern at three of the most privileged children in the country. Get some perspective FFS.

toomuchlaundry · 02/06/2022 20:14

This is the advice from skin cancer website:
Why hats are a must
Basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas account for about 90 percent of all skin cancers, and often appear on the head and neck. Hats help safeguard your face, scalp and neck.

at no point we’re either required

Womencanlift · 02/06/2022 20:25

I think the OP has caught the sun today

Either that or they have been drinking some Jubilee champagne all day. Most batshit thread for a while

MiaGain · 02/06/2022 20:27

Good grief OP .... please find something important to get upset about.

RewildingAmbridge · 02/06/2022 20:28

It's been 16 degrees with sun/cloud they were outside for about 15/20 minutes. I don't think the adults were wearing hats for sun protection!
