How much are your gas and electric direct debits?

Just that really. Ours is going up to £250 per month.

We're a family of 4 in a 3 bed house. No idea how we can cut back any more.

Everything gets switched off when not in use. Showers instead of baths, tumble drier no longer being used.

Can you switch to variable DD so you only pay for what you use?

Sirzy · 28/05/2022 13:08

£147 a month at the moment and just in credit

Candlescushionsandthrows · 28/05/2022 13:09

Thanks @Sirzy can you give a bit more info please like how many of you live there please?

I'm trying to get an idea if we are paying more than other similar size families.

Went up from £115 to £170 for 4 in a 4 bed house. And to be honest could do more to cut down on usage.

Libertybear80 · 28/05/2022 13:11

£258.

dementedpixie · 28/05/2022 13:11

How much do you use compared to the direct debit amount? What sort of tariff is it?

RubyReigns · 28/05/2022 13:12

5 people 3 bed new build so energy efficient. Not using dryer, turning off everything when it’s not in use. I’ve just fixed at £177pm. That’s 20% over the current cap but should be cheaper by October than the cap.

Kiki105 · 28/05/2022 13:12

I managed to switch to a 2 year capped price just before the first hike in prices back in October and still only paying £89 a month for both G&E for a family of three in a 3 bed house. I feel very fortunate at the moment because I would not be able to afford these huge price increases as a single mum of 2.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/05/2022 13:13

Just gone up to £140 from £70. 1 adult and 1 child in a 2 bedroom semi.

dementedpixie · 28/05/2022 13:13

It's not the direct debit amount you should look at but the tariff and your usage. Direct debits may be set too high or too low compared to actual usage.

Last month we used £220 worth of gas/electricity. Monthly payment is £165 as we had a bit of credit on the account. Once I submit readings this month I'll be able to see if I need to increase my payment amount

Same here fixed until oct 2023 so paying £103 per month for both. Also single mum and would be struggling so much would have to pick up extra work shifts.

Louise0701 · 28/05/2022 13:15

We fixed in in February at £210. Family of 5 in a 5 bed 3 bath house

RichardsGear · 28/05/2022 13:19

£188 a month on SVR with Eon - 2 adults and 3 teens in a 3 bed house. Teenagers never stop charging devices, seem oblivious to off switches on televisions and lights 🙄and spend way too long in the shower.

cherrymax · 28/05/2022 13:21

2 adults WFH full time. Gone up recently from £80 to £120 per month. We use very little gas but lots of electric and need to cut down somehow.

TomAllenWife · 28/05/2022 13:25

Mine has gone from £104 to £198
That's for 3 of us in a 3 bed house

LargeLegoHaul · 28/05/2022 13:26

£250 for a family of 5 or 6 in 5 bed house.

SweetPetrichor · 28/05/2022 13:28

We have a variable DD so we pay what we use and it is roughly £150 per month, give or take. We are a 2 adult household in a 3 bedroom terraced house. We use the normal stuff - fridge, gas cooker, electric oven, daily dishwasher cycle, washing machine a few times a week. I work from home so there’s that adding usage. We have a snake enclosure which has heating requirements, etc.
Its not bad just now but I can see it rocketing up in winter when heating goes on.

RewildingAmbridge · 28/05/2022 13:30

£138 been on variable since April was on fixed before that, currently have £300 credit but the vining year will cost more than the last, we're using about £110-£120 a month at the moment not using tumble dryer or heating, turned off the beloved under floor heating in the bathroom. Our usage isn't especially low about 17-18 thousand kWh a year across both electric and gas which is above average. We live in an Edwardian 3 bed semi. 2 adults one DC but there's someone home in the day most days, grandparents if not us and we dint tell them to put an extra jumper on etc as they're already providing free childcare. We're with octopus

Toddlerteaplease · 28/05/2022 13:31

£75 and in a lot of credit. Single person in small modern house.

Basketet · 28/05/2022 13:32

£110 pm. In £300 credit. 3 bed semi, myself and two DC.

Heating was off 1 March.
2 loads laundry washed and tumbled 2x week.
Showers and baths kept to a minimum - 3x week.
All electrics off at wall.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/05/2022 13:32

Fortunately took out a two year fixed tariff last December.

Muminabun · 28/05/2022 13:33

Family of four detached 4 bed. £165 pm octopus energy. Gas and electric.

Burm · 28/05/2022 13:36

£291 for a family of four (2 adults and 2 teenage boys) 😩 But I also childmind 4 days per week. We leave way too many lights on, have 3 PCs on permanently, use the dishwasher twice a day, tumble dryer twice a week and do 5/6 loads of washing a week. No double glazing so house is freezing during winter and heating on a lot.

Zemw · 28/05/2022 13:37

Gas £65
Electricity £55

3 bed semi

EachandEveryone · 28/05/2022 13:38

Mines gone from £160 to £250 I don’t know what will happen. It’s a three bedroomed flat but old sash windows.
