Yes true, wasted time.

Just to point out the extra £150 for the disabled is to cover people on pip who are no longer eligible for the warm home discount scheme, which changed this year.

So anyone in receipt of pip will no longer be entitled to the warm home discount from 2022/23.

hi do you have any info about the 22/23 warm homes grant and new changes please

thanks

@saraclara 'we are not paying the fuel companies are'

But the windfall tax is £5bn and the investment is £15bn

I think supporting people through the crisis is right but I'm assuming the other £10bn is state funded?

That made me look back at the news source, and you're right. My bad.

Every household is getting £400.

Is this true no joke wow that going to help enormously but I still won’t believe untill money in bank.

XenoBitch · 27/05/2022 01:54

How will this work with people who pay their rent and bills combined to their landlord?

Nat6999 · 27/05/2022 01:55

Grotbag81 if you receive an income based benefit (ESA, JSA, Pension Credit, Universal Credit) as well as PIP, Attendance Allowance or DLA, you will still get the Warm Homes Discount, what is changing is that most people will get it automatically without claiming & only a few will have to wait for a letter & ring the dedicated phoneline to supply proof of their claim.

The £400 isn’t going into your bank, I believe. It comes off your gas and electric bill.

I understand if you are in on pip or dos the £150 is going into the bank.

Andromachehadabadday · 27/05/2022 04:53

The problem with that, is that often it’s some of the most vulnerable that don’t apply for these sorts of things.

and applications still take time and cost money to process.

I don't understand giving it across the board. Why on earth should low earning (or even middle income) tax payers be funding payments to people like my parents, whose greatest concern in life currently is avoiding inheritance tax?

Pensioners vote.

BigGreen · 27/05/2022 06:22

When are the announcements about a massive home insulation programme and new (renewable) energy projects coming? That's what we need on top. (Projects that can be ready in years not decades like the nuclear plans).

Wrongkindofovercoat · 27/05/2022 06:47

BP and Shell both received more money back from the UK government than they paid every year from 2015 to 2020 (except 2017, when Shell paid more than it received).

^ From a BBC article. Also saw mention somewhere else, that the windfall tax may be offset by tax incentives for investment.

It will come off your energy bill. People on pip will also get an extra £150 that will go to your bank so if you’re disabled your get that too.

List of qualifying benefits for the £600

Again unpaid carers remain invisible .

It was the tax incentives bit that confused me when listening yesterday.

the £400 comes off peoples energy bills so it will be the people paying the bill who get the benefit of it. I’d assume that those paying bills as part of rent to the landlord would negotiate a smaller rent raise next year to take into account that their landlord got a discount on energy bills.

Unpaid carers will get £400 as all households get this.

PIP claimants were never eligible for the warm home discount scheme just by claiming PIP as a stand alone benefit. They also have to be in receipt of a means tested benefit or on a low income qualifying them for the broader group help via their energy supplier. The government promised to include PIP and other non means tested disability benefits in the warm home discount scheme but reneged on it when the 54% rise in the price cap was announced.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 27/05/2022 07:50

@Sirzy I don't think anyone has got the details of what the tax incentives might entail yet ? Will be interesting to see, they must know what they are as they will have costed it all out before the announcement ? it will be one of the reasons why the energy companies are talking about 'investment' a lot.

MarshaBradyo · 27/05/2022 07:54

The incentive is for investment not sure what exact criteria is

But it’s slightly different to previous ideas of windfall tax as a new addition

I did read decommissioning won’t be an incentive

This is incorrect. PIP, attendance allowance and DLA have never been part of the warm home discount scheme as they are not means tested. You have to be on income based benefits (means tested) to qualify and you don’t need to be claiming PIP/DLA/AA in addition to qualify. As I said upthread somewhere, the government promised to include PIP, DLA and AA claimants in the warm home discount scheme as stand alone qualifying benefits but announced earlier this year that they had decided not to to so.

Still means they’re invisible because they’re not getting anything extra in recognition of unpaid caring duties which save the tax payer massive amounts of money.

Exactly, and most unpaid carers have had their workload increased even more over the last two years because other services have been shut and so much medical care has been delayed.

even at the 35 hours the government use as their figure £69 a week is shocking.

scorland and wales both did one off payments for carers has a recognition. Of course England didn’t care enough.

Disability rights UK seem to disagree with you there.

I used to process warm home discount claims when working for BG. Receiving Pip/DLA etc was definitely one of the questions
