I don't wash anything. That's what an immune system is for.

LlamasSitOnPyjamas · 29/05/2022 00:03

No, but I only buy iceberg lettuce and peel the outer leaves off so assume the inner ones are protected? Never eat anything else unless visibly dirty. Never been I'll.

notaladyinred · 29/05/2022 00:05

I didn't used to bother with washing veg much, not to any thorough extent. But then then E. coli really hit a few years ago (albeit through rocket, IIRC?) and that is really nasty, even for healthy people. So now I do.

AllLopsided · 29/05/2022 00:14

I wash everything! Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, anything eaten raw - definitely! And most other fruit/veg too. Not onions though, that would be weird. If I'm making a dinner-sized salad for 2+ I use a salad spinner (I have a small one that doesn't take up too much space in the cupboard). If it's a few leaves to go in a sandwich I'll rinse, shake and dab with a tea towel/kitchen roll.

RoseMartha · 29/05/2022 00:17

Yes I rinse what I am using under the tap. Shake it don't dry it. Then repeat next time I cut more off another day.

BreadAndWater · 29/05/2022 00:18

What kind of lettuce are we talking about?

The replies on this thread are unintentionally hilarious (if you assume it's a euphemism)GrinGrinGrin

I'm actually crying with laughter 😂😂

I prefer a landing strip of lettuce in my sandwich and it's always washed and squeaky clean 😉

yesterdaytheycame · 29/05/2022 01:42

I'm 40, eat copious amounts of raw fruit and veg since age 22. Never once washed anything.

Use it or lose it!

Hawkins001 · 29/05/2022 01:45

I must admit, sometimes it's a mix with my lettuce

caringcarer · 29/05/2022 03:15

Wash it and dry in a lettuce spinner. The water fly's off. I would worry about slugs if not washed.

aramox1 · 29/05/2022 04:14

Always, and with a lovely centrifugal salad spinner. Lol at people propping the leaves up to dry
