I mean WTF?

Radio 2 listeners were polled and chose this old song (now associated with football and irresponsible gambling advertising on TV) as the song we're all supposed to sing to Elizabeth on her jubilee?

I should have put this in AIBU. AIBU to not be able to get my head round it? I find it embarrassing actually.

When are we meant to sing it?

Of all the songs that could have been picked, was there a shortlist to choose from? it really should have been a Queen song, not only because of the name and being a British band but so many are fitting, Killer Queen, don’t stop me now (everyone knows the words), One Vision, Friends will be Friends, to name a few, not sure about who wants to live forever though.

Well it would be a strange choice if the poll was over the whole of the nation but for a poll of radio two listeners for a song they all know and can sing along to, it's not so weird .

I find the fact that the song itself became so popular as an 'anthem' to be sung at so many sporting events and karaoke nights out rather odd - why it became so popular in the first place . But now that it is, in my mind it's a happy song sung by people who are out having a good time - so yes can see why it's a popular choice for a group singalong .

It's a terrible song for any occasion. What were the others on the shortlist? Does the jubilee need a them tune?
