I think it’s human behaviour to judge when others wear or do something we don’t like. It doesn’t mean we’re taking it to the next level. Am I not allowed to dislike certain kinds of clothes? And at what point does my dislike become a judgment of the person wearing it?

I don't know, but the Style and Beauty board seems to have such strong opinions about what's in/out/dated/soooo last season that i often feel insecure about my clothing choices because of it

There's a lady on tiktok who does skits on plus size clothing designs - her username is something like chubbymermsid

"What plus size women really want are t-shirts with random phrases on them, like "be true" maybe with a glittery butterfly?"

chirpychirpycheepcheepy · 31/05/2022 09:37

Next do a slouchy long line t shirt that fits this bill.

tootiredtobother · 31/05/2022 09:38

I went round the Westgate shopping centre in Oxford last night, I bought absolutely NOTHING and it was not because of the prices,
High neck T shirts.
Frills on dresses
Very little stock, ie. small sizes were out but god forbid you need 18 and upwards
no staff to ask for larger sizes..
fed up truly fed up
5ft 6 legs worst feature money to spend and I cant find anything
( did get a super dress from Aspia earlier this month thanks to a mention on Mumsnet)

TellingBone · 31/05/2022 09:38

Yes, cap sleeves on tee shirts can get in the sea. Pleased to hear that M&S have some with longer sleeves @amusedbush, but four inches above elbow is still quite short. I'm another that buys men's tee shirts just for the sleeves, but they're often narrow at the hip and too boxy.

I like elbow length sleeves but they're like hens' teeth.

Saw this thread and thought of this lady. Spot on!

sonjadog · 31/05/2022 09:43

I have an M&S t-shirt from about five years ago that has elbow-length sleeves, a lower neckline, covers my stomach and isn't so thin you can see through it. I treasure it carefully. Every year I hope that they will bring them back again.

MintyGreenDream · 31/05/2022 09:44

I found this.Its from Freeman's and goes up to a size 20.

Topseyt123 · 31/05/2022 09:47

I am plus size. I hate even the look of cold shoulder tops. To try and wear one would irritate the hell out me. I'd constantly be trying to pull the drop shoulder bit up properly. I don't want short t-shirts or crop tops either for similar reasons (constantly wanting to pull them down.

I just want decent choices in nice looking, comfortable clothing. It must cover all of my worst bits, not expose them or ride up over them and let them flop out.

I find SimplyBe and M & S the best for me.

Not remotely religious - but AMEN.

I could have written this ….I literally have spent hours looking for plain V Neck TShirts which are long in length !

Beelezebub · 31/05/2022 09:50

I’m currently wearing a top with a pocket on one boob. Sometimes I put a screwed up tissue in that pocket. Then I end up looking a very peculiar shape.

this is fine when I’m at home and no one gives a shiny shit because they’re used to me, but I’ve had a few odd looks in the office….

Agree wholeheartedly on butterflies, foil, slogans, tops that are too short, stupid sleeves, high necks…..

Tiresome and lazy.

I’ll add trousers that NEVER fit because apparently every fat woman is an ‘apple’.

Me too. I've got several of those half sleeve t shirts that M&S used to do. Scoop neck, v neck, various colours, no patterns/prints/slogans, decent quality, wash well. If they ever bring them back I'll buy two of every colour.

Cap sleeves. CAP SLEEVES. 😫

FredaFox · 31/05/2022 09:56

40andlols · 31/05/2022 08:20

yes why don't they do tall AND large ranges? I saw a size 4 36" leg pair of jeans recently. surely women are more likely to be size 20 with 36" leg?

agree high round necks are awful, the boob pocket... why? maybe for us to keep a snack which we're obviously constantly eating. The slogans Hmm "This girl can".

The same reason you struggle to get short and plus size.
I'm 5ft1i rarely can get jeans or trousers the right length and as for the constant summer wardrobe of maxi dresses, they are ridiculously long on me

ValerieCupcake · 31/05/2022 09:58

What pisses me off is shirts with roll up sleeves and a tag and a button halfway up the sleeve to button it back. If I want to roll my sleeves up I bloody well will do.

katseyes7 · 31/05/2022 09:59

My friend and l were in a clothes shop a few years ago. She picked up what was an otherwise nice top, but it had cold shoulder cut outs.
Almost in synch, we both said "Oooh, that's a bit Liz McDonald...." and she put it back.
I don't 'get' them at all.

Oh, and this.
Why can't they just make longline, plain black, fitted, deep V neck tops. That's all I want. Not oversize, not with a pocket on the boob, not a high neck, not a short body cut, not bloody floral.
Plain. Black. Fitted. Covers my belly. Deep V neck.

Yes, please!!

MintyGreenDream · 31/05/2022 09:59

@TellingBone sorry! This any good?

😄Better effort.

I'm not plus size myself, just having a rant about sleeves.

SneezesHaveStarted · 31/05/2022 10:26

I don’t have strong opinions about cold shoulders. And I’m even ok with florals to an extent. But what gets me is the lack of shape!

I’m fed up to the back teeth of putting on a top that stops just below the waist line, which ends up cutting right across the belly rolls and making me look, as a pp said, like a giant square! And then it either has a stupid slogan on it, or it is covered in animal print (the one pattern I really can’t abide).

What I want is an A-line tunic type top that accentuates under the bust (without cutting my boobs in half), and then skims over my belly to finish mid-thigh so it covers my bum, without either clinging to my belly rolls, or hanging like a sack. With a flattering neck line.

I do actually like the one @BlueKaftan posted, but I suspect once you actually put it on a larger lady it would end up being far too short!

Notbeinfunnehbut · 31/05/2022 10:27

Thing is I mean obviously you want to be covered up sometimes and that’s a great every day top but other times I don’t

im in my 30s so I quite like lowcut tops and dresses done properly

I don’t get my legs out but I don’t want to always be covered head to toe either
